Ok, I absolutely love Halloween. And since my friends and I were talking about it last night, I thought I would start an early post about discussing Halloween. It can be about ghost stories and/or costumes, or anything relating to Halloween.

I do have a couple of real ghost stories. I once was visiting the Jesse James farm with my family on a bright and sunny day. There's a big huge tree to the right side of the house. There was absolutely no wind or anything as well. My dad and I were walking ahead of the group while my mom and my sister were walking with everyone else when all of the sudden a big huge branch fell right in front of my mom and my sister for no reason. My dad and I looked back laughing when the tour guide said, "I hope there are no ghosts here today". It was really amazing. (Which anything could have made that branch fall, but it was a huge thick branch. Something that a tiny animal couldn't have made fall in other words lol. But I always joked with my mom about how maybe they are our long lost cousins or something trying to give you a sign whenever she does genealogy lol.)

The second incident happened in my old apartment I lived in. I was up around 6 something when all of the sudden, a book flew from the shelf to the floor right in front of me. (Mind you that I was nowhere close to the book or the bookcase. I had just gotten out of bed and was looking at it.) It fell so hard to the ground that I thought it would wake up the neighbors. Maybe it was a sign to tell me to go to class early that day since I had two tests and two presentations lol. But I looked after I had enough guts to, and there were no mice or anything like that to have knocked the book down. The bookcase wasn't chewed on in order for something to crawl in there like that. The other books were fine too! I still don't get why that book was tossed like that, because I wasn't even in that class lol. But it still shook me to no end, and I moved out that summer either way lol.

I wish I could see a ghost, but I haven't been that lucky. Maybe I don't want to be that lucky lol. But those are my two stories for what they are worth to anyone. I've lived in old Victorian houses, but I never experienced anything that way, but my siblings have. But that's them, and I'm just reporting the two instances that I've had happen to me. So, yeah anything like the stories I gave you, or even funny stories, or what have you! Just have fun with this thread, because this is what this thread is about! ;)

The first time ever I went all out to dress up for Halloween was for a dance party :) I dreseed up a pirate, and spent a lot of time putting make up on my face (white and black face paint). This is when I learned first hand what great magic make-up can do, and how hard it is to apply make-up correctly. So now I'm a bit more appreiciative of womenly charms ;) And little did I expect to win the best costume prize at the dance party :) I shared the prize with a girl who looked like an angel (and was dressed like one). I was taken so much by surprise, because I didn't even expect the party to include a quick contest and a prize...

I don't have a ghost sighting story, but I have something related to share. When my granda died, his body was in our home for a night, waiting for ritual cremation the next morning. I was surprised to notice that his own children (who were in their 50's) were generally afraid of being in the same room with him along as night progressed and it got darker outside. It was as if they expected his ghost to be around and were afraid of being there. To me, it just felt silly. If my granddad's ghost was gonna be there, I might have just said hi and asked him how it felt to be dead! Surely, he wasn't going to harm me or anything. After all he was my granddad...

I guess it's time for my annual candy-buying trip to Sam's Club. I usually get about 120 full-sized candy bars and then, when the trick-or-treaters don't show up, I regret it. I'll be eating Snickers until 2007.

... but is that really a bad thing?

A couple of years ago I actually ran out of candy during Halloween. The weather was nice and warm, it was Friday and it was literally a stampede of trick-or-treaters. But my son helped me out and donated some of the candy he collected earlier in exchange for a toy.

My daughter was treated to a local fair today by one of my very kind neighbors. This is how she came home.

It cost $15. Now, if only a professional would do my make-up for a comp for $15...I'd fork it right over!

Ahhh...will have to edit the size of the photo.

I think I need to e-mail this picture to someone to re-size. I can't seem to do it with the software that came with the camera....although I'm sure I did it a few months ago.

Oh I remembered another story. My sister is like Chevy Chase when it comes to decorating their house with Christmas stuff and for the other holidays. Well, they like to put those (I'm not sure how you describe them), but those life size type of witches and scarecrows out on their front porch amongst everything else. Well, we usually go over there for Halloween, and one night I drove over there to see nothing unusual on the front porch. Except that what I didn't know was that the life size witch that they had on their front porch this time was my mother all decked out lol. She was not moving, so I didn't think anything of it, and I really wasn't paying any attention. And what she did was that she took her hand and grabbed my ankle, which made me scream so loud lol. What was even funnier than that was that my mom did this to everyone that came up. She had kids crying and parents laughing so hard lol. I always look twice now just to make sure that my mom didn't sneak over before us kids lol. Oh and I don't know what she did with her car, because it wasn't in my sisters driveway at that time. So, I'm thinking that both my mom and my sister planned that event together lol.

SP - What book was it? Was there a message for you in it?

Yay, Halloween!
I love costumes and I usually dress up in something fairly elaborate. This year the Halloween party I'm attending is a dance party for my local USA Dance chapter. I'm racking (wracking?) my brain for a danceable costume and would love to know what other people have done in the past.

I'm tempted to just wear an evening dress and carry a Ping-Pong paddle with a number pasted on, and be Carrie-Anne Inaba.

I actually bought a Sailor shirt (authentic, I think) on Ebay many years ago and it's been just sitting in my closet. I have blue stretchy-flair pants and just need a hat, and I'm all set. Very inexpensive, and easy to dance in.

I also have a devil's costume. I may sell that on ebay.

Meh...Halloween.

I got really fed up with giving out candy to kids when one of them just flat-out opened our front door and walked in the house looking for candy. I could have killed him, or his parents who--Surprise!--were nowhere in sight. It works out, though, b/c kids don't seem to be going door-to-door much anymore--safety concerns, apparently, but I don't see why parents can't go with them. *sigh* Also, no one seems to Trick-or-Treat on Halloween anymore, what's up with that?

I might go to the Halloween dance this year--got to find a costume. My favorite was a Venetial Carnival thing--in the sense that it was NOT me at all...must have been my alter ego. Knee high vinyl boots, long black skirt with high slit, very low cut corset, and a venetian carnival mask. That would take some engineering, though, to make the corset dance-able (to keep it PG, at least).

We used to live in a house that was (supposedly) haunted. I never experienced anything, though. It was old (about 250 years old), had been used as a Civil War hospital, and definitely had some slave-holding history to it. OLD manacles hanging from an iron bolt in the ceiling, hidden underground rooms, underground escape tunnel. A story had it that the ghost of a young widow of a civil war soldier who died there wandered around at night looking for him.

Lol! It was one of my computer books as to which I had already taken the class. I was so scared of the book even after going through it (because I was curious to see if there was a message or something lol) that I gave it to my x when he signed up for the class lol. He was like you are giving me this book for free, and I was like yep... just take it... it's yours lol! :p

Wow! That is an amazing post! I love hearing about old houses! Also, one year I went as Ashley Simpson lol. It was the year where she got caught lip synching? It was funny, because none of the students recognized me. They were just dying because I had a fancy belt and a wig to match her hair and things like that. I also carried around a broken CD player with a microphone, so I could pretend to be singing. It was pretty funny, and everyone loved it lol.

Yep, that is B&A--I love 'em too! I used to skate (badly), so I could wear a skating dress as my costume! Might look funny with ballroom shoes, though.

I once dressed up in my father's old navy outfit and went dancing on Halloween. Lots of fun!

Wow. Face painting aside, her bone structure has emerged a lot since the last time you posted a pic. She's gonna be a looker, just like her Mom. :D

Nice.

Spent the afternoon driving around, looking for fake moustaches. I finally found some at US Toy Company. Which is a pity, since I can't resist buying all sorts of random junk in that store. It's a blast. I always end up broke, but have a heck of a lot of fun in the process. :D

We put up our Halloween lights this weekend - orange, purple and black, plus some lighted pumpkins from Target. Anyone else puts up lights for Halloween?
