View Full Version : Rhinestones: Mixing Korean & Swarovski?

I have a dress that is lightly stoned with Korean rhinestones (rookie mistake--never again). But I like the dress. I was thinking about adding some real stones. There would be places where the two kinds of stone would be next to one another, though the Koreans are all crystal and the others would all be other colors. Would that look OK, do you think, or is the dress a total loss?

If they come off relatively easily, peel those puppies off. If not, if there aren't that many of them, they should blend in fairly well with higher-quality stones. I have one of Katarzyna's old gowns and it's heavily stoned with all different qualities of rhinestones. Still looks good.

Like Cocoa Puffs, accept no substitute for "the real deal"... Swarovskis taste much better than Korean stones.

Never heard of Korean stones. Whats the difference?

Korean stones are super cheap and utterly unsparkly. I think they're not rhinestone at all (maybe plastic?).

I'd also peel em off, if at all possible. Getting the dress wet might do the trick if the glue they used was water soluble.

I think they are glass, but they don't show up on the floor at all.

I did this with my dresses. I peeled off some of original Korean stones, but some were too stubborn so I left them as they were. Then I added about 6 gross of Preciosa/Swarovski stones to each of my dresses. It looks good.

I have some pictures here: http://public.fotki.com/tsmt1001/dance_stuff_2006/

before I did the rhinestone job with the dresses. And I kept the red dress as it is for now, since I am not competing in Rhythm at this point.
