Revelation tonight!
There was a very percussive song that was just rocking the place, and a bunch of guys started clapping the clave. Suddenly it was hammering in my head, moving my body without me. And I couldn't get it out. Bless those salseros!! Because when I heard that clave with new volume, my feet and body took off and I didn't have to think about anything anymore. There was a new level of understanding and ease, and pleeeeaaasssure. That 2... The way you can use them and dance on top of them like they're springs under your feet and in your hips... MAN. I knew this before, but it hadn't reached an internal place of understanding.
I can't wait to dance again on Saturday at the social. I know something now that I didn't know before. I was deaf and now I hear... the clave saved me!!! Now I know why so many poetic odes have been written here in honour of it. I raise my shot of Patron to the Almighty Clave, and drink it down with every ounce of relishment I can muster. Aaahhhh. One more degree of freedom.
