Yes, my lw and I plan to spectate and shop for our first pairs of dance shoes. If all goes according to plan, it'll be our first chance to meet anyone from DF (namely, Fascination).

Okay...I may be able to pull this off, if I can get from the train station to your place, Fascination, or the competition venue on the Friday morning. (I'm assuming the comp venue...the train schedule is ridiculous, I tell ya...) I don't know what transit options are available, and renting a car would put me over budget. So, suggestions? I'm doing the train because it's 1/3 the cost of flying and it doesn't leave me with a two hour stopover in Detroit *shudder* like the bus would. (No offense to anybody from Detroit...I just had a really bad experience there once that completely turned me off of the city)

Based on my fair (but not great) knowledge of the area and the hints Fascination has dropped in PMs regarding the location of her home, I'm guessing her home is pretty convenient to a commuter railroad that also happens to serve the South Bend airport and downtown Chicago. But that's her home. The commuter rail I have in mind does not go very close to the competition venue and I'm not sure how easy it would be to catch a cab from the commuter rail station to the venue.

Of airports, O'Hare is diagonally on across Chicago from the competition venue. It's a pretty good trek. Midway is considerably closer to the venue than is O'Hare. But transit from Midway to the venue might be a challenge. Without looking, I think F. is right about Midway being closer to the venue than is S. Bend. And Midway is certainly served by more flights than is S. Bend. But the commuter rail's direct service to/from the S. Bend airport might make it a touch more convenient.

For someone flying from Toronto, I would think it would be possible to connect in Cleveland and fly direct from there to S. Bend, and catch the commuter rail to Fascination's neighborhood.

By overland rail (AMTRAK on this side of the lake), I think the only destination options would be South Bend and Chicago. Curiously, the commuter rail I mentioned serves neither AMTRAK station directly. One could take a cab from either AMTRAK station to the commuter station. On a trip from Toronto, it seems S. Bend would be the better choice. However, I think it would be a long train ride... probably on the order of 24 hours.

I'm sure that tomorrow, when F. is feeling more chipper, she'll help anyone who's interested with more complete (and correct) travel info.

there are united limo buses that go to my hometown from midway ohare and so bend Like I said, F. is the expert. I didn't know about the limo busses. For all I know, such busses might also serve the competition hotel (or at least close).
the south shore which you can transfer to from downtown chicago or south bend(train) stops within walking distance from my home For clarification, the South Shore (http://www.nictd.com/) is the commuter rail to which I refer above. And it looks like I was pretty close in my estimate of the location of Fascination's home! (Don't worry dear, I won't try to track you down!).

Congrats! Awesome results :) BTW, I was wondering ... how do you dance so many heats at one competition? Doesn't it get extremely exhausting? With 44 heats that's the equivalent of dancing 9 rounds of a 5-dance event!
