View Full Version : mp3 players
Our club's stereo is nearly dead, so we're planning move into the modern age and replace it with an mp3 player and speakers. But the number of choices is bewildering! As a mac person I'd be inclined to go with an ipod, but maybe there's something cheaper that works just as well? I suppose we'd use around 1 G or 2 G at most, and we'd want to be able to make playlists and such. Anyways, any recommendations (or anti-recommendations!) you have would be terrific.

Our studio still uses the good old (stress old, please) CD players. So no reccomendations here.

I don't know either except that I beat T_E! My new studio just got a whole new stereo system. I'm not sure what kind it is or what it looks like, because I haven't seen the actual stereo (it's in the back to where we can't see it), but at least ours is updated lol! ;)

We have a thread floating around here about this. Let me see if I can find it.

I think there was another one, but I can't find it.
I have a Zen Vision M, but it's as pricey as an IPOD. Absolutely love it. I would not, however, recommend the Zen Micro because it has a history of problems with the earphone jack and mine was rendered useless just after about a year of use ($200 player). Maybe they have fixed this by now, but if you were to get one, I'd definitely go for the extended warranty.

Something with removable media (preferably SD) is all I can think of. It's amazing- you can hold an infinity (I have to stop watching ND) of songs on something no bigger than your thumb, AND project it over an entire studio. Wow.

Ipods need no removable data, since it is loaded from a computer based program - which holds the original data.
For a studio, you will certainly need a machine with variable speed, tho.

One teacher uses plain old cd/stero combo.
Other studio uses combination of iPods, cd players, and a central computer. There's a central sound system and several individual "areas" which can be plugged directly into a portable player of some sort, so you can have different music going on. Or it can be overriden by the central computer/mixer thingy.

Thanks! I tried searching, but I apparently it ignores any word with 3 or fewer characters?

It's a college club so we don't need anything thaaaat fancy.
Ooh, I found the other one (http://www.dance-forums.com/showthread.php?t=6162&highlight=ipod in case anyone else is interested). Anyways thanks for the help, and sorry for bringing the topic up for the 4th or 5th or 6th time!
