What are the differences?

Excuse my ignorance, but I need a crash course. What the heck is the difference in all these salsa dances? Like how is salsa on2 different from mambo or power2? What is the difference between salsa, salsa nyc, salsa LA, or salsa Fairbanks except the salsa in Fairbanks might freeze?

Thanks, I had already tried several searches and read tons of ideas. In my area, the basic definition is Salsa on the 1 beat and Mambo on the 2 beat. They don't break down all the other parts. So I find the rest of it very confusing.

I just use lots of cross body turns since it is a lot like westcoast swing at that point. Seems to work out OK.
