What is the two word dance name (?A?L-?O?E?) where "dancers change partners after circling in separate rings of men and women" from a daily telegraph crossword clue

Ta Janet

Hi janethegner! What a cool way to start posting! :D Welcome to the forums. I'm actually pretty good at these sorts of puzzles, but my brain is way scrambled today. Maybe another DFer can figure it out! :D 8)

This is a challenging question. I just ran a number of searches on Google and came up empty. Any more clues?

Great one, Janet...I tried the term in several online crossword dictionaries and the best I could come up with was call-boxes, which I'm guessing ain't right! :) Do let us know when you get the answer, I suspect some of us won't be getting any sleep tonight! ;)

Huh? Paul Jones? Is that actually a dance?

It's not the name of a dance, it's the name of a type of mixer that can be used with many dances.

Paul Jones is the correct answer (though I only see one reference):
"Paul Jones" dance

So, it's Paul Jones, eh? Wonder if Jane Thegner ever got it? Mind you that leads me to another point... perhaps it's because I live in a totally different hemisphere, but what exactly do you mean by "mixer"? I'm guessing it's the equivalent of our "progressive" dances where each round is danced with a different partner?

A paul Jones dance is really just a way of picking partners. You basically have both circles rotate to the right and when the music stops whomever you match with is your first partner, then repeat 2-3 time or whatever. Then when the real dances start they will tell you find partners number 1 for that dance, and so on. Studios use this to make sure all the students that show to say a practice party will have a partner and not just wind up sitting down.
