 :o    :P
What kind of funny or weird (or both) things have happened to you on the dance floor?
Here's a couple from my neck of the forest:
1) A couple Christmases ago, I went to a swing dance venue that has long been my favorite ( Swing City www.wannadance.com ). I danced with this one woman, who was fun as all get out and very sweet to boot. It happened that she had these battery powered X-mas lights in her hair. Every time she would spin or twirl, I had to snap my head back to avoid being hit by this strand of lights in her ponytail :lol . I still laugh about it to this day!
2) At another swing venue, I danced with this one woman that had LONG fingernails, almost like the talons on a Hawk or a Great Horned Owl. Not only was she a bit, well, over-energetic, but also was holding on with a near-death grip, with those "talons" digging into my hand  . I kept my cool, but later I said to myself bemsuedly "Was I just dancing with a person or a bird-of-prey?" :?
How about y'all?

Haha, when I first started training to be an instructor I had fairly long acrylic nails and it was rather hard to keep the connection while dancing. Needless to say I keep them short and natural.

One time I was performing in front of about a hundred people and we were doing the lift from Dirty Dancing (you know the one they practiced in the lake). Just like in Dirty Dancing my partner had second thoughts about the lift. The only difference is that as she came running forward, she stopped, falling forward slightly. I outstretched my hands and grabbed both breasts!

No, but I think my wife would have destroyed it long ago if I did (the breasts were not hers).

I've accidently caught my "Pro" in the wrong places from time-to-time, albeit only in the studio - never in competition. She thinks nothing of it, but used to bother me!
It happens very infrequently nowadays . . . I must be getting better at dancing, leading, and placing my hands in the right places at the right time!
I can imagine that your mishap was indeed a sight to see. Did you blush? Did she?

I was practicing a dancesport pattern with a fellow male instructor the other day in the training room at our studio. Everything was normal but we got stuck on how a step was supposed to look, my collegue to keep from getting more frustrated went over to the mirror and started to *ahem*..make pelvic thrusting motions at himself. I laughed, he laughed and needless to say we weren't frustrated anymore.

LOL! I love all your stories. I have two stories that are similar. One happened to me, one happened to a dancer during a competion. Last year I went to a WCS dance convention in Arizona. While I was dancing, I felt the strap on my top break (it was a halter top, skinny strap). I managed to look down and grab my blouse before it fell off. The man I was dancing with didn't notice until I stopped and grabbed my top. He said, "I always hoped that would happen one day and I missed it." I turned red, he turned red! I tied it back on and kept dancing but after the dance I got a safety pin just to be sure it didn't happen again. I haven't wore that top again. Too bad because it's really cute!! LOL! The same thing happened to at a convention several months ago. Can't remember where it was. If you know any WCS pro dancers, it was Katie Boyle. She had on a very tiny top, completely backless. While she was dancing, the strap broke around her neck. She grabbed it before it fell off and completed their dance routine with one hand (pretty talented). ha ha! She still gets teased about it.

Sounds like we attend most of the same events. I too attend the UCWDC event (corect one???) in Arizona, and I was at the event, front center, when Katie lost her top. By the way, I took privates from Katie and Jason for nearly a year. Do you attend the Fresno event?
I've seen many tops go in the last few years, as it gets very hot at times, and you women are wearing less and less . . . you should see the smile on my face!
I don't miss too many halter tops . . . I would bet that we have danced together, but I would have missed it too (yeah right!), as . . . "I (always???) look into the eyes of person that I'm dancing with."
dancergal
07-18-2003, 12:04 PM
Vince A, you never know we may have danced together. You couldn't miss my halter top. It was purple with a big butterfly on it. :) I'm glad you look your partner in the eyes when you dance. I danced with many that won't look at you. It's very unnerving. Yes, I went to the Fresno event. One of my favorites because they have so many fun things going on plus I love the country dancing, the pajama parties and jello shots! Did you see the contest in the atrium where Kim Levin had to eat worms? What a scream that was.
Vince A
07-18-2003, 12:35 PM
dancergal,
No, I'm sure I would not have missed "the butterflies, er, sorry, you said butterfly."
My lead is so in-tune with a follower when I look into her eyes. It is also unnerving when they can't or won't look back . . .
Fresno is one of my favorites . . . although this year I didn't do Pro-Am there. My Pro wanted me to move up, and our 7 routines just were not jelled by then. Actually, at Fresno this year . . . it was one of my best events that I have attended. I could do no wrong in WCS or 2 Step . . . and was up dancing until 3 or 4 each night, which, if I had done Pro-Am, Jack and Jills, Just Dance, would have gone to bed early to get the rest. I had many compliments on my dancing that weekend, especially after I've just come off a few privates with Yvonne B (my fantasy and idol) who has been teaching me how to get "funky" and "playing" in WCS. It's working.
Funny, you mention Kim. Her boyfriend Robert Campos is my wife's Pro. Robert/Kim and we sometimes share rooms together. We see a lot of them, and sometimes assist in their WCS classes at the new SaddleRack in Fremont.
And yes, the worms were way too much. I assume they (UCWDC) will continue with their version of "Fear Factor." None of us would get near her, and Robert wouldn't kiss her very much, and when he did, he immediately downed a beer. Too funny. Best weekend I've ever had at an event!

Vince A - Oh my, then this is a really small world. I wonder if we know each other! I used to be a dance helper at the new Saddle Rack where Robert and Kim teach. I only did Wednesday nights, not Thursdays when Robert teaches. I did that from when it first opened until the end of June. I recently took a leave of absence this last month because I was getting burned out of all the traveling since I live in Santa Cruz (it about an hour's drive). We are required to practice on Tuesday evenings, so that was two evenings I had to be there plus many Saturdays. I go to a WCS dance class on Mondays (in Campbell), so I was dancing almost everyday of the week. We still dance there most Wednesdays and some Saturdays. We also like to go on the Sundays whenever Robert has classes there if there is not another WCS Sunday dance going on. Is this too funny?
Vince A
07-18-2003, 02:16 PM
I'm sure we've met and danced.
We were there at his first class on Sundays for the 2 Step, although the DJ played a lot of WCS afterwards!!! I always ask a new person, which I dance with, where are they form? And I have met quite a few from SC.
This truly a small world. Did you happen to be at or near the large round table in Fresno where Robert/Kim were sitting during Pro-Am? There was about 15-20 of us?
dancergal
07-18-2003, 04:43 PM
Vince A - No, we weren't at that table. Our table was more around the left side of the dance floor and we pretty much danced over there. I talked to Kim and Robert a few times that weekend, but I never did get a chance to dance with Robert. He was always so busy. They are both really nice people. I've seen Robert do some private lessons at the dance studio where we take our classes in Campbell with Richard Kerr and Helen Voss. They have a Monday night WCS class. We take a few privates with Richard. I'm not brave enough to do a Pro-Am just yet. I did compete for the first time in Arizona this year. It was fun.
Vince A
07-18-2003, 04:54 PM
dancergal,
Robert would be a great person to do Pro-Am with, as he is rapidly becoming an up-and-comer Pro. However being from SC area, Richard/Helen would be my first choice - both together if you can afford it!
Can't place you yet . . . but I'm working on it! The last person I hugged goodbye to, out in the parking lot of the Hyatt, happened to be from SC.
Are you going to San Jose over Labor Day? I'm supposed to compete, but had an emergency family crisis last night, which may put an end to my competing for a while.
If you do go, we'll have to dance???
dancergal
07-18-2003, 05:48 PM
Vince A - Yes! we are going to the Labor Day dance convention in San Jose. Maybe we'll have a dance there! If you go the Saddle Rack at all, I'm sure we've seen each other and maybe danced at least once. We hugged a lot of people goodbye in the parking lot in Fresno, but I can't remember who right now. :) If I knew how to make my photo fit here, I would put it up, but I don't know how to make it fit in the format that's required. I'm sorry to hear you had an family emergency. I hope things get better for your family and you'll be back competing again.
Vince A
07-21-2003, 11:12 AM
dancergal . . .
Hope to see you in San Jose . . . my Pro talked me into breaking away from all that's been happening to our family lately, and I went to the studio and practiced until I couldn't go anymore.
I am just getting back into dancing after taking such a beating at World's - it bummed me out for a while, so I gave up dancing.
My Pro moved me up a level and we started last week on 8 new routines. That means I have 6 weeks to get them down. I may drop the Triple 2 and the Triple Step, and just do the required 4 plus a NC2S and ECS. I may not have them in six weeks, but I'll put them on the floor. I'll probably do poorly and look like hell, but by SanDiego in October . . . LOOK OUT! It's called "My Dance Floor!"
You need to get into the competing part of dancing. You'll begin to excel in all your dancing . . . although I don't know you - you could be there already!
Can you divulge your first name only??? I dance with as many individuals as I can, and I always introduce myself . . . so if I hear your name, I can ask if "you are from SC, then "dancergal," etc.

Hi Vince, I'm not really a competition dancer. I've only been dancing WCS 2 yrs. and only recently took some private lessons. I get too tense for competition, but maybe when I get more experience I'll be more confident doing it. I did a Jack & Jill in Arizona for the first time and it was fun, but I only did it for the experience of it. I knew there were going to be a lot of competitors on the floor and I wouldn't feel so much like dancing under a microscope for all the see. I get too nervous and end up dancing very tense. It's good that your back at your dancing. I know it's hard to stay away and it will actually be good for you to get a break from the family troubles even for a little while. My first name is Pam.
Vince A
07-22-2003, 10:27 AM
dancergal, Hi Pam. Actually some nervousness is good . . . it can be turned into energy, and energy is what you need to get through the competitions. But you know your limits better than anyone.
I look forward to meeting you in SJ.
IUt feels good to be back to dancing . . . it kinda keeps the problems in abeyance.
Keep in touch . . . keep practicing . . . let me know how your dancing is coming along???

Hi Vince. My partner and I just started taking privates with Michelle Kincaid last weekend. I hope she will help me improve my dancing. She's really great. Good luck with your dancing. By the way I just noticed that Robert is doing another dance on Sunday at the Saddle Rack August 3rd. We may try to go to that if we don't have something else going. Talk to you later.

The other day I had just got done in the restroom when another instructor at my studio asked me to practice WCS with him. We were dancing away until I glanced at the mirror and saw to my horror that the back of my skirt was tucked into my pantyhose. Thank gosh there were no other students on the floor or they would have gotten a heck of a show!!

There's a woman I see a lot in the salsa scene around here. We'll call her the overstylist. It started innocently enough. She asked me to dance one night and of course I accepted. I'd never seen her dance before at this point. Well, let's just say it was...interesting. It's like she was high on some kind of 'styling crack'! I mean every--single--move--she had was prepped with theses sharp, jerky movements. I played it as cool as possible during the dance, but afterwards I was like
Well now anytime she finds me in a club on a break she asks to dance. Of course I accept, but WOW it is a show!
On a sidenote, I danced a cha cha cha with her last Friday and although she still would throw these crazy stylings in they weren't frequent like with her salsa. That dance was actually pretty fun :)

yes we teach international style at our studio, but only if you are either really advanced/dancing international in a comp, or specifically ask for it. I personally haven't learned international anything yet.. :(

A couple more from my part of the forest:
1) At a swing dance that I'm a regular at: I ask very enthusiastic, energetic young beginner woman to dance. Hooo boy! Before I could blink, I feel like I'm riding a wild bronco more than dancing! :o I kid you not, she was going absolutely nuts and yours truly while trying to maintain his cool is having a devil of a time even trying to lead. YIKES!! (in Dr. McCoy voice-"I'm a swing dancer Jim, not a bronco buster!")
2) At a good friend's wedding: I was a "Penguin" in the wedding party (QUACK QUACK QUACK QUACK - like Burgess Meredith  ). At the reception, when the bridal party's turn came to join the happy couple on the dance floor, I quickly found out that I was the only person in the wedding party that could actually dance. The woman I was paired up with laughingly warned me ahead of time she was an avowed non-dancer (said she drove her husband nuts when he was trying to teach her). Anyway, I did the best I could to lead and she was a good sport about it. It was hard though, but I had to give myself a little talking to inwardly to not look down on those who didn't know how.

When I was first learning to dance, my dance instructor told me to be on the look-out for the my partners hand's so every time I spun I would put my hands up and grab who ever I was dancing with breasts. To this day I don't think that for the first month I spun I grabbed hands.
Another time I was at this latin spot frequented by americans. Since, I was one of the few that could dance all the girls wanted to dance with me. I didn't say to anyone, then this one completely drunk girl wouldn't leave me alone, even her drunken boyfriend came over to ask me to dance with her. Finally I gave in, I was feeling how drunk she was until I mistakenly decided that she was ready for a cross body, so I opened up for it. Her feet got tangled over each other she went flying head first. I couldn't help it but to burst out laughing, all the people that were with me told me, that ought to teach you not to dance with people that can't dance, and above all drunk. I was like darn it, I didn't think my lead was that horrible. :D I'd been embarrassed if she wasn't drunk, but she was too drunk for me to even feel bad for her.
I'd just met this girl, I didn't know she could dance, until she asked me for a dance. I told her, the top you are wearing isn't really a dancing top, needless to say you aren't wearing a bra. She responded with a, I dance with it all the time. So we were dancing a bit and as soon I try to spin the girl she puts her hands up and bang, her top goes down to her waist. I jumped on her and huged her before she even started the spins and walked while still huging her all the way into the lady's restroom so she could pull her top back up.

I'm not sure which I like better -- the drunk girl who couldn't dance or the girl with the sliding top.

Thank you Jenn,
The funny part is that the drunk girl didn't give up. She got up and wanted to start again.
Every time I see the girl from the top incident, she turns red. She is like, OMG, I am so embarrassed. I can't believe that the first day I met you, I got naked in front of you. lol My friends actually told me that I was trying to feel her up. It's rather nice that you think it was a gentlemanly act.

Hey, what was your alternative? Leave her there in the middle of a (probably crowded) dancefloor to handle the falling top all by herself? No. I definitely think you did the best thing you could in that situation. And if you got a little hug out of the deal -- whatever. No harm in that. :D

Thank goodness for all the true gentlemen out there....
I myself had a close encounter with the falling top when I first started dancing. I had no idea that no matter how tight a tube sleeveless, strapless top is, it can still come down as you spin with the guy pulling on your waist. I have never been so embarrased in my life!
Bless the heart of the guy that I was dancing with, who did what borikensalsero did and held me up close to cover me as I quickly pull the top back up.
I have learned the hardway to be very careful of what I wear to the club....nothing that will show more than I care for up top or down bottom

Warning: This story is shocking and creepy
This is kind of weird. I was at a salsa night. The club also featured other themes such as punk and alternative, etc. These two beautiful girls came up to me and told me they both wanted to have sex with me. They were obviously drunk or something. They also wanted me to buy them a drink. I didn't but them a drink, but hung out and talked with them for a minute. They started kissing each other and I was embarassed and I think I walked off.
A few minutes later, the blonde girl was gone and the brunette was in the corner on the couch and nearly passed out. Some guy was sitting next to her and trying to place his hands in inappropriate places (what a loser!). I went over and started talking with her. She was kind of sleeping and then she lashed out and started trying to hit me and then somewhat passed out again.
I got a girl I know to walk with me as I carried her out into the hallway and sat her in a chair. That's when we noticed her zipper was down and was leaving nothing to the imagination. I sort of blocked everybody's view and my female aquaintance tried to zip her up. It didn't work the zipper was broken.
I went and got someone from the club and they carried her out the back door and layed her on the pavement. About four of us gathered around her. She abrubtly turned her head to the side and puked about a quart of blood (not really, it was sangria, but that's what we thought at first). We raised her sleeves and she had needle marks (apparently she had been shooting Ectasy). They completely removed her shirt and started monitoring her heart and lungs as they called the paramedics.
I never found out what happened to her but I may have saved her life.
I hope this didn't shock anyone too badly, but it's a wild story I had to share with someone.

Two years ago I'm at a salsa club on a Friday night after one of the studio dances along with some of the others who decided to go there for some extra dancing. I'm standing and talking with one of the ladies who came along when this young woman passes by me and grabs me at the crotch and I think she did the same to another guy. The next time I see her she is being assisted out the door; just way too much to drink.

Hi,
OMG these are some great stories! Now folks, please tell me which dances in what city feature ladies that tend to lose their tops...just kidding...! :) :P 8)
While I'm still new at dancing I don't have too many weird stories, but there is one I can think of that made me laugh at myself.
A few weeks ago I was getting ready for a private lesson and observed that my teacher was not wearing any dance shoes. While the classes at my main school are pretty formal, another class I take everyone is in socks and no one dresses up at all.
Seeing that my instructor was wearing socks, I thought "oh cool, I can just go really casual today, I don't need my snazzy dance shoes."
I notice she is watching me put my shoes down as I am getting ready, and I look up at her and simply say "Shoes?"
The look on her face was one of those "you had had to be there" moments, and then she says quite humourously "As opposed to what? Are you saying we dance in our socks here?"
Looking down at her "socks" again, I point to them and mention "But you're wearing socks...I thought perhaps I didn't need to put my shoes on."
Laughing at me again, she says "These are ballet slippers...I forgot my regular dancing shoes, but these will work just fine. So put your shoes on!"
At this point I'm laughing, because I finally notice she IS wearing slippers. Needless to say I will not ask that question again! :)

I was at one years ago when one of the ladies lost her skirt; just came undone right on the dancefloor. As an undergarment she was wearing one of those outfits that are commonly worn by women when practicing though; whatever they are called.

That's too funny, but Jenn, really, some of those girls wear their pants so low, I'm surprised they stay on. We were at a dance convention this weekend and I was watching a young girl dancing and you couldn't help but notice that her pants were so low, you could see the top of her underwear. I swear any minutes we were going to be seeing her "cheeks" as more and more of her underwear was showing. Then they did a move where she does an almost sit and she had to grab the back of her pants with her free hand or they would slipped right off.

This didn't happen to me but...
A couple of friends of mine were dancing outside. They were on the beach and it was fairly windy. Follower was wearing a wrap-around skirt. You know what I mean right ladies? Anyhow, since this dancing was sort of a spirit of the moment thing so she obviously didn't have on dance pants of sorts...you can see where this is going.
Anyhow, the leader throws her into a cannonball at which point the tie in her skirt gets caught in his watch. Her whole skirt unties and there she is at the end of the cannonball in her underwear. The leader was really quick and grabbed the skirt to cover her up. It was pretty funny, but I'm sure glad it didn't happen to me. :D

The most embarassing and funniest story I can think of is....
My former dance partner and I were taping a swing routine. Just to see our mistakes. Anyway we got to the part where he was pulling me through his legs from behind. As I bent over to grab his hands he farted in my face!! Needless to say he is no longer my dance partner. :uplaugh:
The funny part was also that we caught this precious moment on tape. We had fun watching over and over again and showing it to all the pros in our studio. We all had a good laugh!! :bouncy:

I typically dance at a small salsa club. Before I got my salsa shoes (about which I just posted my soling woes!) I had a pair of street shoes with a thin t-strap. I was dancing to a fast salsa and all of a sudden my right shoe FLEW off and landed in the corner of the dance floor! I stood there with one shoe on, not knowing what to do! LOL!
A few months ago, a very hard-handed lead grabbed my hand too early and actually bent my thumbnail and it broke (just the white tip, not the whole thing, YOWIE!) - - Um hello, lighten up buddy! It's not a wrestling match!

Some of these stories are so funny!
To add to the half naked women stories.... I was at a Talent show once and there was a couple doing some kind of dance (too long ago to remember) and the girl had a halter top on, In the middle of a spin her top somehow slipped to the side exposing her breast for all to see..and the worst part was she kept dancing oblivious to the fact until her partner pulled her top across for her!
Poor girl!

I can't think of anything too embarrassing. However, once long ago, before I got my dance shoes, I danced in some JC Penney doodads (totally synthetic, including the soles). They were sort of a modified T-strap. Somehow, one shoe just went flying off my foot. Given that I was not doing the can-can at the time, I really don't know how this happened, but, alas, my shoe ended up in the corner of the dance floor by a big potted plant. I had to scurry over there in one shoe between about 18 other gyrating dancers to get it!

Los Salsamanos, Toronto salsa group.
Poor young lady had the strap to her dress break on one shoulder dropping the dress off the brassiere that she was luckily (for her) wearing.
The crowd went silent, waiting for more to happen.
Trooper that she was, she kept on dancing (shine section, so no lead to worry about) and tried to fix the problem by grabbing the strap and pulling over her shoulder.
Yeah I know, no suspense in my story, you've already guessed what happened.
She grabbed her bra by mistake and hauled it wayyyy up exposing her very nicely shaped body.
The crowd went wild and she ran off the floor. Poor girl. She did reappear fully clothed later albeit a little redder.

Personally the worst I have done is split many a pair of trousers whilst doing dips. I usually dress appropriately so the damage isn't so noticeable as it has happened so often

Last week in class I was watching this couple dance and as the guy moved the heel of his shoe stayed in place and he danced away from it. The look on his face as he looked down to see why it felt like he was standing in a hole was priceless!
The shoe was ruined, so he broke the heel of the other one and joined class a few minutes later.
It was pretty funny, but maybe you had to be there...

I made some smart alecky remark... something to the effect of "If you wanted to put your hand up my shirt, all you had to do was ask..."
It was back in the day before I learned not to wear silk when going out dancing. And since it wasn't that expensive of a shirt, it wasn't a big deal. I didn't let it stop me from dancing, especially since it would've taken me an hour to go home and back.
I did, however, go home the one (and only) time I split a pair of pants! Lol!

I was dancing with "Side-show Bob" (this tall guy from UK with big Afro hair) last night. Generally we are SOOOOO not eachother's best dance partners (I am usually struggling a bit with his leads, as he tends to pulls me off balance), but we do dance together once a week or so.
When I raised my left arm for styling (a bit of necessity in this case, as my left arm gets tuck under his right if I didn't get it out), I whacked him across the nose     !
*that's why I try to stay way from styling as much as possible  *

I hear a lot of talk about going to these big events....how would I be able to get to go to these events?
Welcome to the forums!
Depends on which events you're talking about...
If it's a salsa related event, you can just sign up and get yourself a hotel room in whichever city it's being held at. There are lots of congresses all over the place, and I remember seeing several threads talking about them.
Probably the biggest and closest to you is the NYC Congress. Anyeone else have suggestions?
When I raised my left arm for styling (a bit of necessity in this case, as my left arm gets tuck under his right if I didn't get it out),
Hijack alert!
Funny story: there's this one gal that I dance with regularly, and somehow, when she did that exact styling move, her hand ended up on top of my head.
So now we have "a thing". At least one or two times during a song, I'll put her hand on top of my head. We laugh about it a lot.

i'm really ticklish around my ribcage. so in the side-by-side charleston position, sometimes my leads hands go up a bit too high and tickle me. usually i hold in the giggles, but a friend of mine was holding me a bit *too* tight on day in class and i begged him to go lower cause he was tickling the hell out of me. he stopped completely in his tracks, let go of me, burst out laughing and couldn't dance for awhile. after that he kept tickling me - on purpose - every time we got into any sort of closehold position. or he'd move his hand from my back to my side just to poke me. so i'd jab him right back.... dancing with him that day was a sort of tickling war
oh and this other lead was trying to make me turn extra or something by pushing the small of my back. only he mis-aimed and kept whacking my bum. and this happened a few times, since he was obviously hoping i'd get the move at some point and i didn't have a clue what i was supposed to do  . he started looking kind of alarmed (he's really tall so i guess it's hard to see where you're aiming from that altitude) cause it probably looked like i was getting the spanking of my life

 Better be careful with words like "spanking." You never know who will be googling out there, going, "Dancers...spanking...kewl!"

This one was so funny I couldnt contain my laughter and had to remove myself from the dancefloor...
A guy who had been taking the beginner classes maybe 3 weeks was dancing an evening 3 step right in front of me, (a New Vogue dance).
I dont know how he managed it but he slipped and fell flat on his butt, then sort of slid and ended up flat on his back...the hilarious thing was that his feet kept "dancing" .. ie , he was kicking them around in the air, my first impression was that of a dying fly    it made me laugh so hard and as the NV dances move continually around the room I had to do a huge side step around him so I didnt cause a domino effect behind me. I watched in amusement as he sat there with a stunned look on his face, while his partner was trying to get him up, making no effort to get out the way of the other dancers...
It was all too much for me to bear and I had to leave the floor with my partner who was also in absolute hysterics!

my former Salsa instructor and I were trying to show this guy the guapea step from Rueda... and we were doing the step on beat and looking at him that he couldn't get it at all and since we were both looking at him and kept the beat my instructor's had grabbed my breast instead of my left palm!!! God he was embarrassed!!!
And this wasn't the only time it happened!

Last night was CLASSIC!!
I did a particularly ferocious and fun cha-cha with this one woman, and at one point, we broke apart for some "shines" as it were, well wouldn't you know it, this woman breaks out into a HILARIOUS Elaine Benes dancing impersonation while keeping rhythm and yours truly is just HOWLING with laughter I nearly lost my place!
NOTE: For non-Seinfeld watchers, Elaine Benes (played by Julia Louise Dreyfuss) had this, shall we say "UNIQUE" style of dancing that didn't exactly endear her to her cohorts.
But in any case, that is ome cha-cha I will NEVER forget as long as I live! This woman had personality and spunk and then some, great dancer and VERY funny! If ONLY she wasn't married.

Now you've got me cracking up - and it is after midnight here in ahouse full of sleeping ppl.
Can't type cos laughing too much. When we first started salsa we would go over moves individually in a group and do some salsa line dance and i swear this one woman looked JUST like Elaine. I couldnt dance cos i kept cracking up and we were newbies there and these ppl just keep staring at me. I had to keep walking off the dance floor and right out of the room. My partner was sooo embarrassed cos of me. But i swear that dancer had the thumbs, the moves, heck she even dressed like Elaine!!!! And she was so serious about her dancing and (luckily) had no idea I was being so mean (well i couldnt help it - she was the one doing the Elaine impersonations!!). I could only dance as long as I couldnt see her. As soon as I did I just cracked up again
Thank you so much for reminding me so i can get more chuckles out of it.

Then there was this time in class and i was trying to tell the instructor that my partner and i obviously didnt have the move right (salsa) cos each time he spun me back around i was so close i almost hit him. Well instructor said i just had to be more careful and i tried (i really really did) to explain that it really really wasnt right but he couldnt see what i mean (as i showed it in slow-mo with partner) (and partner couldnt see the problem either :? ) So..... I said fine i'll just dance it like this then and when they put the music back on i just did the turn - spin me out, spin me in and whammo :raisebro: , as partner spun me back in, my elbow ummm  sort of wacked him in the face. He and the instructor looked sooo shocked (see i am really mean; my kids call me "queen of mean"). But then they could see what i meant and that there was a problem. which was..... dada....partner was not stepping back as he spun me back in and i had no room to be except literally in his face. If only they had listened......
Yes partner is still dancing with (and married to) me lol. I was just trying to (ahem) better our dancing.
(it was mean & i feel really bad now...but i cant stop laughing again)

This is a great thread!
Ooooh, where do i start....
There was that one time when a good friend of mine dipped me really low, and then brought me up very quickly so that my head snapped. Unfortunately, he was leaning over me while bringing me up...oh, and I forgot the cardinal rule of always keeping my mouth closed while being dipped, so I ended up smacking him in the face with my teeth! I got teased about it forever.
Then I was dancing with my partner at a friend's party. Everyone had a drink or two, and my partner and I were experimenting, and just having fun. He decided to do a "toss your partner between your legs" move, and as he did so, I lost my balance, plopped on my butt and ended up sliding across the floor, flailing my arms trying to stop. To my horror, the flailing found an unsuspecting target, namely, another girl's butt. She was a good friend and just laughed it off, but I was sooooo embarrassed! At least everyone else got a good laugh out of it. :)

Oh, here's another....
We were at a club in San Francisco that played *really* fast techno music. We tried to hustle to it for a while, and when we left the club a guy walked up to us and said, "that was a great salsa!" I don't know what inspired him to see our frenzied hustle as salsa, but it was hilarious! :)

Hubby has reminded me of the time we had been awake for over 24 hrs with one of our teenagers at the hospital but thought well we've been up for so long now we might as well stay up and go dancing anyway.
Got to salsa about 10pm and i had a glass of bubbly and he had a beer ( i should have been worried then cos he only has to sniff alcohol and it goes to his head so easily). Got up to dance and he was sort of wobbling all over the place and i didnt really know why cos i felt fine and just told him to get it together and he was sort of clumping his feet forward and backward and i said "hey maybe you could put a tap in it somewhere" ( he said later he was so tired that he didnt even remember how to do a tap lol or what i meant  ) Then he was all over the place and telling me not to stare at him!!! Eventually i worked out that he was totally past functioning and we sat down but at first i just couldnt work out what on earth he was doing and why he didnt just dance properly.
Just as well everyone knows us there and was not even concerned - they just thought we were mucking around together! After a coffee we managed a reasonable cha cha or something before calling it a night and going home for some obviously much needed sleep.
We still chuckle about it :)

How about the story of the girl dancing a jive when her partner launched her into a series of spins, which happened to co-incide with a near-by couples spins, and she somehow ended up in the arms of the near-by couples shocked lead.

This past weekend I showed up for a social dance just a little early while the beginner lesson was still in session. Sometimes the instructor will ask me be a lead when there are more followers then leads. This time the distribution was off by one, and they were learning basic foxtrot.
The woman I got paired with started telling me what I should be doing as soon as we started, as if I was a brand new person. I just said simply that I had done this before, but she immediately continued telling what I should be doing. She had a typical newcomers frame that was collapsing with every step, and I was about ready to say something when she told me what she thought I was doing wrong again. At that point I just looked at her and said I been dancing for a year and a half, and I compete. She said, "Yes, but we're not doing exactly what they are doing", in reference to a couple that was obviously struggling with what was likely their first foxtrot lesson, too. Luckily I was saved by the music stopping and the lesson coming to an end.
During the social dance this woman stayed and had an opportunity to see what I could really do, and when I asked her to dance there was no more critizism. She even asked me to show her the basic Cha-Cha. ;)

Very recently, I had the very odd experience of dancing with a woman who was a near EXACT replica of Sarah Palin, I kid you not!
Strange and surreal doesn't even begin to describe it.

lol, I went to a Halloween ballroom dance last year, and one lady dressed up as Sarah Palin, as a costume. She wore a red suit, glasses, her hair the same as Sarah's. But it sounds like your recent dance partner's similarity was unintentional. :p
