Okay, I know this has absolutely NOTHING to do with dance, but I simply must vent  /share :D /be really excited :bouncy: with my dancing friends.

So, two weeks ago (December 15) my fiance and I attempt to go holiday shopping only to end of in a very stressed debate about not having the money to spend of Christmas, which in turn stumbled into not having enough money to continue through with our wedding this coming October.

With the stress of his unable to obtain a full-time police job (nothing available so working two part-time jobs with no benefits and not enough pay/hours) and holidays (always expensive) and wedding planning (too much to do, not enough time/money) turned the whole first half of the week into one giant mess.

Then, we came to the conclusion it would be a million times less expensive to simply elope. After some research, we decided to go to Disney for New Year's 2004 into 2005. We became very comfortable with the idea and shared it with his mom (who at one time was very supportive of the idea of eloping) and my grandmother (who also wanted us to elope) only to find that neither of them wanted us to "run away" together without family and friends.

So, the plan to elope is off. That brings us to this week...we finally figured out a budgetary plan (with help from family :D ...bless them dearly) and are now in full swing for planning! :D

During the whole eloping talk, we became very excited with the idea behind a Disney themed wedding. Now, since we can't go to Disney, we're bringing Disney to us with a Cinderella theme (invites, programs, music, etc.)

I am SOOOO excited!!! and incredibly STRESSED!!!!! Anyone else been through this whole planning stress? How do you just relax and remember that it's only one day from your whole life?

Our caterer had an excellent piece of advice, "Remember, this is only your wedding day. What's most important is the marriage, not the ceremony."

I think this is EXCELLENT advice, but I tend to worry about the little things. I'm a planner, a perfectionist, and a worrier. Urg.

Anyway, my apologies for the long ramble, I've just really needed to share this with someone other than my fiance (whose heard this now a million times) and my maid of honor (who only knows a portion of the story and is not being very supportive of the whole Disney thing). Thanks for letting me just vent and share excited stuff!

Congratulations for working something out DDL! That's fantastic!! I'm really happy for you. Planning a big day event, especially one that means a lot to you personally can be extremely stressfull!! For my cousin's wedding her parent's did a lot of the planning. Can you think of anyone who shares your excitement for a themed wedding and would be able to help organize certain aspects of your wedding.

Given the sudden change of plans give people time to learn about your new theme. A lot has happened in a very short time. In the space of few weeks it was: cannot do so -no/elope/yes/Disney theme, if I follow correctly. Not everyone is as intimately involved to realize all that has happened. Remember October is 9 months away!!

Thank you!

It's hard to remember that people can't read minds and that they probably have no clue about what's goin on with me... Very erroneously, I always just people know what I'm thinking and talking about and that they should just agree...then I get very easily disappointed when they don't. Something I needs to work on.

Looks like I'll just have to remember the world doesn't revolve around me... :D

Good luck, dancersdreamland! I've planned several major events in my lifetime, and I can tell you this: 1. Something WILL go wrong 2.It will be minor, or else something you can handle

So just enjoy the process.

I forgot to mention this. Did I tell you my Dad is a minister? Well, he is, and does weddings all the time. He actually does a very nice wedding ceremony, with lots of good advice. Best advice? Don't worry so much about planning the wedding. Think about planning the marriage, and the wedding will take care of itself.

Second best advice? Women used to get married to be financially secure. Now they have their own resources, so they get married these days because they want the emotional support of a real husband. So husbands need to find out what makes their wive's tick, and try to provide that emotional support.

wow! My Dad's a smart guy. :D

hey, i know i'm a little late to this... lol... i'm a loser.... but yeah, congrats!!!! that sounds like a REALLY good wedding plan.... disney is my favorite so i'm sure it's gonna be really awesome... and no, i've never been through wedding planning but my cousin has and i was there with her.... lemme tell you, she was stressed like all hell and it wasn't a pretty sight... but the most important thing to do is think that everything will work out in the end, no matter what.... it always does... so don't stress over little things that might not work because in the end, they will and you'll have the best night of your life.... so my advice to you is, keep up with the wedding plans and don't worry about it! it'll work out in the end and you will have the best time =)

haha, you're listening to advice from a seventeen year old... i'm good though so don't worry

Other than that, Congratulations. Remember to have fun with it, don't get too stressed out about making everything perfect that you're not going to have fun.

During the whole eloping talk, we became very excited with the idea behind a Disney themed wedding. Now, since we can't go to Disney, we're bringing Disney to us with a Cinderella theme (invites, programs, music, etc.)

My mom has a Carlson Craft invite catalog with Cinderella themed invites and stuff. If you go to a wedding boutique and check out the big blue book, you'll see what they look like. I betcha I can get ya a deal... <wink>

Hey dancersdreamland! Are you out there? If so, (or if not, come to think of it,) your wedding is scheduled for this month. I'm not sure of the date, so let me be the first DFer to wish you many, many happy returns. Best wishes to you and the lucky bridegroom.
