Welcome to the forums J!! :)
I'm not great at remembering songs. What album and artist is "Con Te Partiro" from?

Hi J! Welcome to the forums. :D
Jenn
Thanks...
"Con Te Partiro" is done by Andrea Bocelli. He has it on several albums since it's his most popular song.

Thanks for the tip, J-. I just pulled down the audio sample from amazon.com and listened. Hmm. What dance? Hard to say. I'd actually find it difficult to dance to, at all. It's hard to categorize.
First, the tempo of the music is very slow for a bolero, but the character of the music doesn't fit nightclub two-step. I'm not sure, but if I had to pick, I'd pick bolero. It'll be a challenge to dance, though. The song is very slow, so sustaining the movements for a bolero will be tough. The beats are hard to hear, so if you're not a musician or a very good dancer, you may find yourself losing the rhythm mid-dance. AND, to make it even more difficult, Andrew Bocelli takes a lot of liberties with the tempo. :?
Oh yeah, and I listened to samples from two different albums. Before you buy, take a listen to a couple. One version, from Romanza, had much more clearly accented beats than the other version. And clearly hearing the beats would make it easier to dance.
It is beautiful music, though. Wonderful to listen to. Does anyone else have ideas of another dance that might fit?
Thanks...it actually has some Waltz beats as well. If you listen closely you can define the 1-2-3...I dunno. I just love the song and would love to dance to it at my wedding...professionally rather than just swaying back and forth.

Hi J-. I've seen mostly a waltz (Vienese) performed to this song but the version was performed by Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman from his Romaza CD. I forget the ballroom performers, I have it on vhs tape somewhere. If I remember correctly, they were in all white and the choreography was like a dream sequence. I think a wedding would be ideal for this song! This song is beautiful. Love it!

Guys, is it possible there are different versions of this song? The one I sampled at amazon.com is in 4/4 time, so a waltz just doesn't fit (waltz is in 3/4 time). Since it's so popular, he may have done different timings, while using the same melodic line. People sometimes do that. But the one I listened to, you can't waltz to. *shrug*

My 2cents....
This is a beautiful song perfectly suitable for a wedding. I'm not sure what a professional choreographer would do, but it is in 4/4 timing (albeit a very slow 4/4). This would suggest a number of dances which could work. The ones that come to mind for 4/4 timing would be foxtrot, rumba/bolero, and tango (yes, I have heard this mixed as a tango and no, it is not pretty  ). For me, I would probably opt for a rumba/bolero routine. The song doesn't really have a foxtrot 'feel' and tango could be pretty tough to pull off for a typical wedding couple. Since most wedding couples tend to be beginners, I'd probably try to shoehorn in an American Rumba (although it wouldn't be an exact fit....).

Actually, when I first listened to it, the image in my mind was more modern dance-like, with some theater arts stuff thrown in, like lifts or dips. It IS beautiful music.

Hi J-. You mentioned your wedding dance. Does that mean you're looking for a dance teacher/choreographer to do a wedding dance for you? If so, how's the search going?

Hi,
One of my students and I danced to that song last year. The song is in 4/4 time and can be danced as a Bolero if sped up a little. We danced a Theatre Arts number to it. Donna Summers has a version of it as a hustle sung in English. If someone danced a Waltz to it then they where counting it in 6/8 rhythm or dancing it to triplets. The other suggestion is to dance a disco Fox Trot using all slow counts.

Hey Pygmalion! You and Twodance are right! I dug out my video tapes and watched it again. They did a slow foxtrot, not a waltz. It was Timothy and Michelle Mason from Tampa. Anyway, it was still beautiful. You know, just my opinion, I don't see how Bill Sparks and Kimberly Mitchell won the last two competitions before they stop airing them. (PBS productions). Maybe my eye is not seeing what the judges see in this couple. Clearly, the other couples were better. Especially Gary and Diana McDonald's "in your face" Samba and Dima and Olga Suchachov's Millenium Rumba. Anyone else see the last two? Gosh, I'm glad I recorded these, I miss seeing the competitions on PBS. :D
