Since there was not yet thread on the exciting latest development of argentine tango, i like to give a few pointers and promote this amzingly powerful dance concept that works without rythm contraints or basic step:

Wallstreet Journal 8-29-05, by kim-mai cutler 2005: http://web.ics.purdue.edu/%7Etango/Articles/wsj_new_tango.pdf

more articles and interviews on http://www.neotango.info/articles/index.htm

please add anything related you find in this thread or on the neotango page :)

-thanks!

Just curious...is swango a part of neotango? Or is it more of a parallel development?

swango is a fusion of swing with tango. there are many fusions of argentine tango. tango nuevo - the music - was fusion with jazz. neotango covers everything from tango nuevo to other tango fusion (e.g. electronic tango) to danceable non tangos. same goes for the dance. fusions of tango with salsa are much more common.
so yes, since the term includes all fusions it would cover swango (music&dance) too :)

what these subgroups of neotango all have in common is the ability to lead your partner into any kind of rythmic or even (non rythmic/ just melody) pattern or whatever the leader prefers to interprete with his and her body (the base of which is the fantastic powerful TECHNIQUE of argentine tango) - cool hu :)
