There are a lot of flamboyant dancers out there who everybody notices. Maybe they are always receive the biggest applause at the shows. Or maybe they are recognized as the best teacher in town.

But what about some of the other dancers who make the dance scene what it is?
- soft spoken, yet extremely talented teachers
- decorators for the parties
- organizers of charitable events
- teaching children or handicapped
- genuinely nice people who make the party or class more pleasant
- people who work behind the scenes at competitions

Do you know of an underated person that deserves a pat on the back?

I do know of those people who aren't recognized a lot, but make the social dance scene what it is. I have made a point to personally acknowledge it. :)

What about the people who run dance studios, DM?

I know many of them do it as a business (and quite ruthlessly at times), but dance studios are generally places of great friendliness and and warmth and many studios don't make that much money, so the organisers do it for the sheer love of dance and teaching others to do so.

That deserves a pat on the back...

Oh, and I forgot the "kind" dancers. You know the ones who will dance with anybody, no matter how new or bad or good everyone else is and not because they are bad dancers (most are very good), but simply to ensure that no one leaves feeling unwanted.

I have a particular soft spot for those lovely gents (and ladies, of course) who, even when I make it patently clear that I don't know a dance, will encourage me and say something like "well, you're never going to learn if you don't try" or "hey, just try to stumble through it".

These "kind" people are hosts at the Ithaca social dances. That is they will dance with anyone at the dance, and even show you what you want to know. That's what I am definitely trying to be. Hopefully I will get good enough so that I can really help people out a lot.
