"Dancing with the Stars 3" is not starting again until the Fall.

"So You Think You Can Dance 2" is starting soon, though.

Already posted it in Season 3 fantasies, but though to post it here too.

Louis was in Holland where he danced a demo with his former partner Julie Fryer in the result show of the second season finale of DwtS (May 14th). After they've danced, he was asked a question or two. He said he had to fly back the day after because he had to start with DwtS's third season!! This means that the third season will probably start end of summer!!

Just read on another forum that DWTS 3 is officially on the fall line-up for Tuesday and Wednesday nights at 8 p.m. No date, as yet. Cheers, everyone; hope you're all keeping well.:D

'Dancing with the Stars' to return this fall, air Tuesday and Wednesday

As expected, ABC has announced that the third edition of Dancing with the Stars, the smash-hit reality ballroom dancing competition that aired its first two editions as summer and midseason programming, will air as part of the network's 2006-2007 fall programming lineup.

Rather than air on the same Thursday/Friday broadcast schedule that its second edition used, Dancing with the Stars' third season will move to an American Idol-like midweek schedule (fitting given its Idol-like ratings growth) in which its performance and results shows will air on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 8PM ET/PT. Despite the move to the more competitive Wednesday night time period, Dancing with the Stars 3's live results shows will retain the same full-hour variety show-type format that they ended up adopting during the course of last season's Friday night broadcasts.

There is going to be a tv show on ABC (I want to say next week, but I'll find out) that is going to have snippets for the fall line-up, including DWTS.

god i am such a ****ing addict. first thing i thought of when i saw the new schedule was 'how does this compare with my lesson schedule.' as in, how can i twist my life even further into knots to make sure i can see it!

does anyone else anticipate another insane upward tick in dance quality compared to last season? the difference between seasons 1 and 2 was astronomical... can that degree of improvement realistically happen again?

mamboqueen

I think it depends on who they get....but yeah, I don't see the level of competitiveness and training going down. I think celebrities who now are hawking to be on the show are probably wanting to *win* before they even know who they'll be partnered with. I mean, every week they stay on is another 15 minutes of fame for them....

I was dancing with one of the instructors last night. And because I had been gone for a while, they told me that our night to promote Swing at our local club had been changed for Wednesday! I was like how am I going to be there and watch DWTS at the same time? The cool thing is that the club of course has two really huge LCD televisions on their walls! So, maybe I can talk to my instructor and have him tell the owner to switch the channel to ABC lol! ;)

I saw a huge difference, but maybe that's because ABC was smart when it came time to listen to it's viewers! You can tell a difference by the ratings from first season to second season. ;)

Actually, I didn't like Lisa Canning. She came off a bit I don't know cocky or something. I meant that I liked the latest co-host they had even though I never really knew her name lol. I thought that she was fun and pretty and she even tried to Ballroom Dance herself! I thought that she was a pretty good dancer. ;)

Her being in the studio is not a rumor, but could it have anything to do with dancing with the stars? That is pure speculation.

Mario Lopez as in "Saved by the Bell"? ...or am I thinking of somebody else?

Vivica A. Fox...played Will Smith's SO in Independence Day, right?

Harry Hamlin would be cute. It would be neat to see the role reversal with Lisa Rinna in the audience cheering him on every week.

Please, say it isn't true. This woman has chronic "wardrobe malfunctions". ABC will have to be on a 7-second delay.

On an upnote, she would be wearing more clothing on the show than in everyday life.

Another positive would be that she sorely needs a dance coach and this might be her chance to get it. She has no rhythm whatsoever.

And she'd be trying to figure out why her Manolo's weren't working well on the floor. She'd be off fairly soon, dontcha think? I don't think most people could stomach her, and I doubt there are people who would take up the "Save Paris" movement. I just can't see it!

I'm not a Paris fan, but I think she'd be good for DWTS.

Simple Life showed/s her willing to make a fool of herself, get a bit dirty, play up tp to the camera..she'd have no problem wearing dance shoes and would love playing dress up for the performances.

She may be a terrible dancer, we don't know. But there are enough people fascinated (whether love or hate) to bring the ratings up even more. She's actually pretty good for entertainment value in front of a camera that she could be a good addition.

That's if she returns that is! She said that her career was over if Master P lost lol. It will be interesting to see if she comes back. I think that she's to young for the show personally. She just hasn't had the kind of experience you need when it comes to dealing with people. You get that with age I think. Wasn't she the youngest one on there? I mean professional wise?

My instructor has a friend that had been asked to be on the show for season 2. She's beautiful too, and she would be good in front of the cameras. But she said that she wanted to work on her career. I remember reading Cheryl's bio on her website and she had just turned 21 shortly before being cast for DWTS. So, age-wise (and not counting experience in the professional ballroom world), she's the youngest. There's no mention of her coming back for season 3 on the site but I hope that she does.

I think that what it was for me was that Cheryl seemed so mature for her age whereas Ashly did not. Ashly still had a lot of growing up to do, so that made her seem younger I guess in my opinion.

Well, I haven't been married or anything, but that doesn't mean that you are officially grown up if you do become married etc. in my opinion. And I've had a tougher life than Ashly, but that doesn't mean that I have learned everything by my age even. But sometimes you just know when to act and say things like what we were talking about in another post, and to me Ashly has not learned this. I don't think that she was ready to be on television, because of that reason. But again, that's my opinion... and I'm sticking to it lol! ;)

How long has Cheryl been a pro? I think Andrea's been pro for quite awhile (it would have to be at least 5 or so years now, wouldn't it?).

Laura
06-20-2006, 06:28 PM
Cheryl turned pro to dance with Jose DeCamps. She stopped dancing with her last amateur partner, Soren Hougaard, in 2004. Dancesportinfo.net says she started with Jose in January of 1990, but that is completely wrong.

Andrea couldn't have been pro for five years -- she danced in the IDSF world 10 dance much more recently than that, and was in Amateur comps with David Semken in 2004. She might have been teaching for the past five years, but she was still officially an amateur.

I heard a while ago that the Stars and Pros would start working together in August, in preparation for the show to start sometime in September. Do you have any more specific or up-to-date details than that?

Actually, they start sometime next week or in two weeks. That's all I'd like to say.

I'm a good friend of Louis, in fact, we went out for dinner earlier this week in NYC, and yes, Dancing with the stars III is coming soon. Really soon. Enjoy!

Ok, I know I have a picture of Max in my avatar, but Louis is also very hot!!! :raisebro:

Can Val maintain his amateur status whilst doing this? I understand there are rules for amateurs teaching, but this to me is really a "professional" gig.

Ithink
07-21-2006, 10:34 AM
Maybe this is a sign that Val might be turning pro soon? If he's auditioning, it might be also a clue that one of the celebrities will be a young girl (maybe like a Hilary Duff or someone) because I doubt they'd pair Val with with an older lady since he's so young...

mamboqueen
07-21-2006, 10:39 AM
Hmm...I was wondering if perhaps Max changed his plans and offered Val up in his stead...but I shouldn't speculate (shame on me!). I hate to see Val go pro at such an early age. Clearly, they have the am title coming their way...sooner or later.

Doesn't Val have elite status? Maybe he can do the show and still remain amateur. The show calls the ballroom dancers "professionals," so if you agree to be on that show, whether your elite or not, I think you're going to be considered Pro in the end because the show is going to keep saying "XYZ with his/her pro partner..." By accepting a job on a show that pairs celebrities with Professional ballroom dancers would mean you're declaring yourself a professional, which automatically converts you in the eyes of both USA Dance and the NDCA.

Yeah, but is that because of the number of dances that you dance in the show though? Because I've been noticing at competitions that you can't dance this or that category until you've danced this number of dances.

Yeah, but is that because of the number of dances that you dance in the show though? Because I've been noticing at competitions that you can't dance this or that category until you've danced this number of dances.Hmm, I'm not sure what you mean by number of dances, but the definition of being a pro has nothing to do with times you've danced/competed... it can be a simple as calling yourself a Pro. Examples of calling yourself a Pro could be having a website where you say that you're "professional" on it, you compete in a professional competition, you dance as the Pro in a pro-am partnership, or in the case of the TV show, you accept a job with a TV show that's based on pairing professional dancers with celebrities.

Maybe the numbers thing you're refering to is the competition point system? The point system only exists to prevent people from dancing down in lower levels that they don't belong. At any time, couples can just decide when they want to dance up at a higher level (whether that be pro or amateur), but if they place well in that higher level, the point system can prevent them from dancing down again in the future (depending on the size of the event, because there have to be enough couples there).

Maybe that example of number of dances you saw was at a non-NDCA/non-USAdance event (i.e. collegiate)? Oh, and one that that WILL keep you from dancing up is if you're registered in a lower division at a comp, because they usually only let you dance one (or two) levels higher than the lowest level you're in (for example, if you registered for Novice, you can do PreChamp, too, but you can't do Championship all at the same event).

Maybe I don't remember how many they had last year, but didn't they have six female pros and six male pros? So, they would definitely need more pros if that is the case.

I wish the show aired more!!! Like I wish they had a summer season and a winter season. Maybe the summer season could deal with other dances besides Ballroom, and the winter season could deal with Ballroom dances?

Will Joey Lawrence Be the Next Stacy Keibler?

With the power to make household names out of relative unknowns like Kelly Monaco and Stacy Keibler and to reignite the careers of dwindling wattage celebs like Lisa Rinna and John O'Hurley, getting cast on "Dancing with the Stars" has become the hottest ticket in Hollywood.

TMZ has learned that retired NFL running back Emmitt Smith and former child star Joey Lawrence are the latest "stars" to jump aboard the ABC groove train and will shake their moneymakers on the TV juggernaut this fall.

While ABC won't confirm the final roster, Vivica A. Fox has gone on record saying she has already been cast.

And rumors have swirled that former "Saved by the Bell" star Mario Lopez and Mr. Lisa Rinna himself, Harry Hamlin, will also be on hand to Cha Cha Cha into America's living rooms.

Check out the latest Mambo kings and queens when the new season of "Dancing with the Stars" premieres on September 12.

UPDATE:
TMZ has just learned that Shanna Moakler from MTV's "Meet the Barkers" has been added to the lineup.

It seems that we could open a Dance Forums detective agency with all the information we've already found out about the next season of DWTS.

There aren't but a few "Stars" that haven't already been named but it will be fun to find out for sure. I'm hoping I can access ABC's website from work since I won't be home in the morning to see it and access to DF is blocked. D'oh! I need a Backberry...

The GMA announcement was rather lame. Too much focus on giving some basic info by Lisa Rhinna on the first six to see if the GMA folks could guess the names of the stars, and then they rushed the last five names.

Rhinna seemed so ditzy, and she is going to be the co-host while her husband Hamlin is on the show? Who the heck dreamed that up? If Rhinna behaves like she did on GMA, it could be a long season having to listen to her.

I suspect that the time committment to the show was taking a lot away from their own competitive dancing careers. It's not an easy schedule to do the show -- you basically are taking a two or three month break from your own training schedule to do it.

Last year, Drew Lachey (formerly of the boy band Ninety-eight Degrees) and his partner took home the title. The season before, local native Kelly Monaco was caught in a fierce competition with former Seinfeld co-star John O'Hurley. Monaco won at the end of the regular season, but O'Hurley won a special dance-off competition.

SARA EVANS -Country Music Award-winning and top-selling singing sensation. Sara will dance with Tony Dovolani, who partnered with Stacy Keibler in the second season.

WILLA FORD -Singing sensation and self-professed "bad girl of pop." Professional dancer Maxsim Chmerkovskiy, who teamed up with Tia Carrere last season, will be her professional dance partner.

MARIO LOPEZ -Actor and TV host. He will be partnered with professional dancer Karina Smirnoff, who makes her series debut.

SHANNA MOAKLER -National beauty queen, actress, model and reality television star. Professional dancer Jesse DeSoto joins the cast for the first time this season as her partner.

I doubt that Emmett will have the bad attitude of P - people felt sorry for Ashly more because she was stuck with a jerk than because she was stuck with a bad dancer.

The show is shown live on the east coast at 8pm Eastern, and tape delayed on the west coast at 8pm Pacific. Therefore, the people on the east coast see it three hours earlier than those on the west. DWTS tapes at 5pm in California.

Just as an aside, this is another reason that I'm glad I live in Ohio now.

1) Big dance events nearby.
2) Eastern Time Zone.

Do you guys have any idea how hard it is to keep track of watching this show/discussing it here from the Mountain time zone?? ;-)

How about me? I live here in California, and I have to wait three hours to see anything that you've seen. Last year when I went down to watch, we watched the show, and then went back to the hotel and watched it again on TV. So all those kids on American Idol do the show, and then watch it that same night when it's played back on the Pacific feed.

Sounds like a GREAT cast that should pull in LOTS of people who wouldn't normally watch a dancing show! Springer, Carlson, and Emmitt Smith have huge followings of people who would not normally be watching ballroom! I like it!

I'm very confused that some people connected Master P to Emmitt Smith rather than Jerry Rice. What in the world do Master P and Emmitt Smith have in common? From everything I've ever read, Emmitt Smith is one of the class acts of the NFL with a great work ethic. He may indeed be too beat up to dance as well as he could have a few years back, but I think we can count on him having a good attitude.

So excited for this show!!!

Funny, I just rewatched 1981 fantasy classic "Clash of the Titans" last week. Heh.

Yeah! And much like SYTYCD, each group would have to demonstrate proficiency in a pre-determined variety of styles . . . say, rock, hip-hop, country, latin, pop, and metal?

They could draw the song title/artist out of one hat, and the style in which they have to perform it out of another . . .

Actually, is it just me, or could that work?

Dancing scares me

I like to be afraid. That’s why I enjoy working in live TV, where every day brings the potential for public self-immolation. And that’s why I agreed to compete on this season of “Dancing with the Stars.” The idea scared me. Other than the drunken hokey pokey at the occasional rehearsal dinner, I’ve never been much of a dancer.

Aug. 15, 2006 | 12:32 p.m. ET (http://msnbc.msn.com/id/11961531/#060815a)

Answers to your burning questions
(Bill Wolff, Vice President of Primetime Programming for MSNBC)

MSNBC World Headquarters is abuzz beyond its normal news-obsessed hum.
The reason: The announcement yesterday that our own Tucker Carlson will compete this fall on the popular reality-competition-entertainment show “Dancing with the Stars.” Like most people in our business, people around MSNBC watch a lot of TV (not all of it news). After the blush of excitement about Tucker’s impending turn on a primetime network reality show, most folks had lots of questions. Here are the ones we can print (along with the answers we can print).

Q: Did Tucker call the show or did the show call Tucker?

A: They called Tucker. Are you serious? Do you think he secretly pines to dance in a costume in front of millions of people? They called him.

Q: What dance is Tucker going to do?

A: I’m not at liberty to say.

Q: Is management okay with Tucker doing “Dancing with the Stars?”

A: Yes. Tucker is a great guy. Anybody who works with him every day would attest to that. “DWTS” isn’t about political perspective or disagreements about world news; it’s for fun, and it will be, we all think, a chance for a big audience to see what a good sport and charming person Tucker is. Plus, we all want to see if he can dance.

Q: Do you think Tucker can actually dance?

A: Sure. Yeah. Absolutely. Why not? I don’t know. He’s working on it.

Q: Is he excited about doing the show?

A: Which show?

Q: “Dancing with the Stars!”

A: Yes. He is some form of excited about “DWTS.” He is ALWAYS excited to do his show (every day at 4 PM and 6 PM ET on MSNBC). That’s incontrovertible fact.

Q: What’s he going to wear?

A: Nobody knows. We’re all hoping for a ruffled shirt, big nasty cuffs, and spandex in any form. What I can report without fear of contradiction is that Tucker has been issued a pair of black jazz shoes (what used to be known as Capezios). Upon seeing him with the Capezios in the office, the staff responses ranged from “Capezios?!” to “Ha!” to “Dude!! Capezios!!”

Q: How’s he getting ready?

A: This whole thing is no joke. Tucker’s working out (well, you know, learning how to dance) for hours every morning. He does his morning work on his own show with his staff in between practice sessions. It takes some serious discipline (and mental acuity) to go from learning to dance with a stranger to processing all the news in an incredibly important, extremely busy moment in the news business.

There are other questions bouncing around the building, but this is a family news Web site, and some things are better left unsaid. The one thing everyone talks about is the chance that Tucker will succeed. How will he do?

Though there is no gambling allowed at MSNBC, the unofficial commissary odds makers have Tucker as a live long shot. (Off the record, I’ve got him in a 2-dollar trifecta box with Harry Hamlin and Vivica A Fox)

Check out the comment from Willie Geist later on the page:
I've had some pretty awful dance partners in my life, but no amount of experience could have prepared me for the unspeakable horror I witnessed when I stepped onto the dance floor with Tucker Carlson. Tucker is a legitimately great man and a good friend, but when he dances, he’s not only an embarrassment to himself and his family, but a living, breathing affront to rhythm and movement in space. I’m not saying I’m Fred Astaire, but Tucker dances like he’s just been tasered after leading police on a high-speed chase.
Should be entertaining, I guess...

How about odds for first celebrity to get the ax from the show? I'm thinking Tucker Carlson is a likely favorite, followed by Jerry Springer. Although, I'd like to see Jerry Springer stick around long enough to do a waltz or foxtrot. Put him in tails, and he might surprise us all.

I have a strong suspicion that she wants to break out of the country music scene and become better known to the general public. This is a good way to do it. Also, being a "niche celebrity," she's going to have a nice built-in fanbase pulling for her.
