Hey guys, I"m new here, and I have a question about music. I don't know where exactly to post this, or where really to go searching for it, so if someone can point me in the right direction or help me out, that'd be great :)

ANyway, I'm trying to make some CDs with music to dance to. These are the dances I'm doing (for now, I'll be back to whine for other ones later)

Foxtrot,
Merangué (is that the right spelling?)
Tango,
the Hustle,
and the argentinian tango (ah, my spelling is so bad)

Any advice, choices, or generalities about these you can tell me? Thanks!

Are you looking for downloadable ballroom music? MP3 format? midi format? Or existing CD compilations? Or something else?

Welcome to the forums, Asmoridin! :D

Try some of these:

Foxtrot: Lots of Sinatra and Tony Bennet tunes are great for this, like "The Best is Yet To Come, "Nice 'n Easy", "Just In Time", "I Wanna be Around", "Watch What Happens" (Sinatra version) as just a few examples.

Hustle: Personally, I tend to like House music more for this nowadays, so some recommendations are:

Ananda Project - Tangerine, Big Boat (from the "Morning Light" CD)
Nina Simone - Sinner Man (from Verve Remixed 2 CD)
Ella Fitzgerald - Slap That Bass (from Verve Remixed 2 CD)
Kaskade - I Feel Like (from "It's You, It's Me" CD)
Hipnotic - Naima (from Giant Step Records Sessions Vol I CD)
Blaze - Elevation (from Giant Step Records Sessions Vol I CD)
St. Germain - Rose Rogue (the Blaze Remix, found on Phonography 1 by DJ Smash)

Hope that helps some.

pygmalion: Pretty much anything honestly. I suppose downloadable stuff is the easiest to work with for me, but I would buy CDs if necessary :)

Phil: Thanks for the suggestions, my roomate has some Tony Bennet stuff, and I must agree, a lot of them are perfect! I'll try to get the other stuff you recommended too! :)
Thanks!

Any other suggestions?

One of the world's best fox trot tunes, IMHO, is Cheek to Cheek. Ella and Billie have amazing swung versions of this song. Almost swung enough for lindy, but the fox trot is the stronger influence in both.

Awesome songs.

For merengue (correct spelling) - try:

Contemporary (produced in recent years):
Elvis Crespo (a favorite for great music and romantic lyrics) - Suavemente CD - songs Suavemente, Luna Llena, Tu Sonrisa, Me Arrepiento, Princesita
Grupo Mania (they have greatest hits CD's) - Linda Eh, Como Baila, Me Miras ye Te Miro, Que Loco, Corazoncito, Pa'l Bailador
Rubby Perez - Vuelve El Merengue CD - songs: Las Mujeres, Weepa, Enamorao

Classic (70's & 80's)
Johnny Ventura (classic, great merengue, "colorful" lyrics in some cases  ) - Merenguero Hasta La Tambora CD (or greatest hits CD) - songs: Palo Bonito, Chuculum Sepetua, A Cual Piso, Patacon Pisao, Capullo y Serullo, Seremos Tres, La Cirugia
Fernandito Villalona - Los Anos Dorados CD - song- "Marisela "
Conjunto Quisqueya (70's merengue but great) no CD's out there except CD's with various artists - song "Los Limones"

If you've never heard the songs, check out cduniverse.com and you can sample them there & see if you like it.

I'm very impressed with the answers to this post!!!

Sagita, I love the way you linked to some of the other posts about music. You should be one of the moderators here!

Dancegal and Philowl, thanks for taking the time to really think about it and list some songs that I'm sure will be helpful to this person.

I'm going to have to check out some these tunes myself!!!
