I'm teaching social dance lessons for our university club, and this semester we have a room without a sound system. I am going to get a boombox to play the music, but thought I'd ask for recommendations.

Constraints:
-needs to be decently loud to fill a medium-sized dance studio
-*needs to have a line-in jack*
-needs to be under $100 (preferably under $70).

Also, if there are decent standalone speakers (e.g. computer speakers) that are cheap, I'd consider them too, since I DJ off of an mp3 player or a computer.

I've seen a couple of dance clubs use this one Sony boombox, which is reasonably cheap, but the dealbreaker for me is the lack of line in.

I welcome your input :)

The line in is needed for the mp3 player?

If someone already has an ipod to use, there are some decent speakers out there that aren't too expensive (or large or heavy) that you hook the ipod into. Our social club uses that for club practices and the sound quality is actually pretty impressive.

I agree with Cateyrosey.

Use your MP3 player and put your cash into the amplification.

Any boom box you buy for under $70 isn't going to have the sound capability to drown out an excited group of people in a medium sized room.
