Wouldn't it be cool to have a fourth guest judge. Each week an other professional dancer or ballroom judge. In that manner we have a second judge who knows about ballroom (not discrediting Bruno).

Yeah, I've chatted with a few people about this too... kind of like how American Idol would have a [former] recording artist or "legend" guest judge as the 4th judge during the season.

Barry Manilow was even a guest judge once ;-)

This would be great, because right now, there is no one speaking on behalf of the American ballroom scene, other than the brief comments we get from the cast of pro's on the show.

Yeah. That would be nice. I think it's been a learning process for DWTS's producers. Yeah. The show's been done before, but not for an American audience. Future seasons (assuming there will be more seasons) might very well evolve into something different.

A fourth judge would be a nice touch, IMO. A win-win.

Agree. And there must be some well-known pros in that general vicinity that wouldn't be too inconvenienced by tossing a couple of hours into the show...good advertisement for them.

Yeah, you might now want all judges to be from ballroom backgrounds, but one former U.S. Champion would be nice.

And along those lines it's worth pointing out that the show is produced by the BBC. I don't know if it's actually the same people who produce the British version or not.

A fourth guest would be interesting, but I can see that the producers might wander what is the point -- Idol has those guest judges on because they are celebrities in their own right. Most pro dancers wouldn't be recognizable to the general audience. Maybe they could start using pros that danced on the show in previous seasons.

I would like to see some more American-style activity on the show. Specifically, I'd like to see some of the dances that aren't in the International syllabus, such as bolero and WCS.

the Australian DWTS (the original version) - has 4 judges 2 high level judges who judge dancesport comps - they took a little while to hit their stride with giving good ballroom comments

the other 2 judges are dancers 1 with competitive ballroom experience and the with some experience of ballroom

Why? I remember the uproar from some people last season (and part of this season) about the voting and suggesting that the audience should be taken out of the ranking process, leaving it just up to the judges....and now some people are even upset with the judges too -- I'm assuming largely because of Carrie Ann.

However, please keep in mind that Kelly Monaco got 10's in the first season finale from Len and Bruno.....George Hamilton got his ridiculous 8's this past week from Len and Bruno....and Stacy's samba (where Carrie Ann has drawn the wrath of the ballroom world) also got 10's from Len and Bruno.

How would this show be improved by having more and/or different judges with ballroom backgrounds?

I think a fourth could be a great addition to the show as long as they are a professional member of the ballroom community with some solid credentials. Carrie Ann is already a judge and she really doesn't have any ballroom experience so it wouldn't be a good idea to add another. I also think it should be someone who isn't afraid to be honest with the competitors on their performances. I know that all the current judges certainly are brutally honest a good amount of times, however, there are times when they seem to overlook important aspects and make it sound like the performance was better than it really was. One person in particular that comes to mind that could be great for that spot is Russell Monk. Anyone out there who knows him, knows that when it comes to critiquing dancing, you're going to get his very honest and knowledgeable opinion.... as well as a few laughs.

What about bringing back the pro partner of the celebrity that got booted the previous week? ... could be interesting

I can see the fun in that.
The only problem would be when Len, Bruno, Carrie give 8s and the ballroom guest judge gives, oh, say a 3 . . .

Ouch. :p

That raised another interesting thought for me. We are now through a full season-and-a-half of DWTS, yet the judges have never varied more than 2 points for the same couple's dance. No matter how good or bad one judge may be perceived in comparison to the others, they all seem to be generally on the same wavelength for scoring, probably based on some guidelines given by the producers. That's part of the reason why I doubt that any other judge (from whatever background) would make much of a difference.

Now that's an idea! Would you have to start Week 1 with only 3 judges, though?

I wonder what kind of guidelines, if any, the judges are given within which to work. Maybe there's an artificial reason why their scores haven't varied much. :?

Which makes the judging on DWTS EXACTLY LIKE the judging in real dancesport comps. HA HAHA, joke's on us!
