How much styling for men?

I found a reference to this idea on another bulletin board, and got curious. Are there limits to how much styling is acceptable, or even polite, for a man? When you consider that it's the gentleman's job to "frame" and show off the lady, is he constrained in terms of how much styling he can do? What if his follow is relatively inexperienced? And is it different from social to competitive settings?

I can speak only from a follow's point of view, but I have found that leads who style to their heart's content make following alot more fun. It makes it interesting to follow and sort of play along- styling back. I'd be interested to hear what others think...
