Going!!!...
We were at the Maryland Dancesport this week-end and feeling so good this afternoon about no NY bridge traffic and making it home in time to get the "DOG" from the kennel we decided to do the 5 hours ride again...
Love Reston!!... We will dance amatuar on Sunday... How about you guys???

We will likely be doing Pro/am Standard Closed Gold and/or Open Silver
Do they have a Closed Gold scholarship?

well, we are working on silver smooth but if you have noted the other threads, it is unlikely that we will be ready by then....so probably full bronze standard, smooth and rhythym pro/am..this will sort of be my one year anniversary of dancing....anyhow, looking forward to it

Do you have the pricing list by any chance?
I think this is one of those comps where you have to ask for it from the organizer. They'll give it to you if you're an amateur, but it's stupid that you have to ask.

I checked the website - the pricing is on-line for the amateurs (bottom of the Amateur Dancers page). The good news - there are two $1,000 amateur scholarships (Youth Standard and Youth Latin). The bad news - the top amateurs don't get to dance in the evening.
I think all amateur events will take place on Sunday and wrap up by 6pm on Sunday. That's my understanding. Geez, why can't they distribute a bit of $1000 Youth scholarship to Adult Open Championship? We must be chopped liver. :)
Laura
06-24-2006, 01:14 AM
I understand the sentiment, swan, but how these things have worked in my experience is that someone donates the money for the scholarship and specifically says which events they want it given out for. I guess someone was feeling really supportive of the Youths this time around. So yeah, what are you adults, chopped liver? :)

I sure was glad to see that they posted the entry costs on line. I was having a hard time getting the pricing. There is however an inconsistancy in the forms....
On the entry forms the shows Sr II as 50 and older yet on the Amateur page they show the age for Sr II as 60 and older. Has anyone asked the organizer which one is correct?

I would think the cheapest way would be the chinatown bus. I think it's something like $35 round trip between NY and DC. The drawback is that they only run a couple of times/day, so if something goes wrong with the bus or you miss it, you're SOL. Unlike greyhound where if you miss the bus, there's another one coming in about 5 minutes.
Once you get into chinatown in DC, you can take the metro to West Falls Church, and then a local bus to Reston Town Center. You can look up which bus on wmata.com.
It's a long trip that way, but definitely the cheapest way to go. Make sure you get a bus transfer before you get off the metro so you don't have to pay again.

In case you had not received an answer otherwise to this question (not wanting to be redundant or too obvious), I believe that the first one you listed is Pro/Am (dancesport series) and the second one is strictly Amateur.

This comp is interesting from the point of view that the amatuer heats are on Sunday (morning?). It may actually work out well for some East Coast competitors juggling commitments, but I don't think this helps to pull in those from a distance who might enjoy competing in the evenings.
I might be going, not sure yet.

I believe the price is $50. I'll there tonight competing and spectating.
I got a chance to meet fascination at last. She was very kind to Shelley and I we hung out will her and some people from Chicago.
I think fascination is competing around 7:30 tonight, and then Shelley and I are up a heat or two later.
We are in the Open Pro-Am A Standard Championships. We are up against some dancers that have been competing a lot longer than us, but we hope to at least make a good showing.
Amateur standard at 11:20 and latin at 12:20.
Don't know if the times have been posted already but it sucks to have a comp this early in the morning.

We drove also, and never never again... We are in Ct and it should of been no more than 6 hours... got caught up in NY traffic coming home... We left the comp at 11:45 AM, got home at midnight. Thats a lot of traffic for 4 dances(well 8 really, due to the grouping)
However the excitement for us is that we had more competition in Smooth than in International standard...This is happening more often now, tides are changing, I think.... Now if only I could get the smooth routines to the point that our smooth dancing is not a complete bomb!
I learned a lesson at this comp... You cannot go on vacation, come back, minimal practice, and attempt to dance new routines and expect it to all be ok... And it is crazy to do a six hour drive Saturday night, dance 4 dances and then do another 10+ drive home.
Live and learn.... Still, for some reason is one of my favorite comps to go to.
