or is it just a way of identifying in general music with a low tempo?

I've got a CD where the song "My way" is qualified as "Slow". Any ideas about this type of dance (if any) are appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I don't know if there's actually a dance called the "slow dance," although someone else may know of such a thing.

In my experience slow dance is a catchall phrase that covers a lot of nightclub style romantic dances. I can think of two, but there are probably many more.

Nightclub two-step is categorized as a slow dance. There's a thread on that one. It's done to slow, romantic music that's too slow even for bolero. Then there's another dance, the foxxy, that was created by a very nice gentleman I've taken coaching from - Gary Stephans. It's also done to very slow romantic music. The hold is casual, similar to a loose ECS hold, with anywhere from no contact to full body contact, depending on the comfort level with your partner. The basic for the gentleman is forward walk L,R,L then pause and sway, sway, sway. Then back walk R,L,R. Then pause and sway, sway, sway. Very simple and very flexible. You can add whatever turns feel comfortable to you. Nice and easy. :D

serg_juv, night club 2 step would be the dance for this particular song. :)

Oh yeah, and another thing popped into my head. Ron Montez markets a couple videos on nightclub slow dance. I'm not sure what's in them, but there's likely some of Ron's original choreography there. Slow dance is really versatile. :D

Jenn,
You are talking about the Night CLub 2 Step (NC2S)?

It's slowly becoming one of my better dances, especially now that my upper body is taking on some new dynamics . . .

I'm not sure what Ron is selling, because he also sells other videos on nightclub two-step. So I'm assuming that they're two different things.

But yes, NC2S is one sweet dance. Easy-going and romantic. :D

It is NC2S. I looked at a couple free video clips for his videos and that's what Ron Montez seemes to be demonstrating.

And this dance is ever-growing. Socially it can be done like most individuals do it basic QQS, QQS), but in competition they want to see the some cahnge in the expression of the dance. Changing to QQS-a, QQS-a. The Slow is extended and at the end of the Slow, when the hips (not the shoulders) and beat have reached maximum extension, the body goes to the upright position at -a.

This doesn't mean that what you are doing is wrong if you do it differently, it's just that our federation has changed the rules for us!

Which is the way I have learned it, however, they are talking about "moving" in a diamond pattern on the floor, and I haven't got this down just yet.

For slow dance, I just revert to my high school dancing days and do a 4 count sway to the right, 4 count sway to the left, all the while spinning in a circle in place.

Since this doesn't require much thought, it makes it easier to smooch during those romantic songs!

Ah, you're talking about belly-button rubbing, belt-buckle shining, grope-the-one-your-with, kinda slow dancing???
