This week it's jive and tango. One can only imagine how hours and hours of jive every day feels - especially to a newbie - so I have a lot of sympathy for the "celebs" this week.

You can read some mildly interesting commentary on the blogs on the ABC site btw - cheryl, bruno and louis all have one. it's in the left-hand nav.

I checked them yesterday morning to see if anything new had been added...have they been updated since then?

I definitely feel for the people who end up doing jive. That's gotta be brutal on the knees, ankles, back, hips...

Yup, I'm predicting a knee blow-out for P. It's hard to keep that up for any length of time...nevermind hours on end a day. My guess is that many of them will be doing swing, not jive.

Or what about George Hamilton, he already had some knee injuries. (I'm guessing he will have to do the Jive). I'm curious how Lisa and Stacey are going to do in the Tango.

True...Neither of the pros are strong smooth/std dancers. But they could do Tango sorta like Paso :)

Rosarita Giselle, I feel has an upper hand on the Tango.

Not even gonna think how poor Tia will do! Bottom 2 might come down to Tia & Master P and if George's jive doesn't hold up, we might just get to see Master P for another week! Ai-ya-yai!

Then again at atleast the sneakers might be ok for jive. ;)

Pre-show prediction:

George will get booted. Don't know if he'll get the lowest scores (probably won't, as P will keep up his last place streak), but George's injury is going to be his downfall.

anyone else want to wager?

Last year at this point they stopped assigning the dances by sex. Rachel and John got to Tango and Kelly, Joey, and Evander Jived.

I predict Stacy, Jerry, George and Giselle will be given the Tango

Drew, Miller, Tia and Lisa will be given the Jive

I wish it were not so. I would like to see Stacy getting the Jive because I want to see what else she can do. If she Tangos then she is at risk of seeming to repetitive, a one trick pony. She is far more likeable than Rachel but she is already being seen as a step pose model rather than a dancer by non-dancers.

I want Miller to Tango, picture it, Miller and Ashley in a Tango. Jive will allow him to ham it up and "pass" with the viewing public. Tango would be a trainwreck for him and hopefully convince his fans that it is time to put him out of his misery.

He did know he was going to be the replacement dancer at least by December 15th but he wouldn't rehearse with Ashley. He was a last minute replacement for his son and just wanted a forum to say something about Katrina and to encourage kids in the "hood" to be willing to try new things. I am sure he fully expected to be voted off week one and didn't mind in the least. He thought of it as a lark and didn't expect to be expected to take it seriously. I recall last year stars saying it was far more work than they had been led to believe by their contracts which only require a few hours a week of practice. They suck in the stars with the contracts. The stars soon find out that they will look awful if they don't put in far more time than is officially required as per their contracts.

Miller is now stuck. He did not bargain for nor does not want to spend hours every day training for the duration of the show. As you could all see, he did practice harder for the second show and I am sure he is going to practice hard this week too but his heart isn't it. All he needs is a graceful (no pun intended) way to retreat.

hmm, first thought is that P and George will get lowest judges scores. Although, Edyta has done a great job of hiding George's limitations with choreography and I don't doubt that she will do it again this week. I'd be willing to bet that P's feet never really leave the floor and he'll shuffle through the jive.

Tia may be down there as well -- although she had a very nice waltz and if she can improve on that she should be in the middle of the pack, if not higher.

I'm not so sure Stacy will do well with waltz, her long limbs could end up looking messy in such a precise dance.

I think top scores will go to Giselle, Drew and Jerry.

Wouldn't you *hate* to be in the position of having to do 20 free hours of lessons than 5??!!

Whine.....

Lets say your kid was invited to do a show where they paired up real wrestlers with a variety of people from other professions. You kid was told they would be expected to "train" for five hours a week. Each week one of the amateur wrestlers, (you) drawn from ballroom dancing, sportscasters, football players, tv personalities etc. would get dropped and it was all supposed to be done tongue-in-cheek. Your kid dropped out due to injury and you were asked to take their place. Figuring you would get a chance to make a plug for ballroom dancing, you decided what the heck, it's a few hours, you know that nobody could be worse at wrestling than yourself so you would get voted off first, so you accept.

Would you consider it a treat to find out that you had been mislead and that really you were being set up to be humiliated on television, critiqued by judges as though you had seriously committed yourself to learning how to wrestle, and was expected to put in four to five hours every day to practicing?

I don't think so. I think you would be saying, wait a minute, I committed five hours a week, not forty, I have a job, I have a life, I don't want to spend my every waking minute outside of my other life commitments wrestling and being judged on pro-wrestling criteria.

I am not a dancer, and yes, I would be over the moon to get virtually unlimited hours a week with a pro for a couple of months. I wouldn't be over the moon doing it on national T.V. I definitely wouldn't be over the moon if it was some other activity, like bowling, or wrestling, or curling, or any other number of activities that just don't turn my crank.

*ouch* Not sure if I need to answer since you took the liberty to do so on my behalf ....

but, no, I would make the best out of the situation. It seems like most of the "celebrities" (and who here heard of Stacey, for instance, before this? how is she even a celebrity?) are either doing this because they thought it would be fun or because they'd like to work their way back to the "A" list. I wouldn't embarrass my kid by making NO effort at all, that's for sure. You know, if they really don't want to be there, they can either fake an injury, slap their pro to the point of being arrested, or put the word out to their fan base that they really don't want to be there.

I think you're making more out of my comment than I intended. I'm just personally jealous that they get all that free time in dance lessons.

True, but the other celebs were approached well in advance and most likely watched last year's DWTS before deciding whether or not to participate. P's acceptance was more impulsive and taken as an opportunity to get some airtime for Katrina victims. Did you know he "adopted" 2000 homeless Katrina victims?

With the exception of Jerry Rice this is a career boosting opportunity for the other contestants. It isn't for Master P. Miller is a very wealthy man successful bigshot. This will do nothing either for or against his career. I am sure he saw it as a charity thing.

Not getting voted off was a rude shock to him and he clearly put more effort in for week two. My bet is he is going to work even harder this week, bite the bullet so to speak, but is getting no personal pleasure from his participation. He is most likely praying that he will do better this week but get voted off so that he doesn't have to keep doing it.

You're right, sorry, I think I have been spending too much time on the ABC DWTS board. Some people have gotten really vicious. Don't worry about it. Sometimes things don't come across as you intend them to to other people and sometimes I don't really say things as I necessarily mean to say them. I'm just in a hurry to respond to someone.

I will say this, though. I do this softball tournament to benefit my kids' school every year. I used to enjoy it, but my knees started bugging me and heck, I'm not exactly a spring chicken anymore. But, I did go out and do the best I could and maintained a positive attitude. I didn't go out and give a half-hearted attempt and embarrass myself or my kids. I was by no stretch a great player, but sucked it up and did it. I just think if he's going to claim "it's for the kids in the hood", or even more notably, "it's for the Katrina victims", then GIVE IT YOUR ALL!

Anyway, off the soapbox....

That's probably quite true, and I'm sure that it hasn't turned out to be his ideal situation any more than it has been Ashley's. I still take exception to how I perceive him to be acting about the whole thing, but I also concede that unless I was in his shoes (yup, those!) I can't really know what he's thinking or feeling about the whole thing. From a purely dancing standpoint, however, he's got to go!!!

Ok, so I'll comment on what I was lucky enough to see, and hope my cable comes back in by the time I'm done.

Jerry is just so adorable. His dancing is a bit tight, but his expression and his personality makes him so much fun to watch.

Giselle looks good to me, very clean.

Drew kicks a$$. He is totally a dancer.

George is a great showman. Very charming. Edyta does a great job of hiding the fact that he's so far behind in the actual dancing.

Lisa's dancing leaves something to be desired, but her spirit and her attitude are great.

Tango clearly isn't Stacy's strongest dance, but I think it looked very nice and highlighted her strengths well. Love the song.

Don't tell me she did Tango! What was she thinking!

I don't believe it is up to them.

But if it is up to them, it makes perfect sense. They have to do each dance once anyway, so do the weak dances now. She's a lock for the top 3, probably a lock for the top 2. So it makes sense to do her partner's weak dances first. That way, she can save the latin dances (Tony's specialty) for the end, when it is just 2 or 3 couples left.

Ashley is the best sport ever. Wearing that "A" hat... good for her. If he won't embrace ballroom, good for her for making it look like a partnership anyway by embracing his style.
