I was just wondering...could anyone out there tell me how to do the Hustle? I'm talking about the line-dance disco hustle, to the "do the hustle" song (I looked it up, the song is by Van McCoy), not the partners swing-type hustle. I know this is a weird question, but for some reason it's really been bothering me that I can't remember....

Welcome to the Forums VeLmA9691! :D

I'm not the person for this question, but I'm sure someone else here will be able to help you out in short order...

Haha, I can't believe I'm even asking this question! The Hustle is not exactly a "serious" dance, and it's certainly not hard to remember...unless you're me  . It's kinda fun though!

VeLmA9691,

The closest thing I can find on a hustle line dance is something done in C&W, but here's the link:

Ahem. To answer your question Velma, I've done a line dance hustle to that song at a few dances, let me see if I can remember how it went. I don't know if this is a standard thing, but this is some of what I learned:

1. Start out facing one way, then spin to the right and then clap, and and then back to the left and then clap.

2. Some swiveling back and forth in place.

3. The finger pointing stuff while going up and down (aka John Travolta)

4. "Kick the ball"

5. Other funky moves with changing your weight, end up facing another direction than where you started.

6. Repeat 1-5 until the song is over or you run screaming due to partial or permanent insanity!

I know this isn't much help...but I don't like to admit that I sort of know how to do this.

Anyone else?

Welcome VeLmA9691! :D I've never done the hustle line dance. I actually kind of ... er .. um .. hate hustle! Just wanted to say welcome and hello. I'll google as well. I think spitfire's link is a good one, and I seem to remember seeing a couple comprehensive hustle web sites. I'll look around, then come back and post.

LOL...I didn't even know that you could dance Hustle as a line dance...but judging from the moves it seems like a lot of the members of my team borrow moves from it to incorporate into their partner Hustle routines...anyway, wish I could help, but up until a few minutes ago I didn't know line Hustle existed!

Yeah, I used to do this as a kid. I only knew the Hustle as a line dance then. It was alot of fun especially when we used to make up moves to add along with it. The steps also changed according what town you were living in so there are many variations. It has different kinds of names now i.e. Electric Side, the Bus Stop, etc. You could easily change the music to "Do the Hustle" and the steps would fit perfectly. Saturday Night Fever features it in one of the club scenes in the movie.

There was another discussion about this back in July 2003. Just thought I would include it for future reference. www.dance-forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=361&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15

VeLmA9691, welcome to the Forum Family!

I did a quick search on "Kick It" an online database full of thousands upon thousands of line dances. Follow the link below for a page of different versions of the "hustle" line dance.

http://kickit.to/ld/Report.php3?PHPSESSID=6d7cdcdd3423d36d6536dd368416 db76&xt=004

From the page above, you can click on any of the dances listed to obtain a step sheet which will outline how to do the dance.

All the best!

Okay, embarrassingly enough, I know it... there were some omissions of some foot work from the previous poster, at least from the movie and in-person version I learned:

Start with the right foot.

Back 2 3 Tap
Forward 2 3 Tap
Back 2 3 Tap
Forward 2 3 Tap
Turn-to-the-right 2 3 Clap
And-to-the-left 2 3 Clap
Turn-to-the-right 2 3 Clap
And-to-the-left 2 3 Clap
Then Kick-Ball-Change, Kick-Ball-Change
Then Forward 2 3 4
Then Disco point for 8 counts.
Roll the hand two beats
Click the heels and flap the chicken wings two beats
(hard part next to describe)
Then, in four beats, with the right foot:
Tap forward, then back, then to your right,
and kick forward while turning left 1/4
(all that last step done with the weight on the left foot)
And repeat...
(You should now be facing 90 degrees to the left)

Should a US Smooth Ballroom Finalist know this dance?

Have you NOT seen Saturday Night Fever!

I guess I'm really starting to show my age around here, although, I am not old enough to have danced this routine while it was En Vogue.
