Who saw this broadcast? It was last night at 9 PM in my area. (My ReplayTV caught it.) I thought it was great!
The commentary was so much more interesting than the OSB commentary. (Don't get me wrong: I am really enjoying the OSB coverage. I just wish there was more incisive commentary.) Karen Hardy was one of the commentators, and I found her comments particularly interesting. She talked about figures vs. tricks, about what characterized each couple's approach, and about strengths and weaknesses of particular couples. There were also some rather tough criticisms. Karen Hardy repeatedly remarked that the 5th place couple from Hungary had plenty of charisma, but that they were relying on it too much and that she hoped they would work on developing their dancing more.
If you missed it, check your local listings; it may be re-broadcast, and it's well worth seeing!

I saw it over the summer. I really enjoyed it. I liked how they filmed mostly from above the floor so the camera films the dancers from above. It was also really neat to see the tracks along the side of the floor for the floor-level cameras to travel on.

This loosely relates, but does anyone have a video with the US couple Wayne and Marie Crowder? I've heard that there was a broadcast on either FitTV, Bravo, ESPN, or PBS with them in it... sorry I can't narrow it any further. The competition was probably in Spain or Italy and their event was Senior Latin (the world championship).

in a quick search, i noticed that channel 13 (pbs in nyc) is rebroadcasting the following this friday night:
Fri, Feb 10
2:30am
Ballroom Dancing Basics
In BALLROOM DANCING BASICS, former U.S. professional dance champions Tony Meredith and Melanie LaPatin teach a studio audience how to perform seven simple dance patterns (Box Step, Turning Box Step, Zig- Zag Rock, Hesitation Step, Fifth Position Break, Under Arm Turn and Dip) and show how these steps enable couples to perform six different dances: Waltz, Foxtrot, Rumba, Samba, Meringue and Night Club Sway.
MPT schedule shows them broadcasting the 2004 IDSF Standard on the 13th and IDSF 10-dance on the 20th.

My lw and I saw this a couple months ago. We weren't terribly impressed. The woman (LaPatin) was naggingly familiar though. Later we figured out that we'd seen her as a target on TLC's "What Not to Wear."

*giggle* Yeah. I think that episode of "What Not to Wear" got mentioned here, somewhere.
And thanks, alemana. I'll check the local PBS listings. :)
What specifically failed to impress you?
