You know, you folks really need to lighten up and enjoy some of these line dances. They're way fun when you're out with a crowd of rowdy friends. Not that I ever am, mind you.

I wasn't going to say anything, BUT since YOU brought it up... Line dances aren't too bad. A little better then the macerena. [shudder] :)

cha cha slide is pure evil! You better have a loaded gun or a lot of alcohol to make me do it!!

I've heard the song, but never seen it done - or done it myself.

The thing about the cha-cha slide that kinda bugs me is that no one really seems to know how to do it...including me! I mean, they give you directions like "one hop" and "hands on your knees", but what is it really supposed to look like? And what do you do on the off-measures when they aren't giving you directions? LOL I guess this is me making things harder and more technical than they really are, but I guess I don't like a dance where there is really no standard set of steps to work with and build onto:?

Hi ballroomboilergirl! :D
Believe it or not, there are actually step lists and choreography details posted for this dance. Amazing, the things people do with their time!   Anyway, dancersdreamland posted links in the other Cha Cha Slide thread, which take you to the step lists.
The thing is, if you're out having fun with your friends, nobody cares if you're doing the steps right, anyway. Just have fun with it. Either that, or make your way to the nearest exit! LOL!

Well, the Cha Cha Slide and the Electric Slide are definite ice breakers in my neck of the woods. Even the people who publicly say they hate will do it when they're hanging out with their friends. :D Even a commericial for "Equal" chimed in on it!

Can I join you guys too? Man, that rock is more popular then the people out there doing the dance!! I vote we put them all under the rock with the cha cha slide, and we get a real cha cha on to get our groove on!
Seriously, I agree with pygmalion as long as you are having fun it does not matter what your moves are. So, I will do the cha cha slide if I can dance it with one of you guys. We'll make it our own and as we do our shines we'll convert those evil dancers who corrupt latin dance!!

It's now the UK's official no.1 hit, and I've finally heard it and seen the moves (was on TV last Friday). So... why is it called Cha Cha Slide?? :?
pygmalion
03-22-2004, 12:09 PM
Good question. I'm guessing it's the one-two-cha-cha-cha step, combined with wishful thinking that this dance might become as popular as electric slide at some point.
Holy cow! It's hard to believe that cha cha slide is just now peaking in popularity in the UK. How long ago was it popular in the US? A year and half or two at least, I'm guessing.

Understood. It stands to reason, since you're in Texas, country music mecca. I haven't heard that song in a while, and the last time I did, it was ina country bar.

honestly here in San Antonio it was famous for about 15 minutes. People still prefer electric slide, boots skoot boogey, and cotton eyed joe.

R&B star Usher was celebrating tonight after booting DJ Casper's novelty song Cha Cha Slide off the top spot in the pop charts.
New entry Yeah, featuring Lil' Jon and Ludacris, cruised to number one

Aww come on! Where's your sense of fun? Get out from under that rock. We saw it being done in a country night club in Las Vegas last year. Then a few months ago the DJ at our country night club played it and got everyone doing it. The song tells you the dance steps (like hop or cha-cha or break), you just follow everyone and you'll catch on. The main dance steps are like the Electric Slide. It's a fun ice-breaker and it gets people on the dance floor that don't normally dance. Course it could get old, but they only do it when that certain DJ is on and he usually does it later in the evening. I've only done it once or twice myself. It's fun! :D

LOL! I like watching the stuffy people hopping three times. Definitely makes it worth living through yet another line dance. What a hoot!

Line dancing . . . gets "all dressed up." A cha cha style ECS . . .
Think I'll stay under the rock . . .
At a recent event, most people that I hang with know how I "just won't do line-dancing." Although I used to love it!
They played an electric slide song, and the DJ yelled out, "Come on, all you electric sliders . . get on the dance floor." A Pro friend of mine pulled out a $100 bill, and offered it to me if I'd go do it. *gagging*
I didn't do it!
