Who wouldn't agree that a rotator is a fun move?

What I'm actually looking for are any tips on doing a good rotator...Not a lot of leads seem to do this move, unless they've danced with me in class, so even though it's not very common for me at this point, I'd like to figure out how to get better at it. My instructor pointed out that before I "learned" the move, it was more spontaneous and so I followed it better. So there's some part of it that I'm helping too much as a follow because I'm anticipating what's coming.

Also, any tips on the upper body movement on the first count of the move? It was described to me as subtly shifting my right shoulder and rib cage up and to the right on 1 (as I dance mostly on2).

Just to throw one more thing in, any ideas why I failed miserably at doing a rotator on1 last weekend? my feet were in the right places, but the way I was shifting my weight was way off. Does it feel different dancing a rotator on1 vs on2? shouldn't it be the same footwork on the same count? I was dancing with a very good-natured guy who is also a good dancer from class, and he gave me a few opportunities to get it right, and though it improved, I still didn't get it right...so until you all prove me wrong otherwise, I'm chalking it up to the fact that we were on1...(deny, deny, deny :p).

Let me make a guess-- A-- a guy dancing with 2 ladies ? or B--- one lady being switched from one guy to another in succession ?. Both fit the bill-- unless ?????????

This is why I love salsa. It's like learning a new language that has many dialects.

I have no idea what she is talking about but it sounds fun!

I'm really curious myself--what is this move? (I'd bet money it's something we probably see all of the time but has a different name in our respective areas!) :p

I'd assume so as well. That's the things with salsa though... different names for the same thing and different things taught under the same name always makes discussions interesting!

I'm sure I'm not the only one a little giddy with anticipation. C'mon Catarina...what is a rotator?:)

Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry that I've kept you all waiting a whole day in anticipation! Not my style to keep people waiting on me :)

sorry for the confusion, but it is probably a move you all know by another alias...it's where (on 1) the lead/follow swap places with the follow moving forward with right foot out, left foot gracefully sliding on floor without moving too far from original position, (on2) swap places again not fully completing the turn, moreso shifting weight and turning left foot's position on the floor counterclockwise, (on 3) complete the rotation (get it? rotator) by stepping right foot in it's original place. on 5, 6, 7, do a regular basic.

It's just a fast way of 2 cbl's in half of a count.
What do you all call it?

i'd love to find a clip of it on youtube...wait, maybe I know where to look. my cpu is uber slow, so i'll post that separately, watching grass grow as I wait for the video to load on youtube...

The only rotator move that I could on the web find is a ceroc dance move...

Ok. found a clip...it's at 33 seconds in to the video, and it's the couple on the right that does it...tell me what you think :) maybe if somebody else has a better clip where the footwork is shown, that would be helpful too?

HA! Yes, it's pretty much what everyone was thinking. We've all seen it, but call it something different. I think most people know it as a 360 cross body.

Can't help you too much cause I can't get the lead right to save my butt. I know it in theory, but my body won't catch up to what my brain is thinking. But if I understand it right, you start with your normal basic and if the lead catches it right (won't be me) that first turn is more of a pivot, like a half turn and then you the footwork is like the rest of the cross body.

Perhaps someone will be along shortly to help you out better than I can.

that Salsa forum thread was helpful, thanks :)
And now that we all know it's a 360 cbl, any other specific tips for the follow? I really like this move and would also really like to figure it out a bit better ;)

I've been trying to do this move without any imperfections for awhile, and still find difficulty. Lately i've been trying to study this video. This couple dancing are awesome at that "rotator" move.. They do it for awhile in about the 23rd second of the vid link.
