Finally! I thought I was the only one that didnt like Carmen. I see her dance and its pretty good but its not like WOW. You know? I dont know what everyone is so hyped about. And you are so right, Julia kicks ass (am I allowed to say that here)!

I think she looks better in the Superstars latin 2006 compared to the recent 3 years... I was impressed with her rumba and it's clear why they are the champions.

Lol! I'd still want to come back as me. I have met some celebrities (as I'm sure others have here too) that I had thought oh I want their life, but then I was like no thanks lol. It's even harder when you are younger though, because you sometimes do want to be you know that prom queen or that super star kid with the great clothes and what have you lol, but nah... I've realized in my lifetime that I'm content with who I am. There is always room for change, but only if I want it and not cause someone else has something I don't. ;)

I just saw Bryan and Carmen live this past summer, and I have to say they're pretty amazing. While she's not necessarily my favorite female if I just watch her, they're such a great couple- my favorites to watch for musicality, body rhythm, and sheer consistency. Carmen has a "fullness" in her dancing that very few achieve. I think it is sometimes distracting when one looks at visual beauty, in the sense that she is not the "prettiest" girl on the floor. She's actually quite good looking off the floor, though she is looking older. But that's not the issue. She wins because her partnership with Bryan is the most balanced, and each one of them individually is superb. Whereas some other champions on the floor might be distinct for a particular aspect, e.g. speed (Joanna Leunis) or charisma (Karina), Carmen has the art and the technique developed to a very high level, and has a partner who matches her. I always thought the couple that came closest to that was Dimitri Timokhin/Anna Bezikova. But all in all, Bryan was a better dancer than Dimitri, and so he and Carmen usually won.
It took me many years to get to disregard what I call "visual beauty", specifically the pretty face. Sometimes, when I am trying to figure out why a particular dancer is judged superior, especially the women, I intentionally "blur" their faces in my mind while I'm watching them, and usually the results start making a lot more sense.
I'm not saying that physical beauty and/or communication through facial expression is not important or not part of the judging criteria. Expression and communication with the partner and the audience certainly are. It's just that I think that, for most lay people, these issues influence our response a lot more than they influence the judges.
But all in all, Bryan was a better dancer than Dimitri, and so he and Carmen usually won.

Karina and Roman Nabatov and Eugene and Maria are peers. They were the two amateure couples out of Victor Kanevski's studio who were the top two for quite a while. Karina got the opportunity to turn pro and dance with Paul Killick. She grabbed the golden ring. Eugene and Maria are still chasing the World and Blackpool amateure titles. I don't know... But I think they are missing out on this publicity bonanza by remaining amateurs.The clock is ticking.

There are a LOT more amateurs out of Victor's studio than just eugene/maria and roman/karina.... you have max (from dancing with the stars) as well as a host of others. I cant think of a US studio that has produced more top talent.
I cant think of a US studio that has produced more top Latin talent.
