The plan: I combine a visit to my folks in Florida with a Sylvia Sykes/Jason Christodolou swing weekend, or so I thought. I arrived this morning, on the redeye, to find out that Sylvia is injured and the workshop is canceled. Eek. Damn.

Agony: there is absolutely nothing I can do about it. Even if they had notified me before I left, the airfare was nonrefundable. So here I am, visiting my folks, so disappointed that I won't get the intensive I was so eagerly anticipating.

I will go to the social dances Friday and Saturday, and Sunday if they have it, and then go home.

Love these spiritual challenges life keeps throwing at me...have been successful at keeping that tantruming voice of mine (it's not FAIR!) quiet, and have been pretending to be good humored about the whole thing. Fact is it's not fair, it sucks, and another fact is the only thing that makes sense is to make the best of it. Enjoy the time off, the warm weather, my parents, and -- here's a radical concept -- a little rest.

Thanks for listening.

Sue

Hiya Sue...you definitely have my sympathies! I've had similar things happen too...definitely not fun. All I can offer is think of it this way...you're not the one who was injured *and* you're somewhere in your life, and doing something you enjoy, such that this even represents a problem. If that isn't a blessing in the big picture, what is?

You've got my sympathies Sue. Sometimes you feel bad when you are disappointed...it's almost like that let down when you are a kid and you find out that Santa isn't real. I can definitely understand why you are feeling that way. But like SD said, you have your health and you are doing something you love. Also, I try to think that things always happen for a reason. Maybe this visit is *supposed* to be really for you and your parents to spend some time together. You never know. :)

When we look forward to something a lot and we cannot do it at the last moment it is a big disappointment. :(

BUT...

Some social dancing, seeing the parents, some rest, warm weather. Sounds pretty good to me. :) Me, I'm shivering here!!! Brrr!!!!

I had a lovely day today. The dance tonite was okay. Small crowd, hard dance floor (not wood). And some people smoked in the dance! First time I've ever seen that. Besides these small drawbacks, I met and danced with some awesome dancers and had fun.

And am pleased that four leads (good dancers all) told me I was a good dancer and a good follow.

Yay.

Visiting with my folks is going great. It feels good to be able to help them out a bit and to hang out.

You have my sympathies. It's never fun when things don't go as planned. Sometimes though, it can turn out to be a blessing in disguise. I hope the rest of your weekend picks up and turns out to be a blessing.

Enjoy the time with family and the new dancers you're meeting at the socials. Keep us updated on how everything pans out.

Any qord on when there might be another Sylvia Sykes workshop? Does she have a web page/calendar? Maybe this can be a treat for you sometime next year.
