View Full Version : DWTS 2 - Final week [SPOILERS]

Who will be the winner?
And what are they going to dance?
Stacy: Freestyle, Paso Doble, ?
Drew: Freestyle, Waltz, ?
Jerry: Freestyle, Waltz, ?
I want Stacy to win. I think Jerry should be third (it's scandelous that he is even in the final!). Lisa should've been in it :(

If they're doing this like last season, each competitor will be doing their favourite dance from earlier this season, and a freestyle routine. Still though, that's only what happened last season. I haven't heard anything about this one though...

It's still fun to watch. But I couldn't care less about who wins, since winning is no reflection on who's the best dancer.
looks like we're kinda over this show.
I think you're right. Tonight's the Olympic ladies figure skating broadcast, which I'd expect more people will watch than Dancing With The Stars.
For those of you interested in ladies figure skating results, they're being posted live on the Torino 2006 website.

Wow! I'm wondering if the order that is listed is the order they are skating in, and this seems to be the case based on the fact only the top ladies are listed as having skated at this point. Interesting.

I think you may be mis-reading it. The ranks shown by the girls who have already skated their free program are where they are NOW, not where they came in after the short program. The top skaters are at the bottom of the list and will skate at the very end.

I meant only the ladies listed at the top of the chart have skated their full programs at this point. Sorry for the confusion.

Just to make it simple:
Until they've skated their Free Skate, they're all listed in the order they'll be skating.
After they've danced their free skate, they're listed in the order of their overall rank (short program + free skate).

I thought she took a real step down from her usual solid dancing last week on the QS and Cha. Maybe the pressure of too many dances got to her.
Of course, she said on the Ellen show today that she "rolled" her ankle. So it is an injury that has obviously impacted her dancing.

I must say I am so disappointed with Tony and Stacy tonight. And by a huge percentage I believe most of the blame goes to Tony. Why, oh why, did he come up with such a boooooring rotine? I could have fallen asleep during it! I know good clean hustle is not the random, jumpy stuff we see people do; it can be elegant and refined but for Pete's sake, it should have some energy! As always Stacy's hustle technique was great but this is free style; technique is just part of the package. Tony lucked out by getting such a talented celeb but it seems he did not want to take any serious risks. Stacy is capable of so much more than Tony choreographs into the rotines. Remember how last week Tony shut Stacy up when she wanted more challenging stuff included in their perfomances? I am a Stacy fan but with tonight's performance, I'll be perfectly happy if Drew wins on Sunday. I find it hard to believe any other result is possible. Excellent job by Drew and Cherly. That's how free style should be done and that's how to win over the crowd. Whew! Now I can cool off since I've finished my rant :)
I watched it again on tape. I must be the lone dissenter. I think Tony and Stacey's dancing was technically better, cleaner than Drew and Cheryl's. It wasn't as exciting. But, I have been going to Country and Western comps. for almost fifteen years and I have seen it done a lot better than Drew and Cheryl did. For me there was nothing unique about it.

I am not a ballroom dancer but I am a country dancer and Drew and Cheryl blew me away! I was thrilled that they actually took freestyle literally and took some risks. It was fun, HOT and since I have it recorded I will be watching it many times before I finally give it up!
When Stacey's routine was over I wasn't sure it was really over because it felt empty. I also thought they messed up the lift. I just knew she was gonna come out with guns blazing for the freestyle and put a lock on the title but in my opinion she almost gave it away and as mentioned by others I blame Tony for that.
Jerry did better tonight than ever before so I give him props for trying his best. Still not nearly good enough IMO, but he did make some advancements.

Drew and Cheryl showed as the best! He has consistently worked hard and performed well. Great freestyle!
I thought Stacy blew her final lift! Her legs were all over the place (on the lift.). Way too much John Travolta choreography. And boring.
Jerry looked smoother than he ever has, glad to see so much improvement.
But, the winners are Drew and Cheryl!!
Go, my homey! Cincy kid!

Now that I've seen the show I'll chime in to agree with the majority.
I have so much respect for Drew. Ever since I saw the first honest-to-goodness check step in his cha, I've been impressed. Cheryl's choreography has won me over. Completely and utterly. Does anyone know if she does all of Drew's choreography? On the merits, Drew has earned the win.
Stacy has fumbled the past two weeks. With 14 years of formal ballet/jazz/
tap training, I am surprised she hasn't done better.
And Jerry! In my protective-of-kickass-beginners way, I adore him. He has been a wonderful ambassador for ballroom. He has come a long way, and I hope the public recognizes and appreciates what an enormous accomplishment his has been. (But they don't from what I've seen in the conversations of non-dancers I've witnessed. This makes me very sad. :( )
All in all a very entertaining and successful season, I'd say.
I fear how the selection process will go for next season, though. I think Drew and Stacy set the bar high, and we'll see a whole passel of celebs with extensive prior dance experience. Too bad. I really did like the innocence of thinking it was a contest between relative beginners. I think those days are over now and forever. If DWTS has a few more seasons in it, we'll see that no celeb without experience will want to take it on.
too slow. My cat could follow this...and he ran away 3 months ago.
That's hilarious! :)

Okay, finally posting my two-cents worth on last night. I'll start with freestyle since that is what most people are talking about. I was impressed with Jerry Rice overall last night. I wasn't really sure how he would do in the final and I thought the gap between his dancing and Drew and Stacey's would be a lot more noticeable than it was. He really did perform well last night and I was happy to see the judges back off him finally too. I totally agree that he has been a wonderful ambassador for ballroom dance and as to whether he or Lisa should have made the final round I think the jury is still out on that one. I thought he really gave the freestyle everything that he had and really did loosen up and finally have some fun with the dancing.
I was very disappointed in Stacey's routine. I think the fact that both her and Jerry did a disco-theme routine hurt her as Jerry's was much more spirited and had more heart in it. Her routine was technically perfect and I will give her that but I don't think that is what gets great marks in the freestyle portion of DWTS.
Drew absolutely blew me away in the freestyle event! He had all the elements of freestyle in there and pulled it off with attitude and panache! He got my vote and I need say no more.

If there were an award for most improved, Jerry would get it. I really enjoyed watching his foxtrot last night. I can only imagine what he would look like if he had a couple more weeks of training. Hmm, maybe he's been bitten by the ballroom bug and we'll see him out on the pro-am circuit. :D

Great point Michelle! It's not just that they are getting up to 30 hours/week of top-notch training, they also got paid $75,000 (according to the dancesportcomps.com newsletter) to do so!
Also, as far as I was aware, the prohibition against amateures earning money included performances, etc., as well as teaching (with some specific exceptions).

Like the rest of you, I LOVED Drew's freestyle!!!
I don't think this freestyle category has much to do with "technique" as such. It has to do with expressing some personality, conveying the joy of dancing, and just being plain old fun to watch!
No question in my mind that Drew won that category, with Jerry in second.
I love that Jerry and Anna stayed in character during the interview afterward, with Jerry saying something like "I just want to get funky...cuz I'm like that. (To Anna) Hey baby, keep shaking it." (Not anywhere near an exact quote, but if you saw the broadcast, you remember what I was talking about.) He was just having such fun with the role he was playing and that was so fun to see.
Regarding whether the DWTS celebs should be allowed to compete as amateurs: no brainer as far as I am concerned! Let 'em dance!!! I would actually like to make a distinction that some of you will find specious, but which I think works. The celebs on this show are amateur DANCERS, paid CELEBRITIES. That these celebrities were paid to dance does not to me mean that they were paid FOR their dancing, exactly. (They are actually being paid to take the risk of making asses out of themselves on national television, and as compensation for their time.)
Plus--and this is the real reason why this is such a no-brainer--Jerry continuing on in the competitive ballroom world would be the kind of publicity that the NDCA--or, for that matter, USA Dance--should be tripping over themselves to get. It would be AWESOME. Can you imagine Jerry Rice and either Mrs. Jerry Rice or another celeb from the show dancing at USA Dance Nationals in San Jose in 2007? San Jose is close enough to San Francisco that you could count on there being 49er fans who would want to check THAT out. (And then some of them would fall in love with dance at a live comp, and then they would take lessons....) It would be so great!
Would it be a rule bend to allow the DWTS celebs to dance as ams? Maybe. It's not one that would bother me, though. (I save my outrage for things like packages that cost more than their a la carte components, certain pro-am teachers who charge their students a per dance amount that on a minute-by-minute basis even a high-class hooker or a lawyer would find extortionate, etc.)

 I don't spend a lot of time speculating about Carrie Ann's boobs ... or any boobs other than my own, come to think of it.
LOL! Too funny!
I don't know, boob size doesn't matter to me. I like small to large. I'm more of a Butt man.
