somethings u find yourself doing and have been doing for a long while but it never caught on to your conscious mind that u prefer it like that or do it that way etc..
a recent one for me was that i found myself prefering to dance on2 when the music is slow and on1 when its fast and on3 when its full of percussion play.. lol
can anyone relate?.. any main related realizations for u recently..?

In my Syracuse rueda group (by the way we will be in Florida next November and we are aiming to win the amateur competition!!) they commented on my footwork. They keep on thinking that I am off, but I'm actually on time for moves but my feet do their dance with the music. It's my way of self expression while doing the moves that are called.

Heh Sagitta, I'm with you there! My feet do crazy things when the music tells them to. Taps, shuffles, slides. I can't help myself! I've got Spanish Harlem Orchestra on in the background right now and I'm typing in time!

Interesting concept, typing in time! Am trying it out now... :-? :D

I can understand that, there are some fantastic slow mambos and cha cha chas, not least of which is the famous "Guantanamero."
I've never danced on 3. Has anyone else on DF ever done that?

Totally with you there Sabor.
When it's fast music I dance LA style (usually Colombian music or some new york or puerto rican tracks that fit that style).
If the music is Cuban Timba or some Colombian tracks I'll dance fast Cuban style with lots of changes, body movement, reflection of the music and the odd trick move.
If it's medium/slow NY/PR track I dance NY style with a little body movement (usually on 1 because there aren't many dancers here who like and can dance well on 2, but there are a couple I dance on 2 with).
When it's slow Cuban music I'll dance On 1, Son/Cha Cha Cha on 2 Cuban style, close without many turns.
If it's a NY cha cha cha I'll dance that style.
Colombian style with colombian girls on 3 and sometimes with others if I think it fits the moment.
Basically whatever way I feel fits the music, the girl and my mood.
Vivre le difference, vivre le musique!
It's always been a conscious choice for me though.
Heaven help me when I develop my Miami style a bit more!
Too much choice.. hahaha.

realization: last week i realized how annoying a tap step on the 4 can be! it's when i'm dancing on2 and doing a lot of turns/spins/pivots, I use the 4th beat out of habit, usually to prep and keep me dancing on the balls of my feet when in jazz shoes
but it makes me tired more quickly, less flowing. it's a tough habit to break, and not great for when in heels

YUp. I have danced on3. Do so for some performances for my rueda group. my first salsasteps were on3... didn't know it was called that, ofcourse... i just thought i was doing THE ONE AND ONLY REAL AUTHENTIC salsa... hahaaha, even told some peeps that came dancing (LA, i think) at our club, they danced off time ..:o hahaaha
luckily i stepped out into the world... and discovered all sorts of styles, all salsa in their own right.
my recent realisation:
i musn't go after my salsa fix... coz then it doesn't come...
just go out dancing, have fun, and get the fix when it presents itself!!!:D

Well, I had a mini one last night......
For those of you who 'know' me, I am a huge fan of Cuban style, and most comfortable dancing it.
Except this one particular Cuban (who is fairly new in town). On previous occasions I've danced with him, I had trouble following...nerver knew why. He simply doesn't lead like the others.
Last night I had another chance to dance with him again. For some unknown reason I actually figured out why I found him difficult: his leads somehow indicate slot moves/placement, while he expected circular .....
I simply moved/traveled less, and waited a split second after his leads. It WORKED. We danced for most of the night & it was a blast :bouncy:!!
*on a separate note: another guy (who teaches) gave 'circular leads' while expecting slot moves/placements. When I end up elsewhere he yanks me to where he wanted me to be  ...... I just don't know how some people get away with these things*

realization: I'd much dance on1 if the lead is more comfortable with it - I was dancing with a guy from Joby Brava's group on2 last weekend, it was relatively ok, but some lead signals were off until I finally asked him to switch to on1. what a blast :) his personality and style just came out, I was watching the video today and I have to say I do like LA style depending on the lead -he stole the 'show' :)
(if only i could get it to capture to PC I'd show you guys :?:)
