This is a serious question here, folks. I have two great dancer teachers, and I'd like to get each of them a dance related gift. Do you have any ideas of good gifts to get for a great dance teacher? I have nineteen days.

Either go the dance route with a gift certificate for some dance supplies or, if you know some of their personal interests, maybe take that direction instead...

Try this for one of them:

http://www.allaboutdance.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/accessories/1/KeyChainBallroom.jpg

It isn't expensive, and is kinda cute...

I want that and this:

http://www.allaboutdance.com/Merchant2/graphics/bags/CA48.jpg

But I bet you want the shoe bag too, LOL!

I have this totally cool Italilan crystal statue of dancers that I got at Ross ($19.95). You may try checking there because they get decorative stuff with dancers on it all the time. I got our coach a Jack Vettriano print last year and he loved it so much he redecorated the studio around it (and bought the rest of the series). You can get Jack Vettriano and Bill Brauer dance prints at Prints Plus! at the mall. They are also available at Michael's craft stores and TARGET of all places. I saw little Bill Brauer prints at Target - they were mounted on wood and were not expensive.

Hope that helps!

I found these two websites suggested on another bulletin board. I'm sharing, because I suspect I'm not the only one looking to buy/receive dance gifts this holiday season. Diwali and Eid are past, but Channukkah, Winter Solstice, Christmas, Kwanzaa, and Three Kings Day are right around the corner! :D

Thanks for the sites and tips . . . great ideas.

Side note: Because we follow and believe in Feng Shui and needed something "red" on our most southeast walls, we purchased a large version of that exact picture for that wall in our MBR. We've subsequently finished off that room with the rest of the pictures from that series - six in all!

I believe that there are two Jack V prints not being shown . . . one of a Tango dancer and a lady - the one where his left hand is grabbing her right boob in a move, and the other is a guy and lady doing Salsa . . . I may have them reversed, but there are two more prints!

Those are by Bill Bruaer.... My coach was thinking about hangin them elsewhere in his studio, but thought they might be considered too "racy". I told him to hang them in the bathrooms, LOL

And his hand isn't exactly on her boob........

OK, DM . . . thanks for the update . . . although Bruaer doesn't ring a bell with me, and it was my wife who thought we shouldn't put that one print in "our" bedroom because he had his hand on her boob . . . I'll pass on that others agreed with me

On a side note... Anyone ever notice that the dancing banan dances exactly on time to Will SMith's song "Freak This"? It's and R&B banana....

I really really prefer "Nina" - it's the shortened version of my given name... Which you wouldn't want to type... 8)

Now I have a red PT Cruiser.... 8) I'm still stylin' adn I have a sun-roof...

How do you like that PT? My wife wants one . . . a red or black one with the "woody" sides. I'm trying to talk her into the turbo model.

My Crusier is the best car I have ever owned - even above my sportscar.

It has enough zip without the turbo.... If you get one, go for the whole enchilada - leather seats and all. I have a limited edition maxed with the sunroof, luggage rack, etc. The only things I love more than my car are my family and dancing. 8)

The woody version looks ridiculous on *most* colors. Black or white for the woody. But red is the best. I paid an extra $200 for the red paint. It's the only color that costs extra, but dangit all if I'm moving up from a red concertible, the least I can get is another red car.

The turbo is actually a little over-powered for the size. I might wait for the convertible model if you really want a stylish one, heheheh. http://www.chrysler.com/ptcruiserconvertible/img/top_car.jpg

I'm a regluar PT evangelist. I've told everyone I know about how great they are. If I were to move up to a new sporier car, I'd get the Crossfire.

PT Crusier info: http://www.chrysler.com/pt_cruiser/features/models_options/limited_edition.html?context=pt_cruiser-features-models_options-index&type=modelsub

Color choices: http://www.chrysler.com/pt_cruiser/features/exterior_features/index.html?context=pt_cruiser-features-models_options-gt&type=left

I like what Henry Ford had to say about car colors... They can come in any color as long as they are black. Heheheheheh :car:

Yeow . . that's nice. Red is my favorite, but it's been several cars since I've owned a red one . . . black was the color of my latest, and I have a new Silverado in pewter. As soon as my wife gets hers (her turn) then I get to get mine . . . have no idea what I want . . it will be a convertible though, that I do know!

Yes, and red in color, although cobalt blue looks great!

Back on topic (assuming you all don't mind ) the folding ballroom shoe brush could be a really great little gift for the dancers on your holiday list . . . check it out here, including a holiday coupon code for $3 off and free S&H  folding ballroom shoe brush (http://www.dance-forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=271).

Did anybody mention that shoes make great gifts?

Sales/discounts that I know of are at dancevision.com, parti-time.com, carmensdanceshoes.com. Plus showtime has its usual special buys page where you can find some great bargains. :D

Yesterday night a girl gave brownies/cookies (I'm guessing that's what they are as they were gift cookie tins) to our latin dance instructors.. Hmm...Do any of you do that? I usually make something for christmas gifts as I am against the crass commercialization of Christmas and hate participating in and promoting it by buying stuff. It takes a little extra time to make either savories or sweets depending on what people like (nothing like you have even seen in stores of course, quasi-traditional..), hand made cards...I think that this is worth it. :)

pygmalion
12-17-2003, 01:17 PM
Let's hear it for crass commercialization!  Just kidding, Sagitta. I know what you mean. And since I also celebrate Kwanzaa, I make handmade gifts for that -- cookies, cheesecakes (I make a MEAN cheesecake!), etc.

My dance teachers last year were struggling financially, because they were near the bottom of the franchise food chain, so I spent a little more money on them, not to add to the commercialization of Christmas, but because it was an excuse to help them out. I gave my two main teachers dance shoes, because they obviously couldn't afford them (based on the appearance of the shoes they were wearing).

But I know what you mean. Christmas and other holidays, especially religious ones, lose a lot of meaning if you focus on the commercial, rather than the sacred.

I didn't read all the way through to see if anyone mentioned this, but art.com has a large selection of ballroom/latin/swing/salsa/flamenco/tango/etc. art. (Including Bill Brauer's "The Gold Dress", which is one of my favorites and is currently residing on my living room wall. :))

But yeah - lots of artists (Vetriano, Renoir, Brauer, etc), vintage prints . . . good dance gift stuff.

Thanks. I'll check it out. I don't seem to remember anyone posting that before. 8)

I got a crystal figurine of a couple doing tango as a gift from a dance teacher last year -- really nice, but I couldn't find it anywhere on the web. That would be a really nice gift to buy in quantity and give to students. 8) It looked reasonably priced, but was still nice enough to display.

Also, dancingart.com has (in addition to art) a gift section with mugs, keychains, figurines, and things of that sort.
