I first saw him dance at a congress in Seattle over thanksgiving. He is part of the Salsa Mania dance company, and I saw him perform alongwith John Narvaez. He is really good, but its so clear that he is just a kid..

Agreed..but can you imagine what he's gonna be like in a few years???:raisebro: Coincidentally, I saw a group of teenagers (Kids con Estilo) this weekend at a social in D.C. They were GREAT! Such flava, and danced really well to boot. I was trying to keep an eye for the guys so I could dance with one. I wish I could find a video of them. I'll keep an eye out.

Yes, it is clear that he is a kid and I am no cradle snatcher! I only want to dance with him!

IMO, he is better than some "adults" I know, who have been dancing 10 years! And his confidence! If he keeps it up, there is no telling where he might get to, in dance ability. There is a boy I met several years ago. He was amazing. I then heard he went more into hiphop/breakdancing than salsa. Our loss.

I don't work much with kids who dance. But, from what I see, yes, they can "lack a certain maturity or perspective" in their dancing. They don't have life experience. I mean, a teasing/"come hither" look from a kid/child is clearing going to get a different reaction from a woman than that same look from a man. ;)

But hey, on the basis that I dance with everyone, with the caveat that my safety isn't at risk, then I will happily dance with children.

Fascination, I am glad "he didn't do it for you". Just means, more dances/less competition for me!

DUDES!!!! That's Mario! He's the son of a friend of mine here in Edmonton! My teacher is his teacher! HAHAHA!! Very cool! (His dad dances a verrry nice bachata.)

Yeah that kid is on the way. And that's the kind of stuff my teacher can inspire.

Oh and I did dance with him at a social last year. It's so weird dancing with a kid, especially when I'm narly six feet tall, lol. And he lets it go and I'm like "wow. I would normally do a body roll there but it just DOESN'T feel appropriate, :p"

Well, I don't know who he started with, but currently he trains with my teacher, Jennifer Izquierdo, with Spice Productions (www.spiceproductions.ca (http://www.spiceproductions.ca)). Salsa mania.. again I'm not sure about his story. But he's a wee bit on the spoiled side and his dad pulls out ALL the stops when it comes to getting his kid opportunities. It'll get him everywhere though. The thing about Mario Jr. is that he has the talent to make the opportunities pay off.

Lo.. and Samina.. if he's anything like his dad, he'll be fun as hell to dance with in 10 years. Heck... give him five.

Is Mario Jr. ever billed as "SUPER MARIO"? I know there's another guy from the UK who is called that.

LoL no. Super Mario is a grown, goofy, somewhat odd man. No relation.

He's great, esp considering he's only 13. I sure didn't sense any hesitation or awkwardness.... I would have thought he was a number of years older.

Sorry, I should have been clearer - yes they are different people but there is a Calgary event {broken image removed} coming up on 16 Feb that has "SUPER MARIO" performing. I didn't think it would be THE super mario from the UK, so I thought maybe it was this guy. Time will tell I suppose...

Ah! The link you provided does not show the list of performers. However, a quick search on Google revealed...

Mario Acosta-Cevallos is known in his hometown of Edmonton as Super Mario. He bagan dancing Flamenco with the Pedro Guasp dance group. At the age of 6 he started dancing Ecuadorian Folklore with his mother, and at the age of 10 he started learning salsa with his father. He is now 11 years old and has started to perform Salsa, and he says he loves it.

So, in answer to your original question, it looks like the answer is yes.

* Have I said how much I love :google:

I just joined this board to reply to this post,..so let me introduce myself first.
I am the father of a 13 yr. old dancer. My daughter is also an incredible salsa dancer, as well as ballroom/latin, swing, ballet, jazz, modern, flamenco, tap and hiphop dancer. (...did I forget any).

She is currently studying salsa with a couple of big names out her in So. Cal. and is currently searching for a partner. I stumbled on Mario's clip and sent Mario an email of a clip of my daughter. Mario is an "on2" dancer but asked if my daughter was going to the SF congress in Nov. We will be going if I can get her in on a performance, but otherwise no. She is in an all girls trio with Josie Neglia studio, (she performed this weekend in Palm Springs) and is working with a temp. partner in another salsa group that may also be performing in SF. So...we may be going. Therefore, I have started her "on2" training with Bernard Martinez of DanceSport. (He's great).

If he is truly as gifted as everyone is saying, it will be very exciting for me to see them get togeather, even if for a few days.

...a pic of my daughter with her salsa instructor.

For a clip, visit youtube and search "13 kid salsa" and you will find a clip of her social dancing with Rodrigo Guzman for the first time. (she was nervous).
...I am at work and youtube is blocked.

Many thanks to the original poster for bringing attention to the talents of this young dancer. I hope that the salsa communtity welcomes and embrace my young dancer as well. She trains very hard and could use all the support and encouragement she can get. :)

Let's see if I can post yet.
New member here.....I am not a dancer but I play one on T.V.
Actually, I am a dancer's father. She is a young'un at 13 1/2 yrs. old. We are in So. Cal. but we are hoping to go to the S.F. congress in Nov. to meet Super Mario.
I spoke with him via email and he seems very nice. My daughter is currently taking "on2" privates (Bernard/DanceSport) and should be ready by Nov. She is currently an "on1" and latin dancer. I have only seen his shine on the web and would love to see him with a partner. If anyone has a clip, I would appreciate it.
I will keep this short to see if it posts.
C.
Thankyou

;) I'll talk to Mario and see if he can post a clip of himself with his partner during Salsapalooza. He's turned into an awesome lead. I'll also talk to our mutual teacher and see if she has anything, then I can post some stuff myself. He was in our group choreography this year in Puerto Rico.. that's a fun video. But I don't think it's been posted yet so I'll ask around. Give me a little bit and maybe I can help you!

And yes, Mario is a very sweet guy. I'm sure you'l have a great time with him!

Mario, great to have you on DF. Forget SF...move down her to L.A. and I will set you up with Missy. LOL (Do you remember her?).
She has been a bit disillusioned with salsa and has also been training in b/l .....int. 10 dance. She is working with the best. She is still doing salsa...

...but is hooked on ballroom/latin...and would love to find a suitable partner.
She also does hustle...make it big so you can see it better....some cool tricks toward the end.

Anyway, I would love to see you and Missy get togeather, even if for one dance. (She also dances on2).
