Just curious -- because I suspect we have some serious dance devotees on this site. How far would you drive for your regular weekly or more-often than weekly dances or lessons? And would you drive further for special events?

It depends, so cannot really answer the poll. For instance, for a really good teacher with whom I am learning a lot and having fun, further away then just a good teacher, on a regular basis. I've driven over 15 mi on a regular weekly basis to practice with a dance partner. The more special the event the further I'll drive. :)

It totally depends on the event & teacher(s) in question.

Actually, I've been lucky. Both of my teachers are less than seven miles from my house. But for dances and nightclub dancing, I drive anywhere between fifteen and fifty miles, fairly often. It's worth it if there's going to be dancing. :D For regular several-times-a -week classes and lessons, I'd prefer something as close as possible, just to fit it into my schedule.

I drive 65 miles several times a week! See, that's why I said that danceaholic quiz didn't ask the right questions!!

I have taken buses and driven across entire continents to dance. I have also walked half a block to dance. I don't live in one place too long, so it all depends upon the situation. I don't really go to events, so I don't know about that one. Right now, I drive a lot.

Our favorite (weekly) place is about 77 miles . . . our closet place (monthly dance) is 9 miles . . . our longest drive is 8 hours - from Modesto to San Diego for 2, sometimes 3 events a year.

You ask why??? Simple . . .
We always take an extra vacation day and catch Magic Mountain and Disneyland :bouncy:

My regular lessons are about 7 miles away. But each weekend (hopefully) I drive up to 50 miles away for socials.

I got tired of spending so much time on driving, so I moved closer to the center of action
My studios are 15 minutes away, and driving to my favorite clubs takes me less than 20 minutes... And the closest one is just 3 blocks away!

Are you saying that you actually moved your place of residence to get closer to your dancespots? 8) :D That takes dedication to a whole new level. :notworth:

I think I pass at least two dance studios on my way to champion ballroom, 16 miles from where I live :D

I drive 75 miles - 3 times/week... that's a lot of miles and a lot of time. It's a good thing I get 40 miles/gallon on my car!!

Welcome MNSwing. :) I'm guessing you're a swing dancer? Any car dancing while driving all those hours and all those miles? :)

Hey, Jenn...while my studio is only about 20 minutes from home (I think I answered the wrong one in the poll), I would drive as far as necessary to get to an event I wanted to attend.

Distance doesn't really faze me. I'm lucky my studio is so close, but despite it being only about 18 kms (about 12 miles), I do the drive back and forth between four and five times a week, which sends the rate sky-high!!! So, like many DFers, dedication is my middle name!!! :)

While in CT I've never gone to a dance less than 40 minutes away.

Sacramento is a lot faster to get around!

Yeah... That's a benefit of being single - moving wherever you want whenever you want 8)

Wow. This is a dedicated group. I didn't realize how spoiled I am, living in a town with much, much dancing within a short drive. :D

I used to drive 10 miles or so from home to dancing, but the distance wasn't really the problem. The problem was that I had to cross the Bay Bridge, and that 10 mile trip could sometimes take 1 1/2 hours, depending on traffic.

It's better now, the largest local ballroom dance is only about 3 miles from home, and the swing dances are about the same, but in a different direction.

Starting in January I'm going to be hosting dances in two nearby cities, one is about 35 miles, the other about 45 from home.

The farthest I've traveled? Probably Montreal, about 2-2 1/2 hours away.

Monday's class is 45 miles away. Tues. dance class is in town, 10 mins. away. Most Wednesday is country dancing 45 miles away. One monthly dance is 60 miles away. Another monthly Sat. dance takes us at least 1 1/2 hrs to get to. We're driving fools. We've driven to Tahoe, 5 hrs. away and Fresno, I think is 3 hrs. away for dance conventions. We're in the car alot.
