AT is very much an exhibition dance in my area, it's not danced socially and since it's a "specialty" dance, it's not a dance that's often danced at studio parties either. I'm curious to know is that the case in other places?? If not, when/where do you dance AT??

Here in Florida it's very much danced socially. More so the futher south you go. As far as studio parties, if the studio manely ballroom, you won't see much if any. Unless someone else can dance it and doesn't mind standing out. But yes there is at least two milongas a week if, not more in Central Florida.

wow, interesting! Over here, very few studios specialize in AT, it's either one of the specialty dances in the ballroom studio or the studio teaches a conglomerate of dances - ie, Swing, Salsa....etc

It's great down here if you like any Latin style dances. There are studios that not only specailize in AT, Salsa and ect. but the get envolved in the growth of the scence to. Most of the AT studios help support one another, which is great. Another thing two is you'll see the Salsa studio's help the AT and visa versa.

Lynn:
I only see BC Canada, so I can only guess exactly where you are. Portland Oregon has a big Argentine tango scene, including milongas and practicas most days of the week, a place called "Tango Berretin", and two festivals a year. Try "Argentine tango Portland" in Google. Seattle, too, has many events and regular milongas, although I am less familiar with that city. I would be surprised if Vancouver didn't also have a lot going on. But maybe not. BC is a lot bigger than just the Vancouver area, and usually you need a fairly large population to draw enough people interested in something like AT.

Hi, Steve,

WELCOME!!

I'm actually in Vancouver, BC - looks like we live in the same city just different state/province  !! Unfortunately, we don't have a very big dance scene out here - and AT is one of those showcase dances that we only see in performances. The AT classes are quite small and frankly, i don't think we have a lot of qualified AT instructor as well.

Lynn, I don't know what your budget or schedule looks like, but tangoatsea.com has an Argentine Tango cruise scheduled in Mid-August from Seattle going to Alaska. There is also Nora Dinzelbacher's Tango Week (and weekend.) in Northern California in July.

Lynn, your only two hours away from me!

In Seattle, WA, Argentinean Tango is primarily danced socially. We have Milongas where you can dance AT. Very seldom is it danced as an exhibition. This happens only on special events.

Several places and instructors here specialize in AT. The number is actually quite proportional to the AT following in Seattle.

We actually have an ad-hoc Argentinean Tango "Communication Network" that outlines what is going on in the city related to AT. Check them out: www.allseattletango.com (http://www.allseattletango.com)

In St. Louis we have classes and milongas. AT is thriving.
