Dear Salsera/os,
I’m looking for some quotes to include in a salsa article I am writing comparing social dancing with performing/choreographed dance.
The article will be published in the Latin Dance & Music page (http://www.thisbusinessofdanceandmusic.com/LatinDance.htm) of our international, arts, community website This Business of Dance and Music and should be good exposure for all involved. Our last salsa article on Toronto Salsa, published in 2003, continues to get 20 – 30 hits a day from around the world.
Participants should have several years experience in either dancing salsa socially in a club or performing in front of an audience
Below are some of the questions being passed around. If you'd like to comment on any or all, your input would be greatly appreciated.
**Please send your comments directly to my general email account: thisbusinessofdancemusic@yahoo.ca
1. What do you believe are the key elements for becoming a good salsa dancer and which do you think improves the dancer better: social dancing or performing/choreography? Why do you prefer one or the other more ? Why do you dislike one or the other more? (please use your own experience as an example)
2. Some argue that dancers who mainly reserve their dancing to performance or choreographed classes lack spontaneity and adaptability. However, some argue that dancers who mainly reserve their dancing to the social floor never learn any new moves and lack growth – and are often there for other reasons than salsa. (Please comment based on your own experience)
3. There are arguments on both sides that one or the other helps you feel the music and your connection with your partner better. (Please comment based on your own experience)
4. What is your favourite memory when social dancing? What is your favourite memory when performing?
5. When learning salsa, what was the most important thing to learn? What was the hardest thing to learn?
6. Why do you dance salsa? Why do you like it?
7. Where do you like to dance?
8. How would you like to be named in this article.
Again, please send your comments directly to my general email account: thisbusinessofdancemusic@yahoo.ca
Sincerely,
lyw
