While leafing through a dance magazine recently, I saw an ad soliciting gentlemen to become companions on ballroom dance cruises. They would receive a discounted cruise rate, in return for attending various dances during the cruise, and providing dance partners for the single ladies on board. Hmm. Interesting. What do you think of that?

Depends how big a discount it is, what the time commitment is...what sort of crowd is there...perhaps several years from now... :) I actually dance because things click -- the atmosphere is right. I don't know if I was even that good I would want to dance if I don't feel "into the moment".

As Sagitta pointed out, depends on the crowd and every cruise has a different "flavor." You might end up having to dance with cougars or matrons older than your mother who took the three-lesson special just before leaving port. On the other hand, it might be great fun.
A lot probably depends on your own personality. If you're an extrovert who gets along with people of all ages and backgrounds, you would likely have a terrific time. Otherwise it could just as easily be a big letdown. Aside from that, I would say the amount of the discount would decide whether it makes sense.
If I were single, I would certainly consider something like that. But then, I'm an extrovert who gets along with almost everyone.

I want in, I want in... I hope that discount is about 90% and the cruise is going to the caribbean, stoping at aruba, montego, Jamaica, PR, dominica, and over to florida at which time they fly me back to New York and all I get to listen to and dance is salsa.
I went to a very affluent wedding one time and God... Being the only salsa dancer in the place, I went wild dancing with even the bride's mother. By the time the cake came around I had a bunch of women who could have been my mothers chasing after me for more than a dance. Can I say that I was the first one in the bus back to the hotel hidding in the bathroom... The groom still laughs at me after 3 years...

This sounds like it might be fun and a win-win. The only problem I had with it was that the dance requierments of the guys were pretty low. Couldn't they at least hold out for good dancers?

Most of the guys they hire are senior widowers. They like to dance, but they don't want dates and all the other things that sometimes go with dancing. They want a contract that says they are only for dancing.

I've actually seen quite a fwe ads for these positions, in magazines and on the web. Seems like a nice opportunity for you guys that have some dancing ability -- to do some travel. A lot of them are looking forgentlemen 45 - 70, but some don't specify age at all. 8)
