I know there have been plenty of threads about music for particular dances, but here's a more general question...

Pop music choices for any type of dance. Preferrably current stuff...but not necessarily Top 40 right now...

Get the gist of the question?? :D

Thank you! I had gotten some of those...but some were new. I am so tired of people associating "ballroom" with "old fogeys"!!

I really want to choreograph some great things to some hopping music!!

I'm a big WCS person too...gonna work on sonething to "Kiss" by Prince soon......

Thanks again!

WCS? Two funny ones. Memphis Women and Fried Chicken. A bluesy, funky WCS. And then there's Long Jacket. I don't know the artist for either, but I'll find out. Both FUN WCS songs -- good music, nice tempo, and funny lyrics. No old fogey music here. :D

Bingo! Memphis Women and Fried Chicken by T. Graham Brown

It actually has a four wall line dance named the fried chicken(with some WCS moves in it)! I guess I'm not the only one to like that song.

Ha! Another hit! I love google.

The song is called Short Skirt/Long Jacket, by the group Cake

Too funny! gotta love that song. Just for kicks, here are some lyrics. :D
Cake -- short skirt, long jacket

I want a girl with a mind like a diamond
I want a girl who knows what's best
I want a girl with shoes that cut
And eyes that burn like cigarettes
I want a girl with the right allocation
Who's fast, and thorough, and sharp as a tack
She's playing with her jewelry, she's putting up her hair
She's touring the facility and picking up slack
I want a girl with a short skirt,
And a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong jacket

ok, what about the tradition ballroom music for tango and waltz. I have hard time finding it

Traditional? Or pop? Tango is hard to find either way, but I think ballroomboilergirl suggested a few good pop music waltzes. My fave waltz from her list is the one from Shrek. So romantic!

Tangos? I think there was a good one on the Moulin rouge soundtrack. Roxanne? Argentine tango?

If it's traditional you want, you might check out the dancevision web site. You can listen to the CD's before you buy. And they have music for virtually any ballroom dance you can think of. :D
