Colds

Here's a good question for dance students, but especially teacher, out there. What do you do when you have a cold. Especially teachers, because they often don't have the option to not dance. So what do yu to to help yourself get well, and keep others from getting sick?

Lots of rest, and I ensure that I don't go at it with the same vigour as I usually do, meaning not as much dancing.

The hygiene advice is really good. It grosses me out when I see people sneezing and then offering the same hands to a partner etc... Yuck!!!

I've seen students show up, running fevers, but then stay several feet back from everyone else and out of the partner rotation...but they still want to be there to keep up with the new material being introduced.

Mind you, I've also seen sick students come in and hug others hello and then, when asked how they're doing, say "oh, I'm really sick." :x

If your a student and your sick stay home. Its really inconsiderate not to. I've had situations where I've been off sick for a week bc another student in a college class decided to still turn up regardless. She didn't consider that her decision has further implications that her feeling lousy.

If I know far enough in advance, I cancel my lessons. But if I can't cancel, like right before a performance, I take my tissues (and a large plastic bag to dispose of them) and I use antibacterial hand sanitizer lotion several times during the lesson, and always after sneezes.

I actually don't really get sick!! I've been lucky. :)

well I guess if its just your private then your only getting one person sick but I never go to group classes if I'm sick. There are some ppl in my class who are lucky enough to to still be fit and active at a certain age and I dont want to spoil that for them.

That's not really true tasche, because even if you don't get your instructor sick there's still a good chance that you could end up transmitting it to any/all of their other students... :(

I left out frequent washing of hands in very warm water, using paper towels, not a blow dryer, to dry. The antibacterial lotion says it kills 99 point something percent of germs, but just in case, it can't hurt to actually wash your hands. :)
