Hiya, folks...does anyone know of any hard research done or being done into the effects of dancing (preferably ballroom, but any dancing) on the body versus sports?

I'm after reserach that has show things like, a 3-minute round of latin is equivalent to a 200-metre dash or some such, but it all has to be verifiable, not just anecdotal.

The closest I've heard about was an article in the Journal of the American Medical Association sometime last year, which quantified the physical effects of dancing. Should be simple enough to correlate that with the effects of sports. I've also seen quite a few calorie expenditure tables by sport/discipline, and most include dancing.

Thanks, Jenn...am doing a big Google session right now, will post my findings! :)

Of course, we all know the effects and how much hard work and stamina it requires...but try convincing "THEM" (the outside world) of that... :)

Then, of course, there's all the discussion about the idea that dance IS a sport. I'm sure there are lots of article about that, particulary in light of all the Olympics uproar.
