Who here remembers the "tighten-up" from the late 60's. I remember the song, but have no idea of the dance. :?
This was back during those days when I would not have wanted to have been caught dead on a dance floor.

Can't remember the dance, but the song is on my personal top 150 CD compilation of Swing songs . . . it's kina fast for my tastes today, but still a great song!

I've heard the song... no clue about a dance that would go with it ... seems counter-intuitive.

Archie Bell and the Drells! :D Ah yes, I remember it well. It's definitely a dance -- my sisters, brother, and brothers in law used to do it, when I was a little one. When I get a chance, I'll ask them.

This just in from my brother in law. And no, I don't remember it from 1968. More like the oldies dance parties my brother used to DJ in the mid-to-late 70's, I'm guesing. I can visualize it from this description, but you probably can't. If I remember correctly, there were some side to side ripples included in the sway, and a sudden stopping action at the change of direction. Hence the name, tighten up.
Hi Jenny,
Yes, the 'Tighten up' is a dance as well as a song musically set for it. It all started in May-June of 1968. (can you remember that long ago)? I'll try to describe the dance as best I can. You would draw your shoulders up and sway from side to side
turning slightly on each side standing in place and you can add a variety of moves with the timing of the music including your legs whether forward or backwards. I hope this oldie but goodie blast from the past satisfy your curiosity. Keep in touch.
