Hello..
I couldn't find a thread that would answer my question, hopefully I didnt overlook any of them... But anyways.. I'm having the most trouble moving my hips and having my legs not look horrible with the rest of my body as I move them... Ive never really danced before, and I'm planning on giving my boyfriend a lap dance... I've always been shy with dancing, but I know I could do it... But I keep having this problem.
I recorded myself w/ my webcam to see how it looks like and I got extremely upset because I'd love to get really good at it and suprize him like that.
But when I do a simple move like standing infront of him and moving my hips (like a hula hoop, somewhat) and having my legs go with it, the movements don't match at all. Does that make any sense?

When I do that, my legs look out of place and it's ridiculous. I've tried to find videos and everything so I can see how it is done, and it looks extremely easy, but when it comes to me trying how to do it, my legs look crooked with my "hip moving".
I'd just like to move my hips in a 'hula hoop' motion like I've read, and moving them from side to side in a sexy way (especially to hip hop music). I have long legs, and i feel so awkward because Im not sure where to bend my knees or how apart my legs should be.

I'm sorry for such a long thread...I have until December 20th to learn :o
I know I can though..At times I get discouraged, but I just need to learn how to do that... Any sites, articles, tips? ANYTHING would be welcome.

Thank you :)

Natalia

Hi Natalia, and welcome to the Forums! :D

There are a few threads on hip movement in the salsa forum, see  here (http://www.dance-forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=1106&highlight=hips), here (http://www.dance-forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=1180&highlight=hips), and here (http://www.dance-forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=1251&highlight=hips).

As you'll notice, the gyst of them all is that more natural looking hip motions need to be generated via use of the legs.

Hope that helps and, again, welcome! :D

chuey3 - Welcome to the Forum Family!!!!

Hip movement...now you're talking my language. My favorite dance is belly dance which involves a plethora of hip movements, but none I would classify as a "lap dance" type movement.

If you want to learn some exercises which will help stretch, lengthen, and strengthen your hips, check out some belly dance VHS tapes or DVDs. Follow this link for a few video suggestions (I personally like Veena&Neena and Dolphina): http://www.iefit.com/Dance/bellydance.htm

You may also want to try exotic dance videos...I've never tried these, but they might help with what you're looking for: http://www.iefit.com/Dance/exotic-dancing.htm

All the best!
