The February 13, 2006 issue of ESPN The Magazine has a 2 page article on Jerry Rice re his training for DWTS. Of course, it's mainly a fluff piece (you probably know that ESPN and ABC are owned by the same company).

But I recall some of the posters here talk about Jerry's posture. It discusses that in the article, stating that 20 years in football makes being in a crouch the natural position for Rice and that standing straight up is unnatural. To which Anna responded, "Dancing is not natural."

Other tidbits:

* he did 50 hours of practice on dancing fundamentals in addition to the 20 hours a week he spends for each new dance.

* Anna had no idea who Jerry Rice was when they were partnered up. (Not surprising since some of the posters here also had no idea who he was).

* The article mentions a "San Francisco" studio. I'm not sure if they are taking the journalistic shorthand of referring to anyplace in the Bay Area as "San Francisco." But the pictures accompanying the article do not look like Imperial (in Redwood City) or Starlite (in Sunnyvale), the two places where DWTS filming is done.

I don't understand why a receiver would crouch. A linebacker or a cornerback, sure. I would think a receiver would be encouraged to be as tall as possible.

When you're receiving the ball, yes. However, once the catch has been made, you want to get down low to maintain a lower center of gravity in order to make it harder to be tackled...and to protect the ball a bit more.
