bleh, don't like the athlete choice. if they must have a token athlete, i wish they could get someone from a non Bulky TestosteroneFest sport like tennis.

Now my comments...

Jerry Rice got the "manly man sports former pro great" slot
Robert Wagner got the "handsome older actor" slot
Drew Lachey got the "reality 'star' who owes ABC something slot
Lisa Rinna got the "famous daytime TV person" slot

Seems that if they got Drew Lachey they are still scraping the bottom of the celebrity barrel...I men really, a guy famous for being the brother of a guy who is famous for being married to some bimbo on a reality show that I heard either was or is going to be cancelled?

I know who some of the pros are, but since it's not public yet I'm keeping quiet. Or sort of quiet. Let's put it this way: it will not be the same slate of pros as last time. But it will be a good group, never fear.

Oooooohhhh, this is gonna be FUN! :) *LOL*

Jerry Rice= Season 2's Evander (let's hope he has just as much fun....)
Drew Lachey = an experienced stage dancer (can he out-dance Joey?)
Robert Wagner = My Mom's going NUTS over this possibility ...;) Won't out-dance the original Silver Fox...John O'Hurley, but if he does half as well, who knows? ;)
Lisa Rinna = I don't know....but instinct is telling me that she could be an ACTUAL threat for Season 2's title.

And the pairing possibilities....

1. As with Evander, put Jerry with Edyta. Both are strong, fast and can MOVE really well. Being a wide receiver, Rice wouldn't have issues with hip movement or lead feet. :)

2.) No contest. Pair Drew up with Ashly Delgrosso. Something tells me that these two would be "High Energy" personified.

3.) This one may surprise you, but I would love seeing Lisa Rinna with Louis Van Amstel. Wouldn't mind seeing him dance with someone who doesn't appear to be shackled by too much in the way of inhibitions.

4.) She did it in Season 1, can she pull it off one more time? And - can this pair top the performances she had with O'Hurley? I don't think ANYONE could do that...but it would be interesting to see if Charlotte can work her magic with Robert Wagner.

Actually, Nick Lachey is famous for being a member of 98 Degrees (one of the boybands that is from my hometown). ;)

Robert Wagner ought to be fun, but I have never heard of the other three. It is harder to root for complete strangers.

No fair Laura....you're peaking my interest WAY too much! *LOL*

*Thinks that she's been given directions to the candy store...but Laura got there first and is holding the key too! ;) *

Interesting choices. O'Hurley was by far the oldest competitor on Season 1 - but even Mr. Wagner has got to have at least 20 years on him. Much repect right off the bat just for throwing his hat in the ring. I hope he acquits himself well. Mom seems to think he will....and her instincts are usually on the money! ;)

According to The Internet Movie DataBase (http://www.imdb.com), Robert Wagner was born in 1930 and John O'Hurley was born in 1956. So Wagner is old enough to have been O'Hurley's father.

For fans of pro sports, Jerry Rice is considered one of the best professional football players ever. There will be more than a few men who will tune in just to see how he does on the show.

As an added note, Jerry Rice's football position (wide receiver) required him to be much leaner and more agile than Evander Holyfield as a boxer. I don't know if Rice's personality will match Holyfield's, but Rice should be a MUCH better dancer.

This may be the only time I can speak intelligently about football but I believe Jerry Rice was the other half of the quarterback Joe Montana on the San Francisco '49ers, in case anyone has heard of Mr. Montana.

And in case none of you have never paid attention to it, ex-football players usually bulk down after they retire. Those 300-lb behemoth linemen don't usually maintain that kind of weight since they don't need the bulk when their playing days are over. I'm sure Jerry Rice lost a few of the pounds he used to have to be able to take a pounding from safeties and linebackers.

I'd reclassify Drew Lachey as the "old school teeny bopper heartthrob who dropped off the face of the earth a decade ago" role. After all, he was in 98 Degrees with his brother.

So...we're just missing the "reality star" and the "model" spots, right?

Especially since my husband is a big bulky football player himself and isn't into the dance scene...it's nice to give him a reason to watch the show with me. I hope Jerry goes far so my hubby will get hooked on the show and a little more interested in dancing, what he considers, the "fairy" dance. (Ouch)

I heard that only select Pros from season One were asked back, and not all have accepted. Everyone else will be new.

Hmm, I wonder what criteria they used when deciding who to ask back? Any word on if they are sticking with the same judges?

Another possible contestant -- Saturday Night Live alum Kevin Nealon has told media that he is mulling an invitation to join the show (I guess he has done a celebrity poker show as well).

I don't know...perhaps skill in teaching actual dance technique to beginning adults?

wyllo
11-15-2005, 12:44 PM
That would probably be the best criteria, but I have a feeling it had more to do with which pros appealled most to the viewers (or even who the viewers loved to hate!)

I wonder if the football players had ballet training. I've heard that is common among football players (especially QBs) to develop balance, quickness and agility.

The soap opera queen's partner...Alex, er Alec...he did much in the sex appeal category. Sex sells and several of the dancers (men and women) made a strong statement that ballroom isn't your Grandma's activity any more.

wyllo
11-15-2005, 01:55 PM
Artem! :D

Charlotte Jorgensen definately. Louis Van Amstel minus the ego. I like Alex Mazo but wonder if he and Edyta want to take more time away from competition? Same goes for Jonathan Roberts -- although I'd love for his partner Anya Trebunskaya to join the show, the dance they did during the 'dance off' was fabulous! And if I remember correctly, she was slated to be in the first season but her celeb pulled out.

Yeah, I was a Dolphins/Marino/Marks Bros. fan back then, and I still haven't forgiven the 49ers for the 1984 Super Bowl. :x

But what Big10 and tacad wrote is true. Rice played a speed/agility position,
not a bulk-up position. He'll move a lot better than Evander.

Conan is too big a star for that show. They only take 3rd tier celebrities....Now, if you had said Jimmy Kimmel or Montel Williams....Or better yet, Arsenio Hall.

I'ts too bad he didn't have a trademark end zone dance he could work into his routines

He used to do cabbage patch moves in the end zone but not sure if it is his trademark. He'll probably go a long way because of his work ethic. Primetime neon Deion Sanders would probably more colorful.

Ok, I saw a commercial for season 2 last night -- I'm glad to see they are supporting it well in advance of its premiere! They showed some very quick clips, but the only professionals I remember from the commercial were Louis Van Amstel, Anna Trebunskaya and Jonathan Roberts. Is this a clue to who the pros will be? :)

Laura
11-27-2005, 02:22 AM
I heard a rumor that Louis wouldn't be back. I guess that remains to be seen, because I also heard a rumor that the pros would be announced around the time of the OSB and that didn't pan out as far as I can tell....
