View Full Version : Dancing With The Stars - Take 2
“Dancing With the Stars”, an ABC show, will return for an 8 week run beginning in January.
The series will fill in for “Alias,” which will be going on hiatus to accommodate Jennifer Garner’s maternity leave. She is expecting her first child with husband Ben Affleck later on this year.

According to ABC News "Dancing With the Stars" will premiere Thursday, January 5 at 8:00 p.m. (EST).
The best news IMO, is that they are adding a results show each week. ABC says the celebrities will be announced at a later date.

The way it is done in England is the competition happens in one show. Then an hour later there is another show that announces the results. So the results are based on that weekes performance... as opposed to the hybrid results we had last time.

Don't leave us all in suspense! Do we, in fact, get to see James Spader in a hot latin outfit?

Someone I know who is close to one of the dancers from the first series says that they are auditioning and deciding on the pool of pros now. How it worked last time was that they picked a pool of pros, and then matched pros to whichever Stars they actually ended up signing. We suspect that there will be some sort of announcement about the pros after the Ohio Star Ball. This is all third-hand information at this point, so I can't guarantee it's accuracy....

I think i like them both equally (despite the fact that they are both reality tv, ick) but ballroom bootcamp pulls ahead slightly because it doesn't have the idiot funniest home videos host. I hate that guy.:x
Rumor has it that NFL great Jerry Rice will be one of the celebrities for next season. Other possible celebrities include Robert Wagner, Lisa Rinna and Drew Lachey (Nick's younger brother).

He's paired with Anya Trebunskaya, and they've already started lessons. But I'm afraid he might be a disappointment because I heard that he told her at first that he only wanted to commit to one session per week! I hope that either the grapevine is wrong or that she beats some sense into him :-)
He only wants to do one session a week??!! Are you kidding me? What is the matter with him? What can he possibly expect to learn practicing only once a week, especially if he's starting out from scratch.
(...mumbling in disbelief as I drag my sorry self to the dance studio several times a week to practice, whether I want to or not...and I've been taking dance lessons for 4 years now...)

Temporary hijack. Did anybody see the preview for Take the Lead? I saw it when I was at the movies this past weekend. It reminded me of Dangerous Minds, to be honest. Antonio Banderas was ... well Antonio Banderas, which is always a very good thing. The preview looked kinda cheesy, though. Regardless, I will see the movie. I just hope it's a good one. :?

On the other hand, in the first season, John O'Hurley initially would only commit to a couple of hours of practice twice a week, and ended up wanting something like 6 hours a day, 6-7 days a week, so Rice may change his tune if the competitive fires and/or reality kick in.

Yeah...just wait until he gets hooked. Once he snaps, I'm sure he'll change his tune about how often he wants to dance. :P
Maybe reality will be what gets him, especially if he only survives the first week by the skin of his teeth. There's nothing like the fear of looking bad in front of an audience to motivate you. And think, this audience is millions and millions of tv viewers.

my first post ever:
Which approach to Dancing With The Stars is more difficult, dance pro or celebrity?
(If "I am a dance pro" equals A, and "I am a celebrity" equals B, then which of A implies B, B implies A, not A implies B, A implies not B, not B implies A, and B implies not A, not A implies not B, and not B implies not A, is true? Did I leave any possibilities out?) (As we all know, the contrapositive is true if the statement is true, so if A implies B is true, then not B implies not A is true.)
For those who have been featured on the show for one season, is this question a little more serious?
If you had your choice, which would you rather be, dance pro or celebrity?
Do the dance pros on the show want to become celebrities, or do they consider it a form of public service?
How has being on the show affected the lives of the dance pros?
Have any of the celebrities taken up dancing as a hobby?
Have you ever been on camera solo? What do you think of yourself, if you have? (What do you think of yourself if you haven't?) (I have been, and I haven't danced since. Does celebrity take one's mind off the more important things in life? Just kidding. I've danced since then.)
Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers rank in my pantheon of great personalities. What if there was a modern equivalent? Does anyone even merit mention? No one that I know of. I wish there was. That's the only thing I don't like about the show: dancing and celebrity seem to be uncharted modern territory and this makes me sad.
A good partner is one of the most exciting experiences known to mankind. Wouldn't you agree?

over at ABC.com, there is a confirmed list of the pros participating in Season 2. For me, it's just as interesting seeing who ISN'T there (champ and runner up) as it interesting for who IS....
Louis van Amstel
Edyta Sliwinska
Jonathan Roberts
Ashly DelGrosso
Max Chmerkovskiy
Andrea Hale
Nick Kosovich
Anna Trebunskaya
Tony Dovolani
Cheryl Burke
That's 10 dancers, 4 celebrities down...6 celebrities to go. Interesting to see who gets paired up with who...stay tuned!

More evidence that the producers agree... the show's theme music (at least during its premier season) was in latin/rhythm style.

If you had your choice, which would you rather be, dance pro or celebrity? Neither, at this point my only interest is social dancing, though I enjoy watching performances so much, I actually considering joining a performance group.
Do the dance pros on the show want to become celebrities, or do they consider it a form of public service? Probably a form of public service. Dancing, dance lessons, practicing, buying danceshoes, etc. seem to be thought of as dorky activities here in the U.S.
How has being on the show affected the lives of the dance pros? More people know who the dance pros are. At least its true for me. I'm learning (slowly) who the stars are in various dance styles.
Have you ever been on camera solo? No, but in partner work once. That 2 minutes is the only time I've ever seen myself as others see me.
What do you think of yourself, if you have? (What do you think of yourself if you haven't?) I could stand to lose a few pounds, though I danced well.
A good partner is one of the most exciting experiences known to mankind. Wouldn't you agree? For me, a good lead actually....

If this needs to be moved, my apologies in advance....:)
This is confirmed info. from the BBC....
There is going to be a Christmas Special of "Strictly Come Dancing" (Brit version of the show, and the originators of the concept) in which celebrities from the UK are set to face off against two of their American counterparts.
The show is set to go on Christmas Eve and the celebrities involved from the US are...
Rachel Hunter (dancing with Brendan Cole a UK pro on their series)
And perhaps the most interesting pairing will have Evander Holyfield teaming up with Karen Hardy, perhaps the single most decorated pro either series has ever had. Message to Evander....The minute you start training with her, you'll come to realize what a lot of us know already...
You may have had dynamite in your hands, but Karen Hardy is high powered explosive on 2 feet!
Only one question....
Do the good folks in North America get to see this show in addition to their UK counterparts? I for one would love to see it go down.
Cheers!
