Hello Everyone,

I'm a college student recently introduced to dance by my local Arthur Murray studio and I'm stoked on taking more lessons and learning how to samba. Unfortunately, I'm unable to afford the classes at their retail rate so I'm made to look for other ways to acquire their lessons. I've been told that its possible to purchase lessons from someone who has extra or even from another AM studio. I'm not 100% sure of the logistics but I assume there's some internal exchange system that AM uses that would take care of the nitty gritty for us. If you can help me out or know of someone who can help me, please PM me or post to the thread.

(I'd imagine we can use Ebay/Paypal as arbitrators of the deal so you and I are protected. If you aren't familar with how to sell on Ebay, I can show you or we can explore other arrangements.)

Finding a local independent will get you much more value for your money - probably the lessons would be cheaper.

Also - does your college have a ballroom team? If not, maybe starting one (with the indie teacher) would lower your costs. Twenty students in a class can finance a lesson at a much cheaper per-person basis.

Check the terms of your contract and see what it says about "assignment". More than likely you can't just "buy and sell" lessons without some kind of approval from the studio that entered into the contract with the original student.

That's may or may not be true saludas, depending entirely on the specific studios available in the poster's area. Additionally (and as previous threads have noted I might add) value for a beginer at AM can be quite high if they are able to avail themselves of the wide range of group classe, parties, etc., that are part of an AM contract.

That's my thought as well Cal, so please do read all the fine print before buying any such second-hand lessons marcopolo.

At my former AM studio, it expressly states on the contracts that lessons are non-transferrable - only in the event of the student's death may the estate representative request a refund or donation to someone else - but it is not "guaranteed" approval. Also, all lessons paid for in advance must be used in the alloted time (usually one year).
