I hope the moderators don't mind me making this thread already, but I had a question about it. Does anyone know who's gonna dance what?

Go for it, Ralph. :D

I meant to ask this a long time ago. The pros are getting paid a flat rate per week, right? Then how many hours can the celeb & pro work together? Is there a cap? Watching Louis following Lisa around (likewise Alec was following Kelly in last season), I cannot imagine a top gun like him wouldn't get paid for that ! Can't be included in that flat rate pay!

pygmalion

I think the amount quoted (for last season) was a flat $2000/month. Not sure what the fee is this season.

Well, here's what I'm wondering, too....do the pros work with the celebs right there in LA, or do they fly them back to their studios and work with them there? I kinda wondered if they get some extra choreography/coaching help with dances that are not the pro's "best."

Who do you think will have to leave? I am almost certain it will be George.

I had heard that the fee is up $1,500 a week this season. Gosh, $2000 a month is very little indeed for a lot of work! I guess the dance teachers must want the exposure. I wonder how much the show pays the celebrities. I bet the rate for them varies due to negotiations (i.e., "pay me a million, and I'll draw more fans to your show"). :raisebro:

Taken from the Feb 2006 DanceSportComps.com newsletter (produced by Michael Mead):

The Professional dancers currently co-starring on the TV program Dancing with the Stars all signed with the same talent agent (who happens to be John O'Hurley's agent also) for representation and had renegotiated their weekly fee from $1500 up to $2100 plus accommodation. The stars are rumored to be making $75,000.

Alec Mazo, who had a separate agent and was asking for more money, was dropped from the show. Charlotte Jorgensen was apparently interested in continuing with the program but in the capacity of co-host, and when that opportunity did not present itself, she left.
Charlotte would have made an exceptional co-host! ABC really screwed up on that one. :?

I dunno...it certainly doesn't seem to be like the position would make the most of her abilities. I have no idea who the brunette is that's doing it this season, but she seems to be pretty much a non-entity.

I know that Anna and Jerry practice in the Bay Area. (See this thread: http://dance-forums.com/showthread.php?t=11365 ). I would assume the other couples also practice somewhere other than LA. I did notice that two of the couples were practicing at the same facility. Unfortunately, I don't remember who they were.

EDIT: I do remember one of the couples. Whoever is married to Harry Hamlin (Lisa?) practiced at a place with a distinctive shelf by the door. Another couple practiced at a place similar to that.

Unfortunately for Jerry, he's gonna really have to put his butt in gear this week, what with taking time off from training to appear at the Super Bowl and all. Anna's going to have to really kick his ass.

ITA. By being in the bottom two last week, it appears he does not have the fan vote to topple Jerry or Lisa. To survive, he'd have to place high with the judges which is almost certainly not going to happen with Drew, Stacy, and Lisa dancing so well. He might be lucky if Lisa's quickstep is not up to par because Louis is a Latin Pro.

i read somewhere that everybody is dancing the dances they haven't done yet, so it won't be like previous weeks, where you'd only see 2 different dances.

You guys should check out the Strictly Come Dancing website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/strictlycomedancing/

They are probably going to do it like the people of SCD did it.

To have a clearer view of when was danced what, you could check my site, I think it is pretty clear on there: http://rbc-tv.tripod.com/id2.html

Is that the same studio that we sometimes saw on "So You Think You Can Dance"? The studios I've seen during the practicing sessions look almost identical to that one.

Cheryl's and Bruno's blogs were updated.
Cheryl and Drew are gonna do the Tango!

I don't know what Jerry/Anna will do this week. We saw him coming out from the back room on his way out. Sorry...No more info on that one. The studio owner said when Jerry first started out, he didn't want anyone to be in the studio & no autograph. He was rather shy. But now, he's enjoying the crowd & even picked popular times to go in. He even started signing autographs! I was in the middle of my lesson, so I couldn't go up there to get one myself!

The studio owner was very friendly & funny. On Thurs nights, he made all his customers bring cell phones & they'd watch the show on this big plasma TV. Then he'd make everyone call in to vote for Jerry!

Wowza! Celeb siting....I hope you had a football with you for him to autograph!! My neighbor has one...she met him at a gym a long time ago. Of course, she knows *nothing* about football, but was starstruck nonetheless!

On a side note, today I was getting onto the subway system here in Boston and right *there* in front of the guy selling tokens was my former instructor with his wife and teachers/students from the studio dancing -- in full costume -- in front of tv cameras. If you're in the Boston area, they'll be on the news tonight as a "promo" for DWTS. It made me want to put my shoes on and join them! What a pleasant surprise.

Well, I know for a fact that Alec helped George with his routine this week. I didn't ask too many questions because I didn't want to pry, but since Alec's so very Latin, I'm assuming that Edyta and George will be doing something Latin.

Minor sound byte:

Alec was a few minutes late showing up for our lesson. A little while into it, he mentions George, after he's already told me on the phone earlier that day that he was in rehearsals with George.

Me: "Yeah, how'd that go?"

Alec: "Uhh, that's why I was late."

Me: "Oh."

Ouch.

For future reference...if we see a clip of Alec in a grey wifebeater with navy trim, jeans, possibly with a button-up overshirt...that would be clips from Monday's rehearsals. He was wearing those clothes to our lesson, and he'd come directly from a rehearsal and was going right back to one too.

Okay. It's clear. The judges took "medication" before the show. NO way was that worth 9's. Harry must have been dropping money behind the podium or something...

Well, we all know from last season's results that the scores are scripted. They want to keep certain people on for the fans they attract, create "rivalries" to up the drama, and so on.

Wrestling has a really large audience and they stage a decent number of milllitary events each year as well (especially on big holidays like 4 July and Thanksgiving). Also, if you look at the numbers of people who shell out $$ to attend WWE events, pay-per-views, etc., it just seems like a more active fan base to me.

You also have to factor in that Stacy is STILL a big star in WWE. 98 Degrees has been quiet for a while, and were never as big as N'Sync or the Backstreet Boys.

Also, she has the "incredibly hot" factor working for her, so she'll get some guy votes just because of her looks. I don't know if women think of Drew as hot. (Then again, I'm a guy, so I don't notice who women think of as hot. In recent days, I've mentioned two different Jessica Alba movies to two different women. They both remarked about how some male star was good-looking. I didn't notice either one of those guys).

Stacy was also very strong, although at times I thought she looked a little hunched toward Tony in closed. I liked her Viennese the best, though.

ITA that Lisa's quickstep should NOT have gotten 9s. I'm not sure I would have scored her above Jerry.

Louis's outfit--OMG. Even Prince would have been going "That's a lot of purple." And the styling was somehow suggestive of going punting on the Cherwell in the Evelyn Waugh era.

Really good show tonight...but George had better be the next to go. (Love that song from "Strictly Ballroom," though. My partner and I used it for a showcase routine several years ago.)

Well for my two cents worth as a non professional dancer.

I think Jerry Rice tries so hard because he is a competitor but he just isn't ever going to be a great dancer. I don't think he really commits to the footwork and he usually seems slump shouldered to me.

I loved Drew and Cheryl, thought they definitely earned 30 and I am not a youngster or pregnant. Hmmmmm I just love the way he goes for every dance and in my opinion pulls them all off. His fast footwork is what I really like to watch.

Lisa and Louis looked like slo-mo to me tonight as well. The moves were right I guess but like they just were moving to slow and I know that is because Louis has to slow it down for her. She also drives me nuts with her enthusiasm before and after the dances (that is just a personal irritation)

Stacy Kiebler always does well and tonight was no exception, however sometimes those long beautiful legs seem to be to much leg. Especially in the really fast dances.( Most won't agree with me there.)

George......for goodness sake, we love ya, but GO HOME!

I also think they are grading much higher this year and it probably is because they have some really competitive dancers right from the start.

The problem is that they are not grading the bad ones as low as they should so that the ones in the middle never feel like they did better than last.

Did anyone notice how little Carrie Ann had to say tonight?

Well, West Coast only had 2 dances in so far. Drew & Cheryl - WOW! I was very impressed w/ both of them. Cheryl's really a hottie! Her routine was perfect, showcased both well. I love the opening 2 walks & link in open position & back into close hold at end of the link. Everyone knows in standard 2 walks & link are such pain to execute nicely. Most competitors would avoid them at all cost ;)

Very nice! Can't wait to see the rest of the dances!

swan
02-10-2006, 12:09 AM
Well, I didn't think Lisa sucked. The music was way slow. She did all basics & mostly in close hold. Not easy. I think her QS was better than any of the men's (w/ exception of Drew). Perhaps 27 was too high, but she should definitely be scored higher than Jerry & George. Everything is relative. Drew & Stacy should be the top contenders w/ Lisa being 3rd at the moment (and probably will stay that way). Pretty fair.

02-10-2006, 12:10 AM
Stacy was way hot! I liked both her & Drew's performances tonight. Hopefully Drew's wife won't go into labor any time soon!!!! Seeing her tummy is making me worry that we won't have a good final showdown! Drew's earned his spot in the final. Need to see him there in the top 3!

Does anyone thing the scores are rather lenient compared to last season? I just don't think anyone advanced so high so fast.

I would agree, but I think the judges have worked themselves into a corner. The scoring is relative, right? If they gave a 27 to let's say Drew/Cheryl's Paso Doble, and then a 30 the next week to Stacy/Tony's Samba, then they can only give a 30 when they see another performance that they think at least as good. At this point I think 27 means "nice job" but not "excellent performance." I think if there are future series, people will say, "but that 25 last night was way better than the 27 you gave to Lisa/Louis in Series 2..."

smooth_dancer
02-10-2006, 04:22 AM
My 2 cents.

I actually didn't think either Drew or Stacey's dance deserved a perfect 30.

I don't know what Len saw, when he told Drew that this was his best dance yet. His shoulders looked worse in the tango than the samba. Overall, his latin dances have been more impressive. I really liked the jive that Drew did a few shows back, and it only got a 27.

Stacey started out really hot with her routine, but I didn't like her kicks later on. She seemed to be kicking too much forward rather thrusting down.

I thought Lisa deserved a 27 on her quickstep, and she was limited by her pro-partner. I'm not an expert at quickstep, but Louis's footwork just looked funny! He seemed to be dancing on his toes throughout. I suspect that he's a latin dancer with little exprerience in standard.

According to the website bios, all of the pros are latin or rhythm specialists, with the exception of Nick.(Though, to be fair, both Ashley and Jonathan were 10 dance champions before specializing in Latin and Anna was a standard champion before specializing in Latin).

Sorry I wasn't on last night, but I was actually at a lesson... wow, what a concept...

They wrecked the scoring last week. From here on out, if you don't get 10s, you're in trouble. The bad thing is, two weeks in a row now Jerry has gotten shafted by the way the scoring has run. They couldn't give him higher scores this week because he was the first one out. It's ridiculous that he hasn't been placed above George in the last two weeks.

Drew was the only one stuck with a song that was as horrific as those we've complained about in previous weeks - I mean a Black Eyed Peas tango?! ***?! He deserves a 30 just for dancing to it as well as he did! I don't think I could have... Other than that song though the music was pretty decent (although L&L's quickstep and Jerry's paso were too slow).

Is it me, or did Anna looked particularly miffed last night? I agree with her that scoring Jerry and George the same is a travesty and she should be pissed! I like that girl - she wears her competitiveness on her sleeve:) I'm the same way...

SLOWEST. QUICKSTEP. EVER.

*falls asleep*

Erm... NOT a quickstep... A SlowStep if anything. And cheeeeeeesyyyyyyy

And good GRIEF with the tears. She is SO not up for an Emmy for this show....

Yeah, but what was with the suit? Oh, I know. He sold a few cars before the show to pay up the bribe....lol

I was thinking he stole SD's purple pimp suit....

Really good show tonight...but George had better be the next to go. (Love that song from "Strictly Ballroom," though. My partner and I used it for a showcase routine several years ago.)

:) ChaChaMama

Yeah, it's too bad Edyta wasn't wearing Tina Sparkle's outfit... It might have made watching the (non)Rumba bearable. Oh well.

Adios Georgie-boy. And what's with the Ritz Baked thingy commercial starring mister crispy? Gratuitous promotion if you ask me...

wow....nick and andrea... quickstep.

Was I the only one who's totally unimpressed w/ this QS? I don't know much about Nick, but Andrea was a very strong standard dancer. They looked so disconnected. The other pro performances were very nice.

I missed the show last night and Raphael hasn't updated his site with the video clips yet! *whine!*

Agree. Closest to Stacey among the contestants, maybe, but not nearly as good. I like his efforts though and his latin dances are fun to watch.

Thank God I'm not the only one. From the start I enjoyed his dancing, but there was something weird about. It's a bit awkward indeed.

ITA swan; really a big step down relative to the other pro performances.

Charlotte would have made an exceptional co-host! ABC really screwed up on that one. :?
I strongly agree, and thanks for the info!

Does anyone know who is performing tonight? They said it is the future of ballroom. Maybe kids from Max's studio?

My scoring would have been as follows:

Stacy & Drew with 8s.

Lisa with a 7.

Jerry with a 6.

George with a 5.

Stacy struck me as being strong at the beginning of her routine, but less so towards the end. Drew seemed just the opposite. Lisa's quickstep didn't seem to be as flight driven as it could have been, although it wasn't a bad performance. Jerry is working hard, but isn't seeming to quite get it. George did less dancing then I'd like to see, but obviously knows how to put on a good show.

By the way, Cheryl looked very, very attractive last night in a super looking brown dress. Yowza:!:

Oh, and I'd date Fascination over Stacy any day. ;)

Did anybody else want to tie Lisa's elbows to her head in the hope that maybe then they'd be in the correct position?
