Ok, so it turns out I'll be in Toronto at Ba Ba Luu on Thursday night (straight off the plane from SD at that), and I may get baclk to a club on Staurday night as well. The point here being that it would be great to meet any DFers from the area who may be going dancing!

I'll then be up in San Jose Monday-Sunday (Nov. 13-18 ), although may not be able to get out much since I'll be in town for a major academic conference. So, any recomendation for clubs if I do get the chance?

Hey SD, here's a link to a dance studio we used to go to when we lived in San Jose. It's in Sunnyvale, which is right next to San Jose. Have fun.

Just look for the cool cat with the green watermelon helmet, or was it a purple dress... Oops, that's been hidden for years.... heheh

Ba Ba Luu is always fun. Dress up just a bit.

If you're in Toronto Saturday afternoon, check out Toronto Salsa Practice 3:30-5:30pm. 5:30-7:30pm. Trinity-St. Paul's Church 427 Bloor Street West, just west of Spadina Avenue. Nice wood floor, very casual, all ages and abilities of dancers.

Saturday night 9:00pm. try UCanDance (.ca) located at 1355 St. Clair West. @ Landsdowne; next door to La Paloma - an Italian gelato place. Frank Bishun, an instructor is celebrating his birthday. Should be lots of people, good dancers too, nice floor.

Are you still in Toronto Sunday? Try MamboTribe's Sunday Social at Dovercourt Community Centre 805 Dovercourt Road, one block north of Bloor Street West and close to the Ossington Subway Station. Lesson @ 5:00pm. Dancing until 9:00pm. Nice wood floor all levels and ages of dancers.

Sleep on the plane flight to San Jose.

Thanks for the info SalsaTO. Unfortunately I'm not around on Sunday as I fly back to San Diego Sunday morning in order to give an exam for some of my students Monday morning before flying up to San Jose Monday afternoon.

Just so I'm sure I understand, what's with the split times for the Toronto Salsa Practice on Saturdy? (3:30-5:30pm. 5:30-7:30pm.) Does this mean that there are two different sessions? Fairly sure I'll hit that one, so just want to make sure I've got it right.

Hopefully, you'll probably access this from a public terminal somewhere.

Toronto Salsa Practice has the place for 6 hours on Saturdays. They sell admission for three sessions of two hours each. The 3:30pm. session is often the best. You can decide for yourself if you want to hang around for a second session.

If you like live music with your salsa, you can go to Lula Lounge 1585 Dundas West -- 2 blocks west of Dufferin.

Friday night is their best salsa night. Its a double header with Soneros del Caribe at & Veronica and the Latino Beat. first set is at 8:00pm. The main salsa band comes on at 10:30pm. Cover is $15.

On Saturday, "Yeti" Lady Son y Articulo Veinte has an Afro-Cuban rumba / son band. Two sets. First one at 10:00pm. Lula is punctual. The sound there is really good. The dancers are more casual, as in not as technically into it as at the other places.

Acrobat Lounge's website is created not by the owners of Acrobat, but by a company that services lounges and restaurents all over Toronto - sort of one size fits all. The site is created in Flash, which mere mortals cannot easily update, unlike HTML. The owners are too busy trying to keep their heads above water running a resto. They don't have time to fiddle around in Flash. So they simply pass the word around about day or date changes. I don't believe they have any sort of email "subscription" list yet.

It's catered or something. It was written on a small black board last friday.

Thanks for all the information. :D

I leave for the airport in a couple of hours and will be going straight from Pearson to Ba Ba Luu after I get in. I will have computer access while I'm in town though, so will continue checking in for any updates... Thanks again!

Welcome to Toronto!
Acrobat has changed owners and the crowd of late (the last month) reflects this change. I'd estimate about 80% of dancers are beginners and the place has been less than 1/3 full. It's too bad because when Kevork ran the evening with the previous owners it was great.

Mambo Tribe's Friday night events at Dovercourt House have been fantastic with lots of intermediate and advanced dancers and virtually no beginners (not that I have anything against beginners since we all started somewhere). The room is huge with a great wood floor and the people are great and very welcoming. I only started going a few weeks ago and found I barely sat down the entire night and never left before they closed at 1:00 a.m.

The Toronto Salsa Practice is pretty good though they've been playing the same music for many months now, but it may be new to you. People are friendly. Dancers are mostly beginners and intermediate. But it's relaxed and fun.

Anyway, have a fantastic time in Toronto and if you're at Dovercourt House or TSP then look for the two redheads...one tall and gorgeous with straight dark red hair and the other one short with curly auburn hair and let's dance!

Enjoy!
