lisa's shoulders look sculpted out of rock.

the look she gave her coach as they stood there waiting for the dance to begin is exactly the one i use - cliffhanging fear masked as ennui.

max's kids were cute, i actually liked the costumes they put them in - casual, stylish and, shocking considering how tactlessly they are normally dressed for competition, not too revealing. the girls weren't too made up - also a surprise. if anything the boys seem a little poorly-trained in that they appear to have completely disregarded the concept that the point of latin dancing is to showcase the woman.

Agree totally. I loved watching the students, but I felt like telling the boys to "Pull it back, Cassie."

One thing that is more distasteful is the 70-year old man at my first comp "with his shirt open to his waist, half a bottle of hair product and... multiple necklaces".
I am not making this up. I wish I were.

so let's see, back to the show.
george and edyta, as heidi klum would say, are out. the final stage for conflict is set: drew, stacey and lisa.
personally i think stacey should be disqualified just by virtue of association with anybody connected to the Dirty Dancing recreation. some ballroom dancers have jazz chops but TD did not evidence any in that number. it seemed to be a very close approximation of the original choreography, which was tailored for a very different type of dancer with a very different body - just didn't work for T.

OK, still watching the results show here but I have a question for you "longer" time dancers. Well at least those of you who have been dancing for more than 3 months.
With Max's kids the boys/guys seemed to be really working the room. To the point that they just about out danced their partners. My daughter even commented on it.
Was it just our still untrained eyes or were the guys really hyped and the girls a little off?
Just wondering, they were really good, don't get me wrong. Just curious.
Thanks
alemana

like i said, i thought the boys were hamming a bit too much. they were certainly very strong dancers - it's obvious who gets the most attention at that school - but their job is to put the lady in the spotlight, and they didn't do that. to be fair, they were (as always) dancing somebody else's choreography, so that's part of it.

Thanks Alemana,
We try not to read the posts until after the show is over out here..kind of like the suspense!!!
But had to ask the question because it was driving me nuts...Ok my daughter was driving me nuts asking me repeatedly about it!
Talk to ya soon!

Thank goodness for split screens and digital video recorders. I was forewarned about the cow outfits from a friend who was watching it live. Damn the NBC tape-delay stuff...
But I actually watched the results show semi-live. I just had to cringe when it came to some of the musical selections that are paired with these performances (Thursday show). Also, can we please admit that Stacy has had some ballet training? Maybe it was when she was a little kid, but still... insinuating that she is somehow a novice... (I know we've covered this...).

oh my!! I REALLY enjoyed the "kids" performance! The boys were fresh
I really wouldn't have thought anything of their solos if I didn't read the comments here. i say leave em alone :p they were great! it didn't look like overshadowing the girls, the girls were all great despite the spotlight-time for the boys who had the gift of "rockin it"

This Friday results show is a bit of a stretch, don't you think? They barely have enough material to fill it.
Bye bye, Georgie, you were extremely entertaining and fun.

It's too bad that Jerry Rice has so much popularity. I'm afraid that he will get to the final at cost of Lisa Rinna, and that wouldn't be fair in my opinion.
Lisa is a better dancer but Jerry is so likable and Lisa so histerical that I'm actually fine if he gets into the final instead of her. I don't think it'll happen though.
Of course Valentine and the boys get all the attention; who do you think choregraphed it?;) You see this on the comp floor too with some of the youth couples.

I thought last night's show was pretty awesome- not perfect of course ;) but good. The show with the jive was spectacular- sure the choreography was more tailored in certain parts to showcase the boys but anyone who says Valeriya doesn't know how to play to the camera is insane! I really like the new partnership of Boris and Nicole Volynets- that was the first time I saw them dance together. Sergey did ham it up a bit, but I think that's part of that couple's dynamic- he has a louder personality on the floor and she is more subtle- that is something you have to see in person. Those couples are all so talented!!! Not to mention very very nice people and esp Valentin who is a great guy and actually kind of quiet in person- obviously quite different than his dance persona. Watching him and Valeriya practice is incredible.
About the Dirty Dancing segment. I actually liked Cheryl's performance here! If anyone should complain about anything, it should be Tony Dovolani's attempts at acting, dancing jazz (w/psuedo- ballet jumps and pirouettes that he hasn't a clue about), and skipping around. It needs to stop!
All I have to about the voting is thank God America got things right this time! I love George but it was time to go and I don't think he would have literally survived another week. It looks like the finale is really going to have the best celebs of the show.

No, his younger brother, and already a World and Blackpool Champion (in the appropriate age categories).

My thought exactly! The girls need some lessons from a great female pro, and the boys need to be introduced to the concept of partnering!

Agreed. The segment was fine until Tony started doing that. He looked really awkward doing those jumps and stuff, just not natural.

ever.
I've seen him do quickstep with a professional partner on a video that a friend of mine has and it's obviously quite different from what the 'stepdown in quality' that he had to do with Lisa. Do keep in mind that the professional dancers are stepping their 'game' down to work with these celebrities.

People may have already started thinking about Week 7, but I'll finally chime in since I didn't get to see most of the Thursday/Friday shows live. I did check out Raphael Pungin's website this weekend, though.
First of all, I'll say that I think Lisa is annoying, irritating, and downright unpleasant to watch before and after her dances.....but her actual dance performances have gotten better and better each week -- and her Quickstep was EXCELLENT! I watched her feet the entire time and she was onbeat, never missed a step, and to finish it with a run up the stairs in her heels was just remarkable! She deserved a 10. Any qualms about the speed of the music/routine (mentioned earlier in this thread) are a choreograpy issue in my opinion, but she did what she was asked to do and did it extremely well.
Drew was also very good, and I would give him a 9.5, if half-points were allowed.
Stacy's solo work in the Jive was just phenomenal -- worthy of a 10 -- but her partner work was a bit weaker, so I would have given her a 9 overall.
Jerry was good, but he's up against some strong competition. I would say 7.5 for him. By the way, I don't think I've ever seen any person on the show in the last two seasons ever look as pissed as Anna did after they got their scores this week! She had to be flabbergasted (as I was), that Jerry still couldn't score higher than George with the judges.
George was the same old George -- all face and arms, but very little feet and legs. In other words, mostly acting and not much dancing. He deserved a 5.5 or a 6.
