Tropicana Hotel and casino in Atlantic City New Jersey is now hosting "Burn The Floor"... one of my friends, Julie (who was on SYTYCD, but didnt make it to the finals, her partner Stanislav Savich did) is in the show and it is almost over... i think you should go check it out... from what i hear, its an amazing combination of many ballroom dances, smooth dances, latin, mambo, salsa etc...etc... and tickets are fairly cheap... so if you're planning on being in Atlantic city... Check it out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm going to see it this weekend, and if anyone would like to read a my personal review of the show, i'd be more than happy to do so! thanks!

Please review the Atlantic City show.

I saw the original cast a couple of years ago and it was fantastic. From what I have read, Kym Johnson who is one of this year's DWTS pros was BTF dancer, but I can't place her on the DVD.

I saw Burn the Floor with the original touring cast as well. Quite a few years ago, actually. It was a really fun show...I thoroughly enjoyed it!

They made a video of the original. It also aired on PBS. I bought the tape hoping there might be some additional content that did not air on PBS but there wasn't any.

Not that I've heard, but I've been so out of the loop that I didn't know there was a new tour happening!

First and foremost,
I have not seen the original show so i didnt know what to expect when i sat in the theatre..
Now, I must say, the producers were very diverse in choosing the dancers. they were from all around the world, and if you were there, im sure you'd see some familiar faces such as Julie Tamarkina from SYTYCD, Giselle Peacock and Snow from SYTYCD. Very nice cast...
as for the stage setup.... it was quite simple.. a lifted stage in the back with a live band and two singers, male and female, which i loved because i think they had incredible voices. front of the stage was empty for the dancers, which to me seemed like they didnt have enough room because i caught a few dancers stumble across each others feet.
The choreography wasnt too bad.. although being a former dancer and having seen my share of ballroom dance performances, i think it lacked diversity in the steps. it was all pretty much basic steps in the following dances: Samba, Rumba, Cha Cha WCS and some jive. They did one paso routine and one WCS routine. So it got a little boring for me towards middle. They performed two samba and two cha cha routines which to me looked identical except for the different music it was danced to. That was disappointing to me because on the flyer, it said that the dances would be sexy and sultry and there would be mambo and salsa, and tango and so on and so forth. but none of those were to be seen.!! and the choreography seemed to be repetitive. The costumes were nice and simple, nothing extravegant. which was too a disappointment because being a former dancer, i know what a GREAT costume looks like and there wasnt nothing breath taking about the costumes nor the dancing. i do not think i'd see that show again. surprisingly, the auditorium, which is pretty big for a hotel and casino in atlantic city was PACKED.... but overall, i did not like it too much, and i wouldnt see it again.

Sorry to hear it was disappointing.

I thought the original was quite good. Interesting choreography and many top dancers including Blackpool finalists and Semi-Finalists: Jason Gilkison and Peta Roby, Matthew and Nicole Cutler, Jason Roditis and Tanya Kosovich, Alain and Anik (from Canada). There were definitely some sexy numbers.

I didn't see the original show live but I would recommend watching the video of the original.

Oh goodness...it sounds disappointing, and very different from the original. :( I'm sorry to hear that it didn't live up to your expectations.

I loved the original. I first saw it when I started dancing and was doing a bit of research at the library when I found the DVD. It's often not "typical" ballroom, but very creative, and it's a great show.

Well, I really do hope you like it. Otherwise, I'll feel guilty that you spent the money. However, I think you will enjoy !

I bought the tape hoping there might be some additional content that did not air on PBS but there wasn't any.

While the tape doesn't have anything extra on it, the DVD shows some of the behind the scenes planning that went into it for the costumes, stage design, choregraphy, etc.

I saw a previous version (but not the original) a couple years ago when they stopped at Paris Las Vegas. I was disappointed - I loved the orginal Video (I have 2 of them!) and was hoping for about the same thing.

All in all, it was good - good because being able to break away from a company event and Vegas lights for 'watching' dancing was enjoyable, but I couldn't get that nagging voice out of my head saying, where's the REALLY good stuff?!
