I'm a beginner in ballet but am getting pretty good at it. I think pointe would be so fun and would love to be on pointe at some point (no pun intended). I was just wondering if anyone knew how mnay years it takes to get to that level.

Also if anyone could suggest websites or stretches to help prepare for pointe that would be awesome.

Thanks in advance!!!

Usually girls begin ballet and wait until they are 12/13 to begin go on pointe- when there feet have stopped growing and they have demonstrated strong muscles and good technique. It really is all about strong ankles and calves and lifting. If you have just started ballet, I would say a few years would have to pass before strong technique develops. There is a book The Pointe Book that I know many teachers recommend their first time students read before even considering pointe and a ballet route. Also, they don't call them little pink torture chambers for nothing. My feet are deformed from the experience- but I loved the 3 years I was on pointe!

Warning: I know nothing about pointe.

Just wanted to thank you Giselle. You're one of the few DF members who is a ballerina, not a partner dancer. Yet you've stuck with us all this time. A lot of the topics probably mean nothing to you. But you're hanging in there with us. Thanks. I appreciate you. :D

Hey now! I regret that! :( I dance American smooth and latin, and I can hold my own in hustle, jazz, and hip hop! ....hmm I also do remember a post somewhere about me and my college ballroom organization... :?

Hey giselle! :D

In my own defense, the only dancing you've ever mentioned doing was ballet. Then you mentioned NOT being a member of a dance team. What was I to think?

Glad you're a partner dancer, too. :D And I still appreciate you. :D

For ballet and pointe information, check out the dance magazine: Pointe - www.pointemagazine.com.

There are also a wealth of resources listed in the "Resources" section of my website www.dancersdreamland.com.

Hope this helps!
