YAY!!!
To be beaten only by a few of the most popular, full-season shows like "Lost" and "Desperate Houswives' and a play off game is AMAZING! It is so cool to think about how many people are watching this show!

Ummm, where's Skating with Celebrities that ET kept claiming was "the hottest show on TV"?

They used too much ice and it couldn't maintain its hotness. :-)

ET is syndicated. Individual stations pick it up in each market.

If I remember last Summer, I think it gained viewers as the season progressed. If you click on the link for Season, it is #6 for all shows for the year so far. It is also ABC's top Thursday night show. I think this all points to a definite continuation of this show for many seasons. And of course it would be icing on the cake if it hit #1 again.

NYTimes picks Skating with Celebrities over this season's DWTS. free registration required:
www.nytimes.com/2006/01/20/arts/television/20star.html
opening salvo:
The kaleidoscope opening is great. Shambling Master P is great. The astounding, muscle-bound bodies of Lisa Rinna and Stacy Keibler are great. But this season, ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" lacks something - novelty? Maybe now that we know what a rumba is, and a quickstep and a Viennese waltz, it's all just ballroom dancing. More thrilling to do than to watch. And the humor of this silly show seems muffled this round; the competition has even acquired an air of sweaty desperation, almost as if it were "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?" for our time. It was better over the summer.

I'll bet you the writer of the article doesn't know how to dance.
That is an aweful review.

both DWTS and the skating show have as their audience people who don't know how to dance. first of all. second of all, critique does not require previous participation in the art form. third of all, the point the reviewer makes has nothing to do with dancing or skating, but rather the question, "do they make good tv." and more precisely there's an argument about the role of novelty in reality TV - an argument i find pretty persuasive.
lastly, it is spelled "awful." :)
