Hi,
I'd like to know if a timing 2/2 is the same that saying that it is 4/4. I'm confused because I have read that cha cha cha is a music in "cut" time.
I'm not very used to music theory...
Any idea or hint is really appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Hi,
can someone give me some trick or hint about how to do the rising and lowering phase in vienesse waltz. I think you have to rise first one of the feet and the same applies for the lowering, am I right?. However, I usually rise and lower both feet at the same time. I find it difficult to do it differently.
Any hint would be great!
Thanks in advance

I assume that you do not play any kind of musical instrument, as you should be aware of what this could be if you did play. So, to answer your question would be very tough to explain. However, if it helps, the answer to your question is "no."
Let's make it really simple: You mentioned cha cha, but swing is easier to
explain. ALL music is not written in 4/4 time. A lot of it is written in 2/2 time, some in 6/8 time. And still, others in 12/8 time. "Sometimes a particular song, especially faster ones, can be found in 4/4 time in one book and 2/2 time in another book."
A lot of music is written specifically to add "feel," as a lot of Swing music is written in straight eights through the first measure of the music. This was done for a reason not relevant to your question.
You need to learn to "hear" the music and dance to the music . . . feel the rhythm, and you specifically need to learn to hear the 1. In cha cha, this is critical as, depending on the cha cha that you do, the break can be on 1 or 2.
In summary, listen to the music while you dance. You don't have to count. You can hear the music and then use the beat wherever it is.
I hope you understood some of this . . . :D
